I am honoured to be joined on today's episode with my great friend Barnabas, who lead me to the top of Mt Kilimanjaro in Africa, with his team of Porters. The Mount Kilimanjaro porters are a dedicated team of men and women whose job it is to help tourists carry their gear while hiking Kilimanjaro. Most of the porters are local men between the ages of 18 and 40. They are hired alongside a team of trained professionals.he porter’s main job is to carry all the equipment required for the whole team. This includes not only personal equipment for each guest, but also tents, sleeping bags, food, oxygen bottles, medical kits, stretchers, hyperbaric chambers, toilets, and any garbage that’s generated along the way.
Once they reach camp, it’s time to set up. This includes putting up the portable toilet, your tents, and sometimes also the sleeping bags and inflatable pads.
The porters are also responsible for sanitizing all the water that’s used for cooking, cleaning, and drinking. They also help the cook prepare and serve the food, and clean the dishes afterward.
As you get higher and higher up the mountain, the porters will cheer you on and just generally have your back – giving you positive encouragement along the way. Altitude takes a crazy toll on our bodies, and you may find yourself relying on one or more of the porters to do everything you’re not able to do – from tying a shoelace to quickly repairing a boot. Essentially, the porters make it possible for you to climb Kilimanjaro.

Gym + Coffee is one of Ireland’s fastest growing lifestyle brands. Founded in 2017 by a team of friends with backgrounds in media, marketing and retail and a shared passion for combining fitness and community, the brand began with a core collection of hoodies.
It has since expanded into a fully-fledged activewear collection for men and women and, as well as its international e-stores, now has physical retail stores in Ireland as well as in strategic locations throughout the UK. It has also recently opened a UK warehouse to complement a facility in Belgium, to meet with growing demand.
The brand has recently secured a €17m investment to fuel further growth, particularly in retail stores. One of Ireland’s best known musicians, Niall Horan who shot to fame initially as a member of One Direction, is also a backer.

Just two years before winning the Joe McDonagh Cup final, Antrim Hurler Domhnall Nugent had been on the streets battling an addiction to alcohol.
Domhnall was just 20 years old and living out of a rucksack, having spent every penny he had on the addiction that had brought him to rock bottom, where he was left to feel that his life was no longer worth living. After realising the devastation that his addiction was causing to his loved ones, Domhnall decided to turn his life around and checked himself into a rehab facility.
Life came full circle when he began a new role as an addiction facilitator at Cuan Mhuire, three years after walking through those same doors at his lowest ebb. And then there’s Let’s Face It.What started out as a shot to nothing podcast has evolved into something much more meaningful, to him and to those who have benefitted from conversations with guests from all walks of life.
Talking saved him, and he believes it can do the same for others.

Kevin Penrose is probably better known online as the Wild Irish Wanderer. A few years ago he decided to take his love for travel and hiking to a new level, a move that has changed his life and career- though he never expected it would reach so many people.
But there is much more to Kevin's story than we know. Kevin has carried a heavy weight on his shoulders all of his life. A much harder challenge to face than any mountain he ever climbed. Kevin was afraid to admit he was gay.
He was worried he would be met with ridicule, and feared the stigma of being a gay man in Ireland would result in loss his team mates in GAA, and much more.
Kevin's story is powerful and it will help so many.

Nick first, he left home at 16 to try and build a career as a performer.....he did almost every job possible as part of that journey but then did become a performer on London's West End stage starring in musicals including Book of Mormon, Cats, Fame, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, Peter Pan, and Wicked. However, during the pandemic he also took a supermarket job to make ends meet, and during that time, he started experimenting with drag....and very quickly ended up appearing on RuPaul's Drag Race UK as Ella Vaday where he finished as runner up. So Nick's all about perserverance, and not being afraid to try new things. Personally, his mum has twice had cancer which has had a big impact on him, she's recovering now for a second time and he is doing a 100km CoppaFeel trek in June to raise money and awareness of breast cancer.
