  • My author interview with portal fantasy writer Stephanie DosSantos was fascinating, as we discussed Caribbean folklore in our Writers on Their Writing Process series. We explored storybook and folklore retellings, focusing on her portal fantasy series, Talin and the Tree, which draws heavily from Caribbean folklore.

Stephanie’s book, Talin and the Tree, follows Talin, a bullied outcast who stumbles upon a portal hidden within the island's sacred tree. He is unexpectedly chosen to become the island’s next Healer, a title long vacant and fiercely contested by his rival. Only one can claim this legendary role, and Talin must decide whether to embrace his destiny or let it fall into the wrong hands.

Described by young adult readers as "Harry Potter meets The Chronicles of Narnia," this enchanting, epic fantasy is sure to captivate fans.

  • I truly enjoyed my author interview with literary fiction writer Jeanne Blasberg. She is a best selling author and writing teacher. She recently published the literary fiction Daughter of a Promise, which is a biblical retelling of David and Bathsheba. I am so excited to read this one, and it is definitely on my TBR. This is the final book in her trilogy that began with Eden and then the second in the series was The Nine.

As a writer she brings strong female characters to the forefront and beautifully details her main characters self-discovery journey through a letter to her unborn son... a journey that includes the corporate world, feminism, love, and loss during a time that changed the world as we know it. Though she has always been a writer, she now finds herself as a lettuce farmer, finding her creativity off the paper and in nature. This interview is definitely one to listen to. • My author interview with memoir writer Kevin O’Connor in the Writers on Their Writing Process series was very fascinating as we discussed his memoir that began as 700 letters written from family members. Kevin is an accomplished storyteller and genealogist dedicated to preserving family histories through writing and picture collections. His extensive career in education, spanning nearly five decades, included roles as a teacher, principal, professor, and curriculum coordinator in various states.

Kevin is also active in community theater and the SMART Ride, a charity bicycling event. He lives in Ft. Lauderdale with his husband, Leon, and their blended family of five sons and seven granddaughters. Today, we'll discuss his memoir, "Two Floors Above Grief," exploring lessons from his upbringing in a funeral home, balancing family life with business, and organizing ancestral letters. Please welcome Kevin O’Connor.
