    Xanet Pailet is the best-selling author of Living an Orgasmic Life. Xanet is a recovered NYC health care lawyer who lived in a sexless marriage for over two decades. After experiencing her own sexual healing and awakening in 2011, she transitioned her career into a full-time sex and intimacy educator and coach.

    Xanet believes that pleasure is our birthright and she is passionate about helping women and men find their way back into their bodies, their desires, and their pleasure. Xanet works with couples who are in sexless marriages and women who have experienced abuse and trauma. She helps them heal their wounds, release their shame, and reconnect with their sexuality.

  • Welcome to episode 154 of the Sexology Podcast! Today I’m delighted to welcome Amy C. Moors, Ph.D to the podcast. In this episode, Amy speaks with me about consensual non-monogamy, looking at the quality of attachment, and recommendations for how to deal with minority stress.

    Amy C. Moors, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Chapman University and a Research Fellow at The Kinsey Institute, Indiana University. She also serves as the co-chair of the American Psychological Association’s Division 44 Consensual Non-Monogamy Task Force. Prior to joining Chapman, she was the Director of the Social Science Research and Evaluation Program in the College of Engineering at Purdue University. She is an interdisciplinary researcher with backgrounds in psychology and women’s studies (Ph.D., University of Michigan), higher education (postdoctoral fellow, National Center for Institutional Diversity) and social science evaluation (researcher, University of Michigan's ADVANCE Program).

    Dr. Moors’s research interests lie at the intersection of gender, sexuality, interpersonal relationships, and inclusion. In one area of research she focuses on diverse expressions of sexuality, including same-sex/gender relationships and consensually non-monogamous relationships. In another line of research, she focuses on ways to promote inclusion in higher education. She has published more than 40 articles and has received several grants to fund her work. Recently, Dr. Moors was recognized as a “Rising Star” by the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality.

  • Welcome to episode 156 of the Sexology Podcast! Today I’m delighted to welcome Dr. JoAnna Nguyen to the podcast. In this episode Dr. Nguyen speaks to me about labia surgery, why people have the surgery, how common it is and looking at the process of the surgery.

    Dr. JoAnna Nguyen is a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon in Los Angeles, California, with expertise in all fields of plastic surgery, including aesthetic, reconstructive, pediatric, hand, and burn surgery. She has a particular interest in aesthetic surgery of the eyes and face, breast surgery and labiaplasty. Dr. Nguyen is also passionate about skincare and has extensive experience with non-surgical treatments such as lasers, peels, and topical treatments.

    Dr. Nguyen was born and raised in beautiful Southern California. Spoiled by the perennial sunny weather in Huntington Beach, her curiosity for the seasons led her to the the East Coast, where she attended Boston University. There she graduated Summa Cum Laude with dual degrees in Psychology and Biology with a Specialization in Neuroscience. After volunteering with a non-profit organization that provides plastic surgery to children in need, Dr. Nguyen’s interest in plastic surgery was ignited.

    Having experienced her fair share of Boston weather, Dr. Nguyen was drawn to the sunshine of Miami where she received her Doctorate in Medicine (M.D) from the Univeristy of Miami Miller School of Medicine. She returned home to Southern California to complete a one year clinical research fellowship in reconstructive plastic surgery at the University of Southern California. During that year, she was the driving force behind 23 research projects, presented at numerous national meetings, and published over 11 manuscripts.

    She then went on to complete six years of formal plastic and reconstructive surgical training at the prestigious plastic and reconstructive surgery program at USC. During her training, Dr. Nguyen operated at premier hospitals on the west coast, including Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and USC Keck Medical Center. Dr. Nguyen lives with her husband and daughter in Los Angeles and in her free time, she enjoys exercising, cooking, listening to music, and traveling.

    Dr. Molly Winterrowd is an advocate in providing affirmative care, is dedicated to creating a safe space where individuals and partners experiencing challenges with their sexuality or gender are able to explore these aspects openly and honestly with care and compassion. Dr. Winterrowd believes that individuals are courageously vulnerable in therapy, and it is a privilege to be trusted to explore others’ deepest needs.     Currently, Dr. Winterrowd is a Postdoctoral Fellow in Human Sexuality at the Center for Sexual and Reproductive Health and is devoted to helping clients to overcome sexual and relationship challenges by improving the connection with partners, enhancing relational intimacy by focusing on desires, and identifying new ways in which to bond that fulfill each person’s needs. Dr. Winterrowd helps individuals navigate the physical and emotional process encountered by sexual pain challenges, erectile dysfunction, or struggling with out of control sexual behaviors that are causing emotional pain and difficulties in their relationships. Dr. Winterrowd received her Bachelors of Arts Degree in Psychology and Comparative Sociology from University of Puget Sound, her Master of Arts Degree in Clinical Psychology from George Fox University, and Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology from George Fox University.

