Russia began its full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, marking a significant turning point in the Russo-Ukrainian War. To date the invasion has resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths on both sides and has caused Europe's largest refugee crisis since World War II. By the end of May, an estimated 8 million people have been displaced within the country, and as of November 8, 2022, 7.8 million Ukrainians have fled the country. The number of Russians leaving the country increased to its highest level since the October Revolution of 1917 within just five weeks after the invasion. The invasion has also contributed to widespread shortages of food around the world.
Here we’ll examine the Russo-Ukrainian war. Including exploring the background of the conflict, its historical context and the factors that contributed to its outbreak. We’ll also examine the major events and developments that have taken place during the war, including military actions, peace negotiations, and the role of international actors.
In addition to discussing the events of the war itself, we will also examine the impact of the conflict on various stakeholders. This includes exploring the humanitarian crises caused by the war, including displacement and lack of access to basic necessities, as well as the economic and social consequences for Ukraine and Russia. We will also examine the geopolitical implications of the war, including its impact on relations between Russia and Western countries.
Finally, we will address controversies and debates surrounding the war, including different perspectives on its causes and events, criticisms of the actions of the Ukrainian government and military, and differences in opinion on the appropriate response by international actors.
