  • On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Jim Adkins of Jimmy Eat World.

Earlier this year, Jimmy Eat World unveiled the 25th anniversary tour of Bleed American — a landmark album that wrapped their sophisticated, heartfelt storytelling in giant hooks and polished production.

Before their headlining run kicks off next week, the frontman stopped by the Artist Friendly studio to discuss the right way to finish a song, growing up in the ’90s, and their ability to fit anywhere.

“I don’t know how, but we’ve definitely done tours where it’s like nine ska bands and us or eight hardcore bands and us,” Adkins tells Madden. “Somehow we don’t get chased out of the room.”

  • On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Jacob Charlton of Thornhill.

After opening for Sleep Token on their massive North American arena tour last year, Thornhill quickly captured the attention of the heavy scene. Now, however, they’re in the midst of their own headliner, dubbed the Mercia Tour, presented by our friends at Revolver.

While on the run, the frontman stopped by the Artist Friendly studio to dig into the grind of touring, the intentionality behind heavy music today, the evolution of Thornhill across their records, 2022’s Heroine and 2025’s Bodies, and what it takes to keep a band together for the long haul.

  • On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Maisie Peters.

The British singer-songwriter’s last album, 2023’s The Good Witch, was a “twisted” take on a breakup album, exploring the “fun and intrigue in being so hurt because it means you cared so much.”

Her latest record, Florescence, takes a softer, brighter turn that’s grounded in hope as Peters embraces adulthood.

Sitting down with Madden, Peters discusses her third full-length, being a nonidentical twin, and what it was like working with Marcus Mumford and Julia Michaels, who both appear on the LP.

  • On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Lizzo.

Lizzo shows up fully in everything she does, and this Artist Friendly conversation is no different. From the diamond single — 2019’s rerecorded “Truth Hurts” — that started with tears in the studio to sleeping in her car on Thanksgiving night, she traces the full arc of who she is and how she got here.

Sitting down with Madden, she discusses the Blue Note residency that turned her radio hits into intimate arrangements, the panic attack that cracked her open, and the difference between loss and abandonment.

Additionally, they speak about her upcoming album, Bitch, a fall tour, and a children’s book about a flute who can’t find her voice — based on her life.

  • On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Linda Perry.

Perry quickly made her mark as the primary songwriter, vocalist, and guitarist for 4 Non Blondes, where she penned the international hit “What’s Up?” (which Thursday covered earlier this year). That album, 1992’s Bigger, Better, Faster, More!, spent more than a year on the Billboard 200 following its release, going platinum and racking up millions of streams.

Beyond that, Perry has become a major presence behind the scenes, producing Surfbort’s Keep On Truckin’ in 2021 and working with a slew of pop stars — including Gwen Stefani, Miley Cyrus, and Ariana Grande.

Stopping by the Artist Friendly studio, she joins Madden for a wide-ranging conversation about legacy, creativity, and Let It Die Here — her first solo album in 25 years.

  • On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by DE'WAYNE.

With last year’s june, DE’WAYNE entered a glitzy new era, penning songs that recalled Lenny Kravitz, Sly and the Family Stone, and Brandon Flowers. Centered by love, sex, and soul, the album marked another evolution in his deepening catalog, elevating his showmanship while weaving in enough vulnerability to be “a light for people.”

Returning to the Artist Friendly studio after kicking off the first episode, DE’WAYNE sat down with Madden for a raw, unfiltered catch-up on identity, growth, and arriving as your full self.

They also discussed what it means to be co-signed by Kravitz, hitting arenas with mgk, and why the garage is still the best place to be.

  • On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Melissa Etheridge.

Following the release of her latest album, Rise, the Grammy and Oscar-winning rock alum joins Madden for a hopeful, wide-ranging conversation.

Sitting across from each other, they traverse how a cancer diagnosis two decades ago completely rewired the way she eats, thinks, and moves through the world — and why 22 years later, she’s never felt better.

