The pursuit of financial growth and wealth management is a complex endeavor, with a slew of alluring options to consider: day trading for one, appeals to many for its fast-paced profits. So, this week on Wealth Pathways: The Affluence Science Insights Podcast, host Marie Stella consults finance lecturer Dr. Jason Tian on the intricacies of day trading, and how it compares to other approaches to wealth management.
Prior to joining Swinburne University, Dr. Jason Tian worked as a senior economist across various departments and agencies within the Victorian government. His experience and expertise have spanned across areas such as macroeconomics and revenue forecasting, property tax, economic evaluation, and modeling for major state infrastructures, as well as social procurement policies. But prior to that, Dr. Jason Tian spent time as a quantitative analyst at Macquarie Group, looking at issues related to financial market trading, executions, and market qualities.
In this episode, Dr. Jason Tian reveals that a common misconception about wealth management is that it is only for the rich, whereas in reality, it’s more about feeling financially secure. He draws similarities between day trading and playing video games, or purchasing a lottery ticket, where most would aim for big returns over a short period of time. To this, Dr. Jason Tian highlights that day trading tends to be time-consuming and stressful, but can be fulfilling for those with ample amounts of spare time.
Together, Marie and Dr. Jason Tian weigh up other forms of investing and wealth management, from the S&P 500, to property, and even superannuation. So, tune in this week for expert advice on investing and make informed decisions about your wealth!
