In this new episode our heroes explain how their hopes were dashed by the band Incubus. Along the way they discuss X-Men 97, Soccer!? and why Stefan was caught ugly crying in his car.
Let’s not forget the trademark humour and tangents that the guys are becoming known for!

IIn this new episode, the boys launch a new format, reflecting on recent gigs they've attended such as ASP Allumni Cheekface, and Sweedish Garage Rockers the Hives.
Of course throughout the episode, they bring their warped sense of humour and plenty of laughs.

In this preposterous post-grunge adventure our heroes explore the sonically chameleon and genre bending Stone Temple Pilots and their not so sophomore slump ‘Purple’. Following the breakout commercial success of their debut, the band were faced with critical backlash with the press writing them off as grunge wannabes. The band set out to prove that they were much more than a nirvana tribute band and went about writing one of the truly eclectic records of the 90s.
Of course throughout the episode, they bring their warped sense of humour and plenty of laughs.

That being said, you can browse through our Mellowtron and Retro designs in the merch store. You can also witness the page so big that it slows the entire internet each time it is loaded, the top 10 page on our site as well as drop us a cheeky voicemail message to suggest an album to study/say g’day.

In this indie illustration our heroes dive deep into a newly discovered band. With thanks to a spotify algorithm, Jake was turned onto the gloriously moderate world of Californian indie rockers Cheekface, and their 2022 release ‘Too Much to Ask’. Hooked in by the immediacy of the dry mix, staying for the lyrics and… cheek of the band (can you really blame me with that pun, I kind of had to), Cheekface are proving strong contenders for the ASoundPurchase awards of 2023.
Of course throughout the episode, they bring their warped sense of humour and plenty of laughs.

In this folking folly, our heroes continue their year of new discoveries. Stefan became aware of Phoebe Bridgers after the release of Punisher, and similar to his St. Vincent stories, he had a different preconceived notion of how the music was going to sound. Jake knew exactly how the music was going to sound as his wife is already a fan of Bridgers. The guys couldn’t agree though on why Bridgers wears the skeleton pjs, Jake offering the most commonly accepted reason, however Stefan had a different take…

In this dystopian doomsday diatribe, our heroes ingest all of the gloom so that you simply don’t have to. They are talking about Killing Joke’s second eponymous record; that’s right, the Dave Grohl one. They verge off onto the post Killing Joke career paths, as well as the members’ many links to Aotearoa.
A quick heads up, this was recorded directly after the David Rhodes interview and the guys were shaking with adrenaline. Wrongly or rightly, this was also recorded with the guys in the same room rather than virtually, so the energy is probably on a whole other level.
Of course throughout the episode, they bring their warped sense of humour and plenty of laughs.

In this special edition of ASoundPurchase our heroes navigate the confined dwellings of Crowded House and their 1991 release ‘Woodface’. A massive band from Stefan’s youth, he was adamant that this was not the album to talk about, instead wanting to talk about the next in the catalogue ‘together alone’; or even the most recent ‘dreamers are waiting’. Yet, this remains a special episode because it was chosen by YOU, the listener, and Stefan knew he couldn’t turn you down. Our heroes travel over the various lineup manouvres and recording sessions that patchworked together to create this album and launched the band’s career in the UK in a big way.

In the second jet back to Japan in recent weeks, our heroes delve deep into the cyber-tech world of Mad Capsule Markets and their 2001 release ‘OSC DIS’. With influences ranging from the early Nu-Metal sonority of Slipknot right through to the Ramones-meets-Dick-Dale surf punk from California. The rapid mood changes in this record ensure that the listener can never lose focus.

In this adventure of awe our heroes take a look into the falsetto-filled world of friends and acquaintances which is Bon Iver’s ‘i,i’. At the time of release, each track was released separately over a series of hours and fans were encouraged to form listening parties to soak in the melodies. Packed with guests and co-writers, this album is a complex treasure trove of ideas and songs.

In this folly of fusion our heroes find themselves in Japan studying Polysics. From jumpsuits and Doc Brown inspired glasses, to the beautiful fusion of many contemporary genres. There is something delightfully rudimentary about their approach, although as with most things seemingly simple, there is much more than meets the eye.

In this fusional folly our heroes dive into the world of “white reggae” in the Police’s ‘Regatta de Blanc’. A holy trinity consisting of a Bass playing Geordie, a jazzy Bournemouthian, and a man of the world drummer set the music industry alight with their unique fury and groove. In this, their second record, the ferocious punk settled to a simmer and the reggae had its day in the sun. The question remains, will this record become a bonafide Sound Purchase.
Of course throughout the episode, they bring their warped sense of humour and plenty of laughs.

In this ethical adventure, our hardcore heroes traverse the justifiably angry world of Fugazi. A post-hardcore band from Washington DC, and somewhat of a punk supergroup, Fugazi are legendary for putting their fans first by famously ensuring that ticket prices were, music was plentiful, and live shows were unforgettable.

In this Fuzzy Folly our heroes explore the not so familiar world of St. Vincent’s 2014 eponymous release, St. Vincent. From midnight encounters with ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin to travelling through time to use Jake’s new Box-o-Bees fuzz pedal. There have been a series of Mishaps with this episode, from medical incidents and a corrupted sd card which have led to us attempting to record this episode three different times.

In this not-so ambient affair, our heroes navigate through avant-pop of Brian Eno’s second record, ‘Taking Tiger Mountain (by strategy)’. From famous friends to the Oblique Strategy cards; as well as the introduction of Stefan’s Book Corner blog. it's all discussed in their trademark, off the wall and “esoteric” humour as they head off on wild tangents.

In this classic caper, our heroes face their toughest challenge yet as they swoop into the post Sgt. Pepper’s Summer of Love. They push past the Hippies, rage at the war in Vietnam, and deep dive into Love’s ‘Forever Changes’

In this frightful folly, our heroes discuss 1992’s ‘Generation Terrorists’ by Manic Street Preachers. They try, but fail, to not compare this record with fellow Welsh rockers Stereophonics - episode 59. They even make an alternate track listing to shorten the record to all of the bangers (unconsciously turning this record into an all time classic).
Of course along the way the guys throw in their trademark, off the wall and “esoteric” humour and head off on wild tangents.

In this classic caper our heroes dive into the unknown and explore the immense world of Cardiacs.
Neither of us had any experience with the band, and upon first judgement we were unsure of the punishment we had put ourselves in for. Much like the long fabled Ween episode, we had a treasure trove awaiting us, despite the early hesitations.

In this special soiree our heroes find themselves at either end of an argument as they can’t agree on who the Travelling Wilburys actually are (no bits!).
Hailed as an early supergroup, the Travelling Wilburys managed to put out just one record in 1988, before the death of Leftie. That didn't stop them from creating one of the most near perfect albums in existence though.
