LIVE at 9pm 'fan fave' Chloe Swarbrick joins us to talk the year in politics which on many levels was a tough one for the Greens, what's to come in 2025 and maybe specifically what happened today when Nicola Willis opened the books at HYEFUOnce we have chatted with Chloe, CTU economist Craig Renney joins us to talk specifically HYEFU and what the books show, along with what it means for NZ moving forwardThe government's books are set to remain deeply in the red for the near term as a big dent in the tax take and higher expenses deliver continued budget deficits. Under the new measure the deficits for the next three years would rise less than forecast in the May budget and see a surplus posted in 2027/28. Using the established measure the deficits would rise more than expected in the budget and a surplus was not expected in the forecast period to 2028/29.=================================Come support the work we're doing by becoming a Patron of #BHN www.patreon.com/BigHairyNews=================================Merch available at www.BHNShop.nz Like us on Facebookwww.facebook.com/BigHairyNews Follow us on Twitter.@patbrittenden @Chewie_NZFollow us on BlueskyPat @patbrittenden.bsky.socialChewie @chewienz.bsky.socialEmily @iamprettyawesome.bsky.socialMagenta @xkaosmagex.bsky.social

In our last week of live shows for this year, fan favourite Kieran McAnulty joins us LIVE at 9pm to look back on the year, maybe find a highlight, and see where to from here for the oppositionMore bad news for #NickyNoBoats as we learn today from a 3News exclusive that the government has received official advice that one of our current ferries will not be useable up until the 2029 deadline the government has said that the new (unknown, not purchased and not identified) ferries will get to NZ. In fact one of the ferries, due to wharf redevelopment, will only be able to be used until the end of next year...four years earlier than their announced lifespan.Another broken promise from this government who said pre-election that they would provide 10,000 public EV chargers by 2030...but now "Prime Minister Christopher Luxon’s Government has so far delivered less than half the cash and chargers" that they need to to stay on track for the 10,000 target=================================Come support the work we're doing by becoming a Patron of #BHN www.patreon.com/BigHairyNews=================================Merch available at www.BHNShop.nz Like us on Facebookwww.facebook.com/BigHairyNews Follow us on Twitter.@patbrittenden @Chewie_NZFollow us on BlueskyPat @patbrittenden.bsky.socialChewie @chewienz.bsky.socialEmily @iamprettyawesome.bsky.socialMagenta @xkaosmagex.bsky.social

Cross-cultural and Bilingual Consultant Melanie Nelson joins us to talk about, what she says is "the overshadowed bill poised to rewrite New Zealand’s legal system" Much has been said about the significant impacts of the Treaty Principles Bill (TPB) on te Tiriti and Māori rights. Far less is known about its unrecognised effects on all New Zealanders, which extend well beyond the Treaty....from https://melanienelson.substack.com/p/the-overshadowed-bill-poised-to-rewrite?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android&r=2o42y&triedRedirect=trueThe Government has ordered a review of ACC and has confirmed the earners and business levy and those paid by motor vehicle owners are increasing with EVs increasing far more than petrol driven cars making it even less attractive to purchase zero emission vehiclesDavid Seymour is being told to pull his head in by Christopher Luxon as he continues to speak out about the options for ferries which are none of the options that this government says it's going down. Is that true, or is Seymour saying the quiet part out loud and the PM wants him to stop? The Government is again running from an election promise of lowering bowel cancer screening with current pilots ending or about to end. This, in particular, is impact Maori and Pacificia people.=================================Come support the work we're doing by becoming a Patron of #BHN www.patreon.com/BigHairyNews=================================Merch available at www.BHNShop.nz Like us on Facebookwww.facebook.com/BigHairyNews Follow us on Twitter.@patbrittenden @Chewie_NZFollow us on BlueskyPat @patbrittenden.bsky.socialChewie @chewienz.bsky.socialEmily @iamprettyawesome.bsky.socialMagenta @xkaosmagex.bsky.social

In her first NZ interview, Rose Wang shares what's happening day to day in the Bluesky office.Christopher Luxon spoke with Stuff/Three News on Friday in a sit down interview where he wouldn't commit to keeping military style weapons out of the hands of NZers, says the negotiation with ACT over the Treaty Principles Bill could not have been negotiated any better and that Military academies are not going to lead to abuse and even being asked that is offensive.TVNZ's last poll of the year...we'll lower our standards tonight just to see what's happening in the polls and in a word it's te Pati Māori riding high.EV sales drop. Christopher Luxon finally appeared on Q&A over the weekend and we saw his usual behaviour of blaming Labour, not answering questions and CEO speak.
