Despite challenging weather conditions this week in KZN, including rain, wind, and fluctuating water temperatures, anglers have managed to reel in a variety of fish.
On the KZN South Coast, Sandspit and Margate Pier have been hotspots, with Garrick caught on live bait, along with species like bronze bream, blacktail, and rock cod.
The Midlands rivers have cleared up after recent rains, offering strong fishing, while the North Coast is buzzing with the arrival of summer species like Dorado and Kuta.
Offshore, the season is heating up with Dorado and yellowfin making an appearance. As the weather improves, fishing conditions are getting better, and with it, the promise of more exciting catches in the coming weeks.
Offshore: On the deeper sea side, Yellowtail and Tuna have been in the mix, although not as plentiful as other areas like Durban.
Rock & Surf: The action down the South Coast continues to be exceptional. While Garrick numbers aren’t massive, the ones showing up are a decent size, and live baits have been doing the trick.
Freshwater: For those looking to avoid the stormy seas, the freshwater scene in the Midlands has been a bright spot. Midmar and Albert Falls have been producing good numbers of bass and carp.

The KZN South Coast area has been the destination of choice for rock and surf this past week as it seemed to have been the hotspot for anglers with the rest of the province reporting a mixed bag of results without any fireworks. While offshore fishing has been thriving with both pelagic and bottom species the freshwater action has been relatively quiet apart from Carp coming to net at Albert Falls. With the heavy rain this past week anglers along the coastline are rigged for the predicated Kob action and to take advantage of the past few days missed opportunities.
Offshore: Rough seas have made offshore fishing challenging, but those who've braved the conditions have managed to land some decent catches.
Rock and Surf: Garrick and brusher have been the primary targets, but it's important to remember that both species are under threat. Please consider catch-and-release to ensure their populations remain healthy.
Freshwater: Freshwater anglers have had a challenging week, with the bass catches being scarce and the trout playing hide & seek however they are confident about this weekend.

Senior Aquarist at the South African Association for Marine Biological Research, Rob Kyle, joins Vinesh Soogreem to explain the science behind size limits.

Offshore:
Fishing has been good offshore with the good weather days seeing bottom fish and gamefish filling the hatches.
Harbour:
The light tackle lure and bait angling on offer in the harbour is something everyone needs to experience. Yes, the water at the slipway can be smelly, but the fun and excitement of catching a springer, kingy or big grunter on a light rod quickly gets that memory behind you. Try it out, you won't regret it!
Rock and Surf:
The shore angling has been good on both the edible and inedible front. The big seas have scoured out some sanded areas so we hope this will improve the fishing.
Freshwater:
The dams and rivers are fishing well. The bass are still the pick of the crop (despite them playing a bit of hide and seek), but the trout are making their presence felt and the carp are keeping their anglers happy.
