Buddhist teachers often talk about attachment as the root of our suffering. We’re supposed to practise detachment. But maybe ‘attachment’ is the wrong word to use here because in modern psychology, attachment relationships are seen as being healthy. Maybe the words ‘clinging’ or ‘reactivity’ are more helpful words for describing a habit that causes us endless stress and misery.
