  • My guest today is Aaron Woodman. Aaron is an extremely high-performing HYROX athlete and coach. At the time of recording, he held the British Open record in HYROX. It was a really interesting conversation, with some surprising concepts that go against much of what you hear and see in the coaching world online these days. This conversation is full of super-nerdy, tactical stuff — we talk about VO2 max, lactate threshold, all that good stuff. Hope you enjoy the episode and get as much out of it as I did.Fully Timestamped Chapter List 00:00:00 Trailer for Aaron Woodman 00:00:47 First Marathon & Early Running 00:02:07 Finding Hyrox 00:04:28 Records, Rankings & Race Format 00:06:15 Timing Issues & RoxZone Variability 00:11:28 Performance Focus vs. Chasing Times 00:15:19 Course Differences & Expectations 00:18:04 PBs, Berlin Plans & Strength Numbers 00:22:21 Strength VS Training Specificity 00:26:46 Simple Programming & Repetition 00:32:29 Off-Season, Load & Recovery 00:36:39 Racing vs. Training 00:39:52 Racing More Often 00:43:05 Pacing & Race Strategy 00:48:31 Lactate, Run Intensity & Split Management 00:54:07 Cramp, Hydration & Rituals 00:49:38 Threshold-Based Pacing 01:02:38 Training Volume & Consistency 01:04:01 VO2 Max 01:07:26 Strides & Session Planning 01:10:00 Wall Balls & Station Drills 01:23:34 Data Review & Improvements 01:26:46 Late-Race Fatigue 01:29:34 5K Metrics & PFT Critique 01:31:59 Breaking 60 Strategy 01:34:12 Station Focus & Race Selection 01:36:39 Training vs. Race Conditions 01:41:45 Overtraining & Recovery 01:46:39 Smart Session Programming 01:48:53 Client Success Stories 01:52:17 Coaching Philosophy 01:56:41 Templates vs. Custom Plans 01:59:33 Accountability & Coach Boundaries 02:00:15 Nutrition & Supplements 02:06:28 Overrated/Underrated 02:09:33 2024 Goals 02:10:17 Coaching Plug 02:10:35 Closing Remarks***LINKS***WDM Coaching Instagram:https://bit.ly/4lAyyHhMY STUFF:Awaken Out Of Context Podcast (YouTube & Podcast Links):https://bit.ly/3tk8FVvFollow Me On Instagram (@awakenoutofjason):https://bit.ly/3RAkKQj#hyrox #podcast #coaching

  • Welcome back to the podcast. Today, my guest is Andy Allan—my cousin and an extremely popular guest from nearly two years ago (episode 4!)

Andy recently broke the Guinness World Record for the most weight lifted via kettlebell clean and press in 60 minutes.

Our conversation is split into two parts. Part one, this week, focuses on Andy’s journey over the past two years—attempting to break the record, the mental and physical challenges he faced, and the process of overcoming them. We tap into a lot of that.

Part two (releasing next week) is a much broader conversation, but we also cover some tactical pointers on how to go about breaking a world record—the steps you need to take—as well as general lessons and reflections on life and training, which I hope you’ll find useful.

I hope you enjoy my conversation with Andy Allan.

  • Hey everybody, welcome back to the podcast and to this solo episode—one that's been a little overdue, to say the least. In today’s episode, I reflect on the highs and lows of last year, share some lessons learned over the Christmas period, and open up about my struggles with perfectionism, low mood, and balancing authenticity with the demands of podcasting.

I also dive into actionable tools and concepts that have been helpful in my own life, from strategies for pulling yourself out of low moments to ways of being more intentional with your time and energy. This one’s raw, reflective, and hopefully relatable.

  • The idea of doing our story work, probably seems like an abstract and intangible thing for the vast majority us, isn’t it just new age jargon left for likes of silicon valley founders or permanently self-reflective podcasters?

It’s often said that to find happiness we must find meaning in our life, or a sense of purpose, but, you can’t have either before knowing your story and what ultimately drives you to achieve things in life.

And if this is the case then that would suggest that you cannot achieve happiness without first knowing - or finding - your story.

Today’s guest Dr Joey Liu is renowned for helping her clients do their sacred story work, she’s also a mother, wife, coach, educator, writer and much more.

The conversation is quite deep in parts as we tapped into some self reflective work and insecurities I’ve had in looking at my own story as it relates to the podcast and my motivation to continue having these conversations.

The start is a little bit different as we begin with a guided meditation by Joey. So if you are driving, please do not participate and just skip through this using the chapters.

But if you are in a safe place to do, so I welcome you to join us, it’s a really way to kick off the episode.

    Joey, and I discuss:

    Kundalini Yoga

Knowing your values before stating your vision

Joey and I's experience’s of being told that we think too much

How to trace negative self-talk, back to where it came

How to hear and trust your inner voice.

The difference between community and Society

Joey's tips on how to find a community

    How Joey manifested her husband

    And much more

Please enjoy my conversation with Dr Joey Liu.
