Associate professor Seana Gall is an epidemiologist who has dedicated her life to finding out how our population is affected by heart disease and stroke.
She says that understanding what is behind the trends in these diseases can help us to prevent them. This is extremely important in Tasmania where some of the risk factors are higher than we would like them to be - but she says it’s easier to keep track of people here over the course of a long term study.
We are were thrilled to have our first visionary epidemiologist step into the spotlight for this episode.

The visionary we are putting in the spotlight in this episode is Associate Professor Greg Oates.
Greg is an academic at UTAS who wants kids to have the power over their own destinies. He loves teaching so much that he teaches our teachers as the program director for the Bachelor of Primary Education course at UTAS where he’s making a real difference for the state.
He also thinks it’s essential for someone in his position to spread his understanding to others in his field through conferences and seminars many of which he’s organised or helped organise bringing dozens of international experts to Tasmania.

Sam Reid describes himself as a storyteller but to anyone else, he’s known as one of the brains behind Willy Smith’s Apple Shed in the Huon Valley and more recently Du Cane Brewing in Launceston but that’s far from the whole story.
We are thrilled to have him join us at BET headquarters for this episode of the visionary spotlight.

Tasmania was built by people who worked tirelessly towards a vision, it didn’t become the amazing island it is on its own.
It’s a state that’s driven by people who tirelessly work to drive our industries forward.
They are courageous doers who work passionately towards excellence.
People who have risen to the top and become leaders, not because they sought leadership but because they have done remarkable things and never compromised on their vision.
As it happens, ended up in prominent positions along the way.
They are Tasmania’s visionaries and you can hear from them directly on the Visionary Spotlight. A podcast from Business Events Tasmania.
Hear from some of the state's top minds as they join host Sam Ikin in-studio at BET headquarters.
The first episode drops early in 2024.