Etheridge also reflects on losing her son to an opioid overdose, the foundation she started in his name to fund psychedelic research for addiction treatment, and what it felt like to come out in 1993.

  • On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Michael Bingham of Spiritual Cramp.

Last year brought us RUDE, the punk group’s second album, where self-deprecating humor, anxiety, and bruised love songs melded with their “hard mod” style. Their first U.S. headline tour, presented by AP, soon followed, where the band delivered ferocious cool night after night.

Having wrapped the run in late March, the Spiritual Cramp frontman stopped by the Artist Friendly studio for an engaging conversation with Madden. He gets real about building a band from the ground up, scarcity mindset vs. abundance, and why after years of pushing, the momentum is finally starting to feel different.

  • On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Ziggy Marley.

Marley was only 12 years old when his father died, but he’s carried on his legacy, putting out multiple albums, launching a record label, and producing the 2024 film Bob Marley: One Love.

Before the release of his ninth full-length, Brightside, Marley stopped by the Artist Friendly studio for a grounded, soulful conversation with Madden. The two go deep on the making of his record, the song he wrote as a love letter to his father, and what it means to find your path without imitating someone else.

“We all have a purpose here, so I’m just doing my part,” he tells Madden. “I’m not trying to be the brain if I’m the heart.”

  • On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Slayyyter.

After years of building a fanbase from scratch, Slayyyter’s new album, WOR$T GIRL IN AMERICA, feels like her breakout.

The record lives in the same vein as Lady Gaga, Metro Station, and Marina and the Diamonds, reflecting a desire to be “nostalgic but also take it to a place that reminded me of the punk music my skater friends would show me when I was in St. Louis or seeing a Lana Del Rey GIF for the first time on Tumblr.”

Before its release, the pop artist stopped by the Artist Friendly studio. Sitting across from Madden, she dives into growing up in St. Louis, staying DIY on a major label, and what it took to finally feel confident in her art.

  • On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Marc Roberge of O.A.R.

O.A.R. have a massive year ahead, preparing a new album (which they recently teased with the single “Three Tinted Windows”) and celebrating 30 years together. Before their touring season starts up, the vocalist/guitarist stopped by the Artist Friendly studio for a powerful conversation with Madden.

Together, the two Maryland natives trade stories about the long game in music, what it really takes to stay in it, and why mastering your craft will always matter more than chasing a moment. Plus, Roberge shares what’s next for the band.

  • On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Lionel Richie.

Richie is a legend in his own right, making several classic love songs through the years. However, he revealed the profound overwhelm of stardom in a near-500-page memoir, Truly, last year, documenting his journey from a “painfully shy” child to a stadium-sized musician.

Ahead of a busy summer, Madden sits down with the music icon, American Idol judge, and his father-in-law for an unfiltered look at what it means to build a legacy. From a standing ovation at the Oscars to the real weight of fame, family, and survival in the industry, this is a conversation 20 years in the making.-------

  • On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by 2 Chainz.

2 Chainz first came up in the Atlanta hip-hop scene as part of Playaz Circle in the 2000s, though he landed a solo record deal on the strength of his T.R.U. REALigion mixtape in 2011 — as well as verses on Kanye West’s “Mercy” and Nicki Minaj’s “Beez in the Trap” the following year.

From there, the rapper broadened his circle, appearing in the video for Fall Out Boy’s “My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up),” guesting on the remix, and bringing the band out during his Coachella performance in 2013.

Stopping by the Artist Friendly studio, 2 Chainz joins Madden for a thoughtful conversation about therapy, fatherhood, and writing his first book, The Voice in My Head Is God.

  • On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Chris Robinson of The Black Crowes.

Following 2024’s Happiness Bastards, the Black Crowes got straight to work. In early 2025, the Robinson brothers traveled to Nashville to reunite with producer Jay Joyce and build on the momentum of their last album.

The resulting A Pound of Feathers captures a similar energy, full of swaggering rock that, as Robinson tells it, “hits harder, more jagged, but is still true to our musical essence.”