  • Welcome to episode 162 of the Sexology Podcast! Today it’s my pleasure to welcome Amir Mohebbi to the podcast. In this episode Amir speaks with me about Sexsomnia, the behavioral patterns around this issue and what treatment can look like.

    Amir Mohebbi is a proud Iranian-American currently completing his psychiatry residency at St. Louis University. He trained under mentorship from world-renowned forensic psychiatrists, Drs. William J. Newman and Brian J. Holoyda, whom co=authored a review related to his interests in sleep medicine and forensics entitled “Sexsomnia as a Defense in Repeated Sex Crimes”.

    Amir presented his work alongside an expert panel consisting of forensic psychiatrists at the American Psychiatric Association 175th Annual Meeting in San Francisco, CA. In 2020, he will join a panel consisting of sleep medicine experts at the SLEEP 2020 conference hosted by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and the Sleep Research Society in Philadelphia, PA. He earned his medical degree from St. Louis University and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of California, Irvine.

She also served as a venture partner at 500 Startups, a global venture capital fund, where she worked with hundreds of startup companies.

    Andrea was raised in a religious, conservative Filipino family that only taught abstinence and she only had fear-based sex education in public schools. Seeking support and information, Barrica could not find reliable resources and experienced harassment online. Determined that no one else should have to struggle like she did, Barrica launched O.school in 2017 to change the way people learn about sexuality.

    Stephen Snyder MD — sex therapist, relationship therapist, and sexual medicine specialist — has dedicated his entire career to helping individuals and couples with sex and relationship concerns. Over 30+ years, he’s helped over 1,500 individuals and couples regain closeness and satisfaction in their relationships.

    Dr. Snyder is Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City and the author of one of the most acclaimed sex and relationship books of our time, LOVE WORTH MAKING: How to Have Ridiculously Great Sex in a Long-Lasting Relationship (St Martin’s Press, 2018).

    As an MD sex therapist, Dr. Snyder has a unique combination of skills that enables him to handle the most complex, difficult situations. He received his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco (M.D. 1983), trained in internal medicine at Mt Zion Medical Center in San Francisco (1983-84), then in psychiatry at the Payne Whitney Clinic, New York Hospital / Cornell University Medical Center (1984-87) and as a Fellow in Behavioral Medicine at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in NYC (1987-89).

    Dr. Snyder was Director of the Psychiatric Consultation Service at Mount Sinai Medical Center from 1990-2000. Since 2000, he has been in full-time private practice in Manhattan, specializing in sex and relationship concerns.

    Dr. Snyder is an active member of the Society for Sex Therapy and Research (SSTAR); has been a presenter, workshop leader, and discussant at the Society’s national meetings; and has served on its Professional Book Award Committee and as Chairman of its Consumer Book Award committee.

    Dr. Stephen Diamond is a licensed clinical and forensic psychologist practicing in Los Angeles, CA. A former pupil and protégé of existential psychoanalyst Rollo May, he is the author of Anger, Madness, and the Daimonic: The Psychological Genesis of Violence, Evil, and Creativity (State University of New York Press, 1996). Dr. Diamond has contributed chapters to the bestselling anthology Meeting the Shadow: The Hidden Power of the Dark Side of Human Nature (1990), Spirituality and Psychological Health (2005), the Encyclopedia of Psychology and Religion (2009), Writing Music (2018), a chapter titled "Existential Therapy: Confronting Life's Ultimate Concerns" to the textbook Contemporary Theory and Practice in Counseling and Psychotherapy (SAGE, 2015), and, most recently, a chapter titled “Existential Explorations of Psychopathy” for a forthcoming forensic psychology text.

    His writing has also appeared in various professional journals such as the San Francisco Jung Institute Library Journal, Psychological Perspectives, the Journal of Applied Psychoanalytic Studies, PsycCRITIQUES, Existential Analysis, and Dasein, and he has lectured and taught at diverse institutions including Pacific Graduate School of Psychology (Palo Alto University), J.F.K. University, Argosy University, the C.G. Jung Institute-Zurich, Ryokan College, Loyola Marymount University, and the Existential Academy in London.

    Dr. Diamond appears frequently as a guest expert in made-for-television documentaries about high-profile criminal cases. Presently, he authors a long-running blog titled “Evil Deeds” for Psychology Today, serves on the editorial board of JHP, and maintains a private psychotherapy practice. He is a contracted provider of psychotherapy for Kaiser Permanente Medical Group, and is also currently employed as a Consulting Psychologist for a private subacute psychiatric hospital in Sylmar, CA.
