The last time Mamta Kafle spoke to anyone outside of her home was the evening July 29, 2024, when she had a video call with her mother in Nepal. When her mom called Mamta back the next morning at around 11 am, her call went unanswered. According to prosecutors in Prince William County, Virginia, that is because Mamta was dead.
Mamtaâs husband, Naresh Bhatt, claimed she had taken off, leaving both him and their 11-month-old daughter behind. After weeks of public outcry, and multiple search warrants, Naresh Bhatt was arrested on August 22, 2024 on the charge of concealing a dead body.
Over the next several months, there were hearings in which the prosecution detailed a horrific case against Bhatt: one that involved him killing his 28-year-old wife in their Manassas Park home and disposing of her body. Then, on December 2, new evidence led prosecutors to charge Bhatt with two more crimes: Defiling a Dead Body and First Degree Murder. Now Naresh awaits trial, while the community wonders if heâll ever reveal where Mamta is.

Often, when a person goes missing, it happens quickly. A little girl is playing with friends when they lose sight of her, or she gets off the school bus and never makes it home. A dad mows the lawn and is never seen again. But sometimes a disappearance is gradual, with multiple sightings and clues that seemingly lead everywhere and nowhere simultaneously.
Bryce Laspisa was 19 years old when he got in his car and drove away from his girlfriendâs apartment after breaking up with her. His own apartment was 90 miles away, but he never made it home. But he didnât just vanish. Between August 28th and August 30th, 2013, Bryce was seen by multiple people, including law enforcement, and spoke to his parents on the phone several times. But ultimately, Bryceâs car and belongings were found, but there has been no trace of the young man, over a decade later, and this case has reached the level of infamous.

On April 25, 2010 at around 10 pm, 31-year-old Shane Workman told his dad he was going to run to Sheetz, a gas station near their home in Lewistown, Pennsylvania. But Shane never made it there. Mike and his partner, Cindy Workman, didnât realize anything was wrong, and went on a camping trip the next morning. It wouldnât be until they returned that they realized their son had never come home after his trip to the gas station.
A search party was formed immediately, but despite many tips, including the names of people who may have been involved in Shaneâs disappearance, Mike says that Lewistown Police quickly lost interest. After seven years, Shane is still missing, but his family is still fighting for Shane and for justice.

When 13-year-old Bianca Piper got into an argument with her mother, Shannon Tanner, over doing the dishes, Shannon put her in the car, drove her a mile up the road, and told her to walk home. 1, 2, 3, the Donahue family counted. 4, 5, 6, the numbers changed on the banner at their Arden Road home in Nokesville, Virginia. The days turned into weeks, which turned into months, which turned into years. The number had reached over 5,000 before the Donahue family got the news that they had been waiting for: an arrest had been made in the murder of their son, Shane.
On March 22, 2010, 23-year-old Shane Donahue left his parentsâ home and told them that he loved them. Shane, who didnât drive at the time, got a ride with his buddy, Tim Hickerson. Shane was never seen nor heard from again. Over the past 14 years, there have been many allegations made by both the Donahue and Hickerson families, but little in the way of answers or media coverage. Then, on September 17, 2024, Tim Hickerson was arrested in Florida for the murder of his friend, Shane Donahue. It marks the first major movement on this case in over a decade, but the disappearance of Shane Donahue is far from being solved.

According to her husband, Margaret was dealing with post-partum depression at the time, and had previously threatened suicide. But after 18 years with no sign of Margaret, those closest to her donât believe that she went missing on her own.

On October 2, 2024, police announced a huge break in the case of missing 6-year-old, Morgan Nick. A hair that is a DNA match to hers was found in the truck owned by longtime suspect in her case, Billy Jack Links. Links died in prison in 2000, so now the investigation's focus is on finding Morgan's body. We released our episode on Morgan's case in 2021, so this week we are re-releasing it here.
6-year-old Morgan Nick was catching fireflies with her friends on a hot summer night in Alma, Arkansas. She was with her mother at a little league game, having the sort of summer that childhood memories are built on. But as the game ended and her friends returned to their parents, Morgan was gone. Only minutes had passed since Morgan had been seen, but there was no trace of the little girl. Despite a lightning-fast police response and an eyewitness account of a âcreepyâ man talking to Morgan, no trace of her was found after June 9, 1995.

In the early morning hours of February 14, 2000, 9-year-old Asha Degree took her backpack and slipped out of her Shelby, North Carolina home. Several motorists later reported seeing her walking alone in a rainstorm at around 4 am. Where was she going? What or who made her leave her home that night?
Over the next 24 years, Asha Degreeâs story has been the subject of countless blogs, internet forums, Youtube videos, and podcasts. People have become obsessed with getting answers. What made a 9-year-old girl leave her house in the middle of the night, and what happened to her after that?
In September 2024, we finally got some potential answers to the second question after a series of search warrants were executed at various properties in North Carolina. Asha Degree was a bright, talented, happy 9-year-old living with her parents and brother in Shelby, North Carolina. She was an excellent student and the star of her basketball team. Surrounded by grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins, there was no shortage of love in Ashaâs life. But in the early morning hours of February 14, 2000, Asha took her backpack that she had packed with several changes of clothes and slipped out of her house.
Several motorists later reported seeing her walking alone in a rainstorm at around 4 am. Where was Asha Degree going? What or who made her leave her home that night? After nearly 25 years, this remains one of the most confounding cases not only in the small town of Shelby, but in the entire country.

On January 29, 1992, Byron Page was getting ready to go to college and take his driverâs exam. He had already been accepted into several schools, with more acceptance letters on the way. Todayâs story is one about intimate partner violence. According to her family, friends, and police and court records, Mamta Kafleâs husband, Naresh Bhatt, was abusing her. He hid her documents, destroyed her phone, threatened to give their baby to social services, and physically abused her. Throughout it all, Mamta remained a kind, caring friend and a mother whose baby was her entire world. But then, sometime between July 29 and July 30, 2024, she disappeared. Now, her husband is sitting in jail awaiting trial on the charge of concealing a dead body. We first covered Mamtaâs case, which is local to us, two weeks ago. But weâve learned a lot since then. On November 20, 1987, Louis and Susan Zaharias had an argument. By this point, fights werenât uncommon for the couple, who had been married for six years. On August 2, 2024, Manassas Park Police visited the Virginia home that Mamta Kafle shared with her husband, Naresh Bhatt. They were there to perform a welfare check because Mamta didnât show up to work at UVA Health Prince William Medical Center on August 1, and her colleagues were concerned.
Naresh allegedly told police that Mamta had disappeared before, and that he didnât want to file a missing persons report. Three days later, on August 5, Naresh reported his wife missing, but Manassas Park Police didnât make this public until August 8. Since then, the community has banded together to do ground searches, hold vigils, press conferences, and even visit the Nepal embassy, all in hopes of finding out what happened to Mamta Kafle.
