Too stressed to sleep? Perhaps a weird scandalous fairytale, some calm narration, and 96 forbidden kisses will help? This is a soft-spoken narration of Hans Christian Andersen's fairytale "The Swineherd." This calm sleep story is is read in a soft voice and set to some light and soft background music. I do hope you enjoy the this evening's fairytale bedtime story!
How many kisses is too many? 96? The Scandal! Join me as I softly read this classic Hans Christian Andersen fairytale "The Swineherd." Look. It's weird. Of course.
âHe will have a hundred kisses from the Princess!â said the lady who had been to ask.
âI think he is not in his right senses!â said the Princess, and walked on, but when she had gone a little way, she stopped again. âOne must encourage art,â said she, âI am the Emperor's daughter. Tell him he shall, as on yesterday, have ten kisses from me, and may take the rest from the ladies of the court.â
âOhâbut we should not like that at all!â said they. âWhat are you muttering?â asked the Princess. âIf I can kiss him, surely you can. Remember that you owe everything to me.â So the ladies were obliged to go to him again.
âA hundred kisses from the Princess,â said he, âor else let everyone keep his own!â
âStand round!â said she; and all the ladies stood round her whilst the kissing was going on.
âWhat can be the reason for such a crowd close by the pigsty?â said the Emperor, who happened just then to step out on the balcony; he rubbed his eyes, and put on his spectacles. âThey are the ladies of the court; I must go down and see what they are about!â So he pulled up his slippers at the heel, for he had trodden them down.
As soon as he had got into the court-yard, he moved very softly, and the ladies were so much engrossed with counting the kisses, that all might go on fairly, that they did not perceive the Emperor. He rose on his tiptoes...

Instead of accept this fate, the tricky queen has a plan to not only see her son again, but maybe get rescued, too! It's not the best plan and it leaves a lot to chance, but what are you going to do? Good Evening Friends, Fiends, and Night Owl Supremes! Got a lot on your mind lately? Let's... try to calm it with this lonely, wistful, and slightly chilling short Poe story. I suppose it's not lonely as we are in it together, but the same cannot be said for the Woman who sat for this particular portrait. She sat, so close, yet so far, from her love, and though he looked at her for hours, days, weeks... he never saw her. A true tragedy! Is his masterpiece painting haunted? Does her ghost or spirit linger between worlds? This short ghost story, "The Oval Portrait" by Edgar Allan Poe, is read in a soft voice and set to some eerie and soft background music. I do hope you enjoy the this evening's spookier short story!

Good evening friends, fiends, and ghostly night owl supremes! Welcome back for the ghost story behind "The Haunting of Bly Manor" - "The Turn of the Screw" Part 8 (Chapters 21 and 22!) Tonight Mrs. Grose reveals that she, ALL ALONG, had proof of Miss Jesselâs interfering with Flora. THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN SUPER HELPFUL THIS WHOLE TIME!? Anyway, the governess decides that the best thing to do would be to get Flora out of Bly and to her uncle in London. She worries the letter she sent will arrive before them, but then Mrs. Grose also tells her that the letter was never sent, because she things Miles stole it. Wow. Who would have guessed?! Governess just kinda left it out on a table and ran off. Sheesh. Flora and Mrs. Grose head out for London the following morning, leaving Miles and the governess alone for a very silent and awkward dinner. Her comparison is really an odd one? She likens it to a newly wed couple taking meals at an inn on their honeymoon or something like that. Like, either party is too embarrassed to talk to the other in front of the attendants? Anyway, we left off Just as she and Miles were about to have the whole thing out! Good evening, friends, fiends, and night owl supremes! Let's get (more) ghosty! Follow my voice once again into the dreaded Bly Manor, for this spooky calm reading of Henry James' "The Turn of the Screw!" (Part 7!)
Welcome back for the ghost story behind "The Haunting of Bly Manor" - "The Turn of the Screw" Part 7 (Chapters 18, 19, and 20!) Tonight, Miles (with Peter Quint) successfully distract the governess from watching little Flora (and, of course Miss Jessel). How? He plays such a compelling piece on the piano that she loses herself and dozes off for a bit. By the time the governess comes to herself, she realizes she has lost track of Flora and KNOWS she is up to something with Miss Jessel. She rushes off to brief Mrs. Grose, and the two of them search everywhere for the little miss, finally going to the Bly Pond. They donât see the boat, and the governess is convinced that Miss Jessel told Flora to hide it to cover her tracks. Her hunch proves right. After a âreally longâ 10 minute walk around the pond (heaven forbid), the governess and Mrs. Gross catch Flora. Miss Jessel is there plain as day to both women⊠until she isnât? Mrs. Gross, overcome by something, rushes to Flora and acts as though nothing is the matter! Flora says some nasty words to the governess, and asks to have her belongings removed from her room. This absolutely breaks the governess, and something MUST be done! This tale, Henry James' "The Turn of the Screw," is read in a soft voice and set to some light and eerie background music. I do hope you enjoy this evening's ghost story!
Tonight's Story Behind Bly Manor Part 7 is from the following chapters:
The Turn of the Screw, Chapter 18: 2:04

