Each season of A Forgotten History explores a key story from New Zealand's past with fresh perspective on what happened at the time, and the lasting impacts of the moment.
Season 2: Mr Asia
In the 1970s, the Mr Asia drug syndicate was one of the largest sellers of heroin in the world. The group began in New Zealand, with two men at its centre: Marty Johnstone and Terry Clark.
As the syndicate spread around the world, for a few years, they were living the high life. And then, they started killing each other.
Hosted by John Daniell and Noelle McCarthy. Presented by NZ Herald and Bird of Paradise Productions.
Season 1: Tangiwai.
Christmas Eve, 1953. A historic year for New Zealand ended tragically, when 151 people died in the country's worst ever rail disaster. 70 years on, with only a handful of survivors still alive, did New Zealand learn the lessons of this horrific accident - or have we forgotten this tragedy?
Hosted by Hamish Williams. Produced by the Motuihe Group for the New Zealand Herald.
Both seasons made with funding from NZ on Air.

The mysterious death of Brittany Murphy. David Lynch and the real-life brutal murder that inspired Twin Peaks. Steve McQueen’s brush with Charles Manson. The three conspiracies surrounding Marilyn Monroe’s death. The indecent arrest of John Waters. Dennis Hopper’s easy riding and excessive 70s Hollywood. Woody Harrelson’s Dad’s connection to the JFK assassination. The obsessive murder of Dorothy Stratten. Bill Murray’s bust. Chris Farley burning out too soon. Al Pacino’s armed robbery. The serial killer and Gianni Versace. Heath Ledger’s overdose. If it’s a story that meets up at the corner of Hollywood and True Crime, then it’s an episode of HOLLYWOODLAND, the show that explores the lives of our most celebrated actors and actresses through the true crimes that have most impacted them. Hosted and produced by award winning podcaster Jake Brennan, creator of DISGRACELAND, HOLLYWOODLAND is the first true spin-off of DISGRACELAND and is produced similarly with edge-of-your-seat storytelling and gripping, immersive sound design by the folks at Double Elvis. Episodes are roughly 30 minutes long and released every Monday.

How did 9/11 the day become 9/11 the idea? That question drives Pineapple Street Studios and award-winning host Dan Taberski (Missing Richard Simmons, Running From COPS, The Line) to shift the focus to what happened on 9/12, and every day after that. 9/12 is a poignant, surprising, and surprisingly funny seven episode series about people who wake up on 9/12 having to navigate a new, radically altered world. A teenager gets caught up in an out-of-control conspiracy theory that he helped start. A Pakistani business owner finds hundreds of his Brooklyn neighbors are disappearing. Joke-writers at The Onion must figure out just how soon is โtoo soonโ? 9/12 asks what it all means. We know what happened on 9/11. But what happened on 9/12 to alter our memory and our perspective forever?
The series 9/12 earned three Podcast Academy Awards at the 2022 Ambies, including Podcast of the Year.

For more than five years, New Zealand investigative journalist Aaron Smale has been digging into the injustices - and crimes - of the state welfare system of Aotearoa New Zealand. Of all the unbelievable stories he has investigated, none is more shocking than what happened to children and adolescents at Lake Alice Psychiatric Hospital in the 1970s under the supervision of head psychiatrist Selwyn Leeks. This podcast contains descriptions of physical, sexual and psychological abuse perpetrated against children, as well as swearing, and frank discussions about mental health and suicide. Take care when and where you listen.

In 2012, a Tongan man by the name of Tevita Moala came upon the remains of a sunken ship off the coast of Foa, Ha'apai in the Kingdom of Tonga. It was determined that this was the remains of the Port au Prince, a vessel registered to England. How did it get to Tonga and why was it sitting on the bottom of the ocean. This podcast is the fascinating story of the cabin clerk, a young boy by the name of William Mariner, one of the survivors of the Port au Prince who lived in Tonga from 1806 to 1810.
