  • There’s a lot of energy moving right now all around the world, and although your particular flavor of turmoil and chaos may differ depending on where in the world you are, as a highly sensitive your nervous system is feeling it. Whether you’re experiencing political drama, family overcommitments as the holidays approach, challenging business stressors, or even threats to your personal safety all of this can feel especially difficult to manage in the moment.

Yet we have the opportunity to practice privilege of agency and take personal responsibility to manage your nervous system reactions to your circumstances. You can make a choice to take action and use energy techniques to ground you and energy management to support you in continuing to take steps to create what it is that you desire and in the way that you desire.

In this podcast episode, I share the difference between energy management and energy techniques. I discuss the Bowan Family Dynamics theory and my subjective connection between being highly sensitive and being the absorber of the family. I talk about how this leads us as HSPs to be especially susceptible to nervous system overwhelm as a reaction to what’s happening in the world at this time. If you are an untrained highly sensitive, then you are likely experiencing this energy as stress and are defaulting to fight, flight, freeze, or fawn – or getting triggered into your default coping mechanisms of pushing, hiding, or combo plattering between the two.

Yet if you are a trained highly sensitive leader, you can make a choice to take personal responsibility right now and turn to both energy techniques and energy management to ground yourself. Listen in as I share 3 powerful energy techniques to bring calm to your nervous system so you can be of the highest service through business as a highly sensitive leader, especially during times of intensity.

  • Using your HSP strengths to build genuine connections in your business can support you in business networking, leadership, team communications, and any difficult conversations in your business or personal life. Creating a genuine connection requires mutual trust and understanding as well as vulnerability on both sides. It creates a deeper level of understanding and allows us to grow and learn more about ourselves through learning more about others. The untrained HSP waits for others to take the lead and allows their automatic trauma responses to dictate their relationships, but the trained HSP takes the lead and sets the energy, sets the stage and does it differently.

In this podcast episode, I discuss what assumption of positive intent is NOT as well as what it IS and how it specifically relates to making genuine connections as an HSP in business and leadership. I share how assumption of positive intent gives you access to your HSP strengths and I provide the 3 keys to follow in order to form meaningful genuine connections and how this leads to more income. Be sure to listen until the end for a short exercise where I support you in discovering a current situation where you can begin to use these 3 keys to transform your business relationships starting right away.

  • Each of us highly sensitives has our own set of beliefs, perspectives, and experiences that shape how we see everything, including interactions with other people. It can be all too common for us to make quick assumptions and react when someone says or does something we perceive to be intentionally mean or hurtful, especially if it triggers an automatic trauma response. This reaction (or maybe even over-reaction) is due to our assumption of poor intent. In situations like this, an untrained HSP will very likely overreact in some way, maybe lashing out or shutting down as a way to protect and attempt to keep safe. However, trained HSPs can choose to master the skill of assuming positive intent and avoid falling into this trap.

In this episode I discuss the topic of assumption of positive intent, sharing more on what it is and why it is so important for us to be in practice with this skill in all our relationships as HSPs, especially in business. I talk about why we struggle with this skill and what we can do about it, outlining five steps that we can take to assume positive intent. Where this can especially come in handy for us as highly sensitives in business and leadership is networking, sales conversations, team hiring, team delegation, and any difficult conversation.

Research shows that adopting this positive mindset can can help reduce misunderstandings and conflict with others and overall can also lead to a happier, more harmonious life. And I would add as a result, an experience of less effort, more impact and more income as a highly sensitive leader.

  • As highly sensitives, we all have unhelpful patterns. It’s part of the process of shifting out of our HSP shadows and stepping into our HSP strengths. For those of us HSPs who choose to be in business and leadership, this shift is necessary in order for us to achieve more peace, productivity and impact.

What will support you with stepping into your strengths and identifying current unhelpful HSP patterns is exploring HSP types. This will allow you to further know yourself as a highly sensitive leader more deeply as well as enhance your dominant HSP strengths.

In this episode I identify the four different HSP types for you. I also share in detail the strengths and the unhelpful shadow energy drain for each type. Through listening to the different characteristics that make up each type, you will be able to identify which type, or likely a combination of more than one type, most resonates with you.