What's in a name? Only the wrath of the most ruthless of fairies, it turns out! Join me for tonight's fairy tale storytelling of "Fairer-than-a-Fairy!" Oh, it's a wonderful twist a many parts of the "Sleeping Beauty" type tale, so let's go!
Can't sleep? How about envisioning yourself in a magic castle in nestled in a forest nook, gently swaying on the breeze. Right! Because it's suspended on silver chains from the tallest of trees. Of course! BUT the most luxurious part of the whole thing is the cushy swing suspended INSIDE the suspended castle, rocking Prince Rainbow deeper and deeper into his enchanted sleep. Nice twist, right? Join me for tonight's travails among the sun, moon, and even the stars! We follow one girl, unfortunately named "Fairer than a Fairy" by her grateful and doting father, the King. She gets kidnapped by the evil fairy, Lagree, who keeps her in a castle with only two chores: Keep the magical fire lit, and guard Lagree's own remaining eye and tooth. Fun! It is here that Fairer-than-a-Fairy meets the sonically attractive "Prince Rainbow" - named so because that is the only way he can appear to her! Long and short of it, Fairer and Rainbow fall deeply in love after years of conversation. Unfortunately, his time is running out, and he is taken away, but not before askingFairer to marry him. She then sets off on a quest to save him - crossing the dangerous Locrinos, (er... really his nice wife?) three fairy sisters who each bestow gifts, and to the most curious palace ever seen. All ends well - turns out Prince Rainbow... King Rainbow... is a VERY important person, after all! This tale, "Fairer than a Fairy," is from Andrew Lang's "Yellow Fairy Book" and is read in a soft voice and set to some light and soft background music. I do hope you enjoy the this evening's fairer fairytale!

Later, she tells Mrs. Grose all about the encounter, and both women decide that yes, they have to write to the Flora and Mile's uncle in Harley Street, and get hime to come to Bly and sort the ghostly mess out. The governess tries to start the letter, but goes and hovers outside of Mileâs bedroom instead. She and he talk more openly about all the creepiness, but not really? Itâs still cat and mouse. She threatens that she is writing the uncle, and Miles is like âgood. It's about time you saw to my education.â She then admits that she wants to help him fight whatever it is that is troubling him so (it's the ghost of Peter Quint!), but then Miles screams, it gets really windy (even though the window is closed), and the candle goes out. Miles creepily says it was him who did it, but he adds a âdear,â so we kinda think itâs not HIM speaking anymoreâŠTonight is Part 6, or chapters 15, 16, and 17, of this long, old ghost story, and things are taking a turn for the spookier! Good evening friends, fiends, and night owl supremes! Welcome back for more of the Story behind "The Haunting of Bly Manor" - "The Turn of the Screw" Part 5 (Chapters 12, 13, and 14!) the governess was falling deeper and deeper into her obsession with finding out what was happening at Bly, trying to puzzle out how to solve it, and at the same time trying NOT to let the children know that she knew. Again. Yes, more of that song and dance. Mrs. Grose suggests the governess write to the childrenâs Uncle in Harley street, but both decide that course of action unwise. There is a lull where the governess looks for specters around every corner, and sees nothing, although she knows the whole time Miss Jessel and Peter Quint are always appearing and interacting with Flora and Miles. She feels like she canât say anything to tip her hand still. STILL. Anyway, on the way to church, Miles starts acting⊠odd. Too smooth for a little kid. I cried. I wept. I LOVED this fairytale! Prepare to be swept away in this achingly heartbreaking tale of a little ancient tree who found her voice very late in long life. Let's emote with a tree!
Tonight's tale is one of late-blooming. Of singing, sadness, and sorrow all in the body of one tree from the beginning of the world. It's also a heartbreakingly beautiful love story, between the North Wind and the Littlest Tree. One that spans centuries, and songs and lifetimes. This tale, from the Green Forest Fairy Book: "The Little Tree that Never Grew Up," is read in a soft voice and set to some light and soft background music. FINALLY things are starting to get more actively spooky! The governess has a super late night encounter with the dreaded Peter Quint - this time on the stairs in the small hours of the morning. Little Flora has started acting strange - staring out of her bedroom window. When the governess catches her at this a second time, she also sees little Miles outside on the grounds, staring at something above the governess. She rushes him inside and wants to get the truth at last out of him as to what has been going on, but he lies, says it was all a joke. SHE doesn't want them to know she knows what they know, and accepts this. Why, I donât know? Something about not falling into traps? Does that matter when there are supernatural malevolent forces about, really? Ah, whatever. Tonight is Part 5, or chapters 12, 13, and 14, so weâll hopefully encounter many more ghostly things that go bump in the night! Mwahahaha. This tale, Henry James' "The Turn of the Screw," is read in a soft voice and set to some light and eerie background music. I do hope you enjoy this evening's ghost story story!
Tonight's Story Behind Bly Manor Part 4 is from the following chapters:
The Turn of the Screw, Chapter 9: 1:33