Before heading out on an extensive tour, the frontman stopped by the Artist Friendly studio for a conversation about grief, rebuilding the Black Crowes, and making their newest record in under two weeks.

  • On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Ryan Cabrera.

After graduating from high school, Cabrera played acoustic guitar in Rubix Groove, opening for Cheap Trick and Third Eye Blind. A solo career came calling, though, leading to early 2000s pop stardom, mall tours, and a platinum album. That eventually segued into guest appearances on The Hills and meeting WWE superstar Alexa Bliss at a SmackDown premiere in LA, whom he married in 2022.

Sitting down with Madden, the duo has a funny, vulnerable conversation about growing up in public, balancing family and touring, and what success means.

  • On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Deryck Whibley of Sum 41.

Sum 41 defined an entire generation of skate punk before they played their last show in January 2025. Their final LP, Heaven :x: Hell, was a feat, showing off their signature styles. The Heaven side called back to their snotty pop-punk days, whereas Hell channeled their metallic side that ramped up with 2004’s Chuck.

In the time since, Whibley has released a potent memoir, Walking Disaster, and a clothing brand with the same name, debuting at Warped Tour Orlando last year.

Stopping by the Artist Friendly studio, they get into a raw, reflective conversation where Deryck opens up about his near-death experience, burnout, and what’s next.

  • On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Jordan Pundik of New Found Glory.

Jordan Pundik of New Found Glory will join Joel Madden on the latest episode of the series.New Found Glory became the soundtrack for teen angst during pop punk’s golden age in the early 2000s, blending their upbringings in Coral Springs, Florida DIY scenes with bouncy hooks. That angst, though, came from a very real place.

“I wish I went back a long time ago to deal with [my anxiety],” Pundik tells Madden. “I haven’t been that vocal about it until recently because I would just hide it and push it down and pretend that everything was OK… That’s my biggest regret — not dealing with it sooner.”

In a conversation with his longtime peer, the New Found Glory frontman elaborates on the positive effects of therapy, growing up on tour together, and Listen Up!, out this Friday (Feb. 20).

  • On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Matt Quinn of Mt. Joy.

Last spring, Mt. Joy returned with Hope We Have Fun, an album that, after nearly a decade of touring, solidifies years of hard work coming to fruition — including selling out Madison Square Garden and Red Rocks.

For the frontman, the LP revels in the band’s time together: “We’ve all done ridiculous things in sickness and in health. You just look up, and you’re at Madison Square Garden with these people, and it makes you emotional — it feels like something you never could have dreamed. The album is a realization that we pushed ourselves into this crazy world, sometimes for better and sometimes for worse. It’s a lot about sticking together in relationships, living a crazy lifestyle, and just saying, ‘I hope we have fun.’”

In a candid and thoughtful conversation with Joel, Quinn details exactly what it’s taken to arrive at this point.

  • On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Denis Leary.

Leary specializes in sharp, rapid-fire comedy, honed while coming up through Boston’s local clubs.

“There’s something about Boston comedy crowds — it’s a combination of knowledge and enthusiasm, but they’re also tough,” he said in a local interview. “They can smell blood. They can smell fear. I always felt like it was trial by fire in the Boston clubs in the best possible way.”

He’s gone on to create famous sketches about cancer and coffee, even crossing over from stand-up into TV and film (Rescue Me, Ice Age, etc.) while maintaining his biting humor.

This week, he stops by the Artist Friendly studio for a conversation about his wide-ranging career with Madden.

  • On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Johnny Famiglietti of HEALTH.

At the tail end of last year, HEALTH returned with CONFLICT DLC — a collection of menacing neo-industrial songs comprising all the anger, fear, and sadness of our current reality.

Following up RAT WARS, the album is a continuation of what they started in 2023 but gets darker and heavier, thanks in part to working with Knocked Loose collaborator Drew Folk.

Ahead of their spring headlining tour, the bassist/producer stopped by the Artist Friendly studio to discuss how Elden Ring inspired the band’s recent full-length, his omnivorous music taste, and the eternal pleasure of live music.
