  • 🎙️ Welcome to Season 2, Episode 1!

We're kicking off the new season with an eye-opening conversation featuring the brilliant Fabienne Vailes! Fabienne joins us to chat about her recent ADHD diagnosis and how she’s reframing the entire experience – not as a label, but as a tool for self-growth and understanding.

    ✨ Key Discussion Points:

Redefining ADHD Diagnosis: Fabienne shares how an ADHD diagnosis doesn’t have to be limiting. Instead, it’s a way to better understand ourselves, especially as women who’ve been navigating life without knowing about our neurodivergence.

ADHD and Flow: We talk about Fabienne’s preferred term, "ADHF" (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Flow), and how thinking of ADHD as a flow rather than a disorder brings a positive shift in perspective.

Balancing Highs and Lows: From the exhilarating highs of ADHD to the darker moments, Fabienne opens up about the emotional rollercoaster and how she’s learned to manage those shifts with mindfulness, self-compassion, and tools she’s picked up along the way.

Navigating Perimenopause and ADHD: Fabienne shares her personal journey of experiencing perimenopause and how it amplified some of her ADHD symptoms, prompting her to seek a diagnosis later in life.

Pathologizing vs. Flourishing: We dive into Fabienne’s research on flourishing and how she questions the need to pathologize neurodivergent brains in systems designed for neurotypicals. What if we embraced ADHD as a different way of thriving?

Self-Care and Ecological Self: Fabienne talks about the importance of self-care and how we need to nurture our “ecological self” to be the best versions of ourselves, for both us and those we love.

The Power of Being: We reflect on how ADHD women often fall into the trap of doing instead of being. Fabienne encourages us to embrace the art of "being" and allow space for growth, rather than constant productivity.

  • Lots to dig into this episode with the fascinating and friendly ADHD coach Ange Nennie.

🐝 Ange shares some of her personal ADHD journey including her diagnosis, how she has adjusted to medication, and when she uses it. She has a great reframe on diagnosis which is “diagnoses can change the question from what is wrong with me to how do I cope with this?”

We spend some time discussing ADHD in general, ADHD and peri-menopause, and transition times when there is often a diagnosis.

🐝 Ange brings clarity to the differences between regular coaching vs. ADHD coaching, and ADHD coaching vs. therapy.

We go deep into ADHD coaching with Ange. It is person-based—the aim is to craft a solution that works for the individual. It is also practical and future-focused, with an emphasis on planning the actions a client has decided to take to support success. She also mentions the four pillars of success and her strengths-based approach to coaching.

🐝 In addition, Ange is part of a local ADHD Professional Group which meets quarterly with speakers, panels, and case studies to keep professionals up to date with what is happening in the ADHD space.

We also discuss how important it is to find your tribe. Ange highlights the value of connecting with others who share similar experiences, bringing validation and acceptance into our lives.

👉 What is your body telling you it needs right now?📌We hope you will join us if you are looking for support and community. Please email Leonie "Ruth" or Rachael if you have discovered you have ADHD/ADD as an adult woman and want to share your story.

🐝In our conversation, the importance of forgiveness comes up. Ruth shares the definition she hasfound most helpful ‘Forgiveness is accepting that you can’t have a different past’.🐝Which leads to a conversion on the importance of accepting ourselves and our past and loving whowe are.

🐝Rachael shares a very personal reflection about forgiving herself.

🐝Ruth attempts to share a pearl of wisdom but gets lost in the context setting, loses her train ofthought, and the pearl forever remains undisclosed…

  • Today’s episode is honest and heartwarming. Phoebe Anderson has great resilience, intelligence, determination and a sweetness which the world needs more of.

🐝Phoebe is turning 21 and is at the beginning of her ADHD understanding. She has a referral and isbooked in for her first appointment with a psychiatrist (in what is quite a lengthy diagnosis processin Australia).

🐝We discuss task paralysis and procrastination. Until recently, her “to start the task is where it ends,” and “will it ever get better?” Self-reflection led to a deeper understanding of herself and her ADHD tendencies. These insights gave her some useful strategies to cope with these two huge productivity disruptors.

🐝She speaks openly about the challenges she faced studying at university and her desire to reach her fullpotential and flourish. We discuss how ADHD/ADD women tend to feel like they aren’t “reaching their potential.”

🐝And how “body doubling” helps some ADHD-ers get more done when they have someone else in the room with them.

