  • What makes you a heretic? Journalist Andrew Gold believes that, in an age of group-think and tribes, we need heretics - those who use unconventional wisdom to speak out against their own groups, from cancelled comedians and radical feminists to cult defectors and vigilantes hunting deviants.
Learn from my guests how to rebel, think differently and resist social contagion. From Triggernometry's Francis Foster and the world's most cancelled man Graham Linehan to Robbie Williams and gender critical atheist Richard Dawkins. These are the people living with the weight of their own community's disappointment on their shoulders.

  • A podcast about men who fought in World War Two whose stories are told by their sons.

In each episode Matthew Collins interviews a vet's son and explores the effects of the war - not only on the father who fought in it but also on the son born after it.

Matthew Collins has long known that part of his consciousness was shaped by his father's war.

But like most vets, his father rarely talked about it. And when he did, he usually preferred to tell silly stories - rather than discuss seriously what he'd seen and done.

But the father's experience seeped into the son's consciousness - often extremely annoyingly.

So, Matthew wanted to compare notes with other vets' sons.

He's now recorded funny, tragic and moving stories told by men from all over the UK about their fathers' wars. And he's recorded reflections on the personal, inter-generational consequences of the Second World War.

The series will be launched in April 2025. A trailer is now available.

more info: www.matthewcollins.com (from 17 April).

There are many World War Two Vets' sons out there - with many great father/son reflections to share. If you would like to support this podcast, you can help by contributing to the cost of making it by going to: https://www.patreon.com/wesonsofworldwartwovets

  • “Not All Propaganda is Art” unravels the gripping tale of three iconic writers—Richard Wright, Dwight Macdonald, and Kenneth Tynan—who became entangled in the covert battles of the Cultural Cold War in the late 1950s. As the boundaries between art and influence blurred, these pivotal figures served as both collaborators and targets of American, British, and French security agencies, ensnared in a high-stakes propaganda war over fiercely contested ideas such as the critique of mass culture and the power of politically engaged art—debates that still resonate.

  • 250 years after her birth, Jane Austen remains a giant in the cultural zeitgeist. Her works have been adapted hundreds of times over multiple mediums, and she remains one of the most popular writers in the English language. Yet little is known about Jane Austen the person. The majority of her letters were likely destroyed, leaving us only 161. In the absence of her own direct testimony, where do we find the real Jane Austen? In her books? In her family and friends? In the “world” of Jane Austen or in the many iterations of her life and afterlife?

Finding Jane Austen is a scripted podcast that seeks to uncover the historical Jane Austen. This podcast will introduce both seasoned Janeites and new readers to the life and works of Jane Austen through accessible scripted programming and interviews with top Austen scholars to recreate Jane Austen’s life and world.
