This podcast is for all types of wine lovers. It features informal conversations with wine makers, wine bar owners, importers, sommeliers; you name it. Hosted by a former radio journalist turned wine nerd, who has been blogging at State of the Vine for the last few years. Lauren has her WSET Level 2 certification, but the most important thing is she's curious and loves to make wine fun for people to learn about, while learning herself! Grab a glass of your favorite wine and join her to learn about wine and interesting stories surrounding wine. Cheers!

Tragedy has been around for over 2500 years, from its earliest manifestations in the huge open-air gathering-places of Athens and other Greek city-states, to the theatres of Renaissance England, Spain and France, right through to the twentieth century with its cinematic tragedies, and the disturbing works of Harold Pinter and Samuel Beckett. In four dialogues, Oliver Taplin, Emeritus Professor, and Joshua Billings, a graduate student in the Oxford Classics Faculty, ask and discuss what tragedy is, what tragedy does for people, whether tragedy teaches, and if tragedy is still alive today.

In four short dialogues, Oliver Taplin, Emeritus Professor in the Oxford University Classics Department and Lorna Hardwick, Professor of Classical Studies and Director of the Classical Receptions in Late Twentieth Century Drama and Poetry in English project, discuss the issues surrounding the translation of Ancient Greek and Roman texts for modern audiences. Looking into the technical, philosophical and literary aspects of this, they centre their discussions around four topics: Is there a core to translation? Is there ever a faithful translation? Can Poetry be Translated? And who translates and for whom?

The discipline of Comparative Literature is changing. Its Eurocentric heritage has been challenged by various formulations of ‘world literature’, while new media and new forms of artistic production are bringing urgency to comparative thinking across literature, film, the visual arts and music. The resulting questions of method are both intellectually compelling and central to the future of the humanities. To confront them, our research programme brings together experts from the disciplines of English, Medieval and Modern Languages, Oriental Studies, and Classics, and draws in collaborators from Music, Visual Art, Film, Philosophy and History.

The principal tenets of the movement known as Romanticism first began in Germany and England, with the former pioneering the moral and philosophical beliefs and the latter producing the first Romantic artists and poets. This album concentrates on the development and spread of Romanticism in mainland Europe, analysing in clear, concise terms the metaphysical questions and beliefs that engendered the movement, along with the cultural and historical contexts that encouraged its development. The album also explores how Romanticism spread and was adopted in other countries, concentrating on how intellectual progress was often hindered by societal pressures and prejudices. This material forms part of The Open University course A207 From Enlightenment to Romanticism c.1780-1830.