🐝She also shares thoughts, excitement, and hope around the next steps. She is open to the possibility of medication in conjunction with other support and coping strategies to ease the strain she has been feeling.

💡Phoebe speaks to people who are struggling about the importance of being seen and heard. She gives an example of the joy and relief which came from being in a space which was held for her so that she could express the pain of “it is so hard.”

😊And the positive side of her ADHD brain? The unique perspective she brings to a situation and herextraordinary attention to detail in emotional intelligence.

We know you will enjoy this episode.

  • In this episode, Ruth and Rachael take a personal look at one of the well-known traits of ADHD/ADD, Task Paralysis.

Our conversation unfolds in true ADHD fashion. It meanders through challenges we face and how we adjust, cope, and manage these traits to date. Here is a loose round-up of our gleanings…

🐝We explore what task paralysis (or ADHD paralysis) is.

Rachael shares the difficulty of getting started on some tasks, particularly if it's overwhelming or boring.

Ruth brings up neurasthenics and passes on wisdom around neuro aesthetics shared by Dr. T. Swart (neuroscientist and former Psychiatrist).

🐝We dip into task completion-says it all. Do you have to force yourself over the finish line? Are you happy to abandon a task part way through? Or do you need to persevere to the end (often to your detriment)?

🐝Rachael shares her “two bucket” approach to ‘shiny’ opportunities. Plus some extra tips on overcommitting too soon.

🐝Exhaustion in ADHD women and some of the deeper causes.

Rachael suggests we start making and keeping promises to ourselves that are achievable, manageable, and energising for us.

Ruth talks about the benefits of understanding our Ayurvedic body types as a way of supporting ourselves holistic approach to ADHD well-being, interoception, and listening to/working with our bodies.

  • The first guest interview for the podcast and what a cracker!

    Melody Humphreys……………………………………

In her words, “I'm a 46-year-old woman, who until 8 months ago still believed I was 42. Not because I was lying to myself or others, but because I truly was not paying that much attention. To date, I have doggy-paddled my way through life, and somehow, I'm still above water and enjoying the swim. At age 30 (or somewhere close to it) I was diagnosed with ADHD, but I prefer to call it bumble-bee thinking. I buzz around, seemingly with no sense of direction, but I get there in the end.”

😊We bumble through a three-way conversation in which Melody shares personal and poignant insights into her ADHD journey. Melody has a particularly joyful and positive attitude to life.

🤗The conversation touches on the importance of interdependence, knowing that we are not alone, and surrounding ourselves with a great team.

🗝️We talk about trusting our instincts and trusting ourselves as a protective measure, rather than relying on the judgment of others.

💡We hear familiar phrases such as “I can’t turn off my brain”, and the risk-taking response of “ I can do that,” without considering whether we are equipped to do it. Or whether it is the best choice for us.

Melody shares some of the nightmare journey she had with medication and her unfolding into a place of peace.

📌Melody also shares the “ice block” tip: holding an ice cube on the roof of her mouth with her tongue to bring her back on track! The opening and closing of freezer doors will reverberate around the world as ADHD women reach for the icetray…

  • 👋Our initial conversation roams widely, warmly, and we hope wisely🤞

We share what we hope to get and give through the podcast:

    👉a support community

👉aims for an easy, relaxed, and informal tone

👉above all, we hope that ADHD women will feel seen, heard, acknowledged, accepted, and celebrated

A little bit of our back stories pop up in conversation...more to come later 😊

We chat about rhythms and routines. And the importance of both consistency and novelty.

    Ruth shares insights:

💡into aspects of Ayurveda and Ayurvedic lifestyle *If you are interested in going down that rabbit hole: The book, Living Ayurveda by Claire Ragozzino. Low Tox Life Podcast-Episode 371-Dr. Shivani Gupta are Ruth's recommendations*

💡a conversation with a young woman approaching the hurdles of diagnosis

💡using muscle memory to help habits stick

Rachael introduces the analogy of training wheels and how all superpowers can make other tasks more of a challenge.

And touches on this “phenomenon” of ADHD and ADD women recently. And how the influx contributes to the lack of available resources to get help (either professional or informal support).

Our own difficulty finding community is the inspiration for this podcast. We hope you will join us if you are looking for support and community. Please email [email protected] or [email protected] if you have discovered you have ADHD/ADD as an adult woman and want to share your story.