Armed with this knowledge you can use it to uncover your own unhelpful HSP patterns and explore alternatives to enhance your dominant HSP strengths in order to be more creative and productive and then therefore more profitable and impactful in business and leadership.

  • A common cognitive distortion that HSPs fall prey to is all or nothing thinking, which causes you to see the world more negatively than it really is, and is linked to anxiety, depression, and even PTSD. As highly sensitives in business and leadership, it is important to engage in the retraining of your nervous system and develop high functioning skills based on your HSP strengths so you can grow resilience, alleviate anxiety and move forward towards your desires and dreams in spite of any chaos or disruption that is happening around you. All so you are able to walk through and lead the way for yourself, your family and friends, your team, and your clients.

In this episode, I talk about the common tendency for highly sensitives to fall into either/or thinking, and how this is often the result of our lifelong experience of feeling othered and misunderstood. I explain that this pattern of thought, that most often is not based on facts, is an opportunity for us to develop high-functioning HSP skills based on our HSP strengths so we can shift into the both/and approach. I share three steps to support you in making this shift and empowering yourself and others to operate from this approach. All so that you can be of highest service not only to yourself, but to others and for the overall betterment of the world.

  • As an HSP in business and leadership, it is important to learn how to first shift from sympathy to empathy, and then from empathy to compassion. To do this we need to actively engage in identifying and experiencing our full range of emotions, and then manage our response to those feelings using nervous system management tools in order to access lightheartedness and flow into hopeful action in spite of. All so we can be of highest service to ourselves, those we serve, and everyone around us.

In this episode, I go into depth about the difference between sympathy, empathy, and compassion. I discuss how compassion is where we as highly sensitives in business and leadership are able to make the greatest difference and impact because compassion is the willingness to take action in service to positive change, which is often why we’ve chosen to be in business in the first place. I also share how lightheartedness supports us in being able to make the shift from empathy into compassion and what you can do to access hope and lightheartedness to stay out of the trap of limiting beliefs and HSP shadow behaviors.

“Our nervous system is wired to take in stimulation at a much higher degree, which means we are able to really intuit what another person is thinking, what they’re feeling, what they’re experiencing, and when we’re in a strength perspective, that allows us the ability to understand and share the feelings of that other person.” – Heather Dominick

  • In a time when so many people are operating from fear when it comes to investments and income, it is more important than ever to step forward and show up as leaders in our families, communities, businesses, and organizations. Not through coping, but from empathetic compassion to demonstrate to others how a different way is possible. That you can hold things lightly, care deeply, and act with clarity, even (and especially) with investments and income generation, in order to achieve the financial peace that you desire.

In this episode, I discuss the importance of lightheartedness when it comes to your investments and to generating income in your business as a highly sensitive. I share how your nervous system responds to what you feed it, and since we have a higher nervous system response than the other 80%, the non-highly sensitives of the world, the key to our success lies in using both inner and outer core practices to keep our vibe up and access hope over worry. This is our role as a Royal Advisor in these tumultuous times.

  • In order to truly experience abundance as a highly sensitive leader in business, it’s necessary to heal your money story. Starting first by understanding the difference between cost and investment informed by what you define as valuable to you. From there, considering cost as an amount paid or spent to obtain something and investment as an act of devoting time, effort, or energy to a particular undertaking with the expectation of a worthwhile return.

Training yourself to see things through the lens of investment, and most importantly challenge socialized concepts of both cost and investment, is what will bring about an experience of financial ease and fulfillment. When you operate your business from this perspective, it will bring about business miracles for you and those you serve that you cannot even begin to perceive.

In this episode, I share how my own shift in perception of cost versus investment was the key to changing my relationship with money and my experience with abundance. I go in-depth about the difference between cost and investment and how taking personal responsibility to release negative beliefs about money and to define what you value – not society, your family, friends, or even your religious values – is crucial in bringing about your own shift in perception and therefore change with your story about money.

  • As an HSP in business and leadership, it’s important to develop an expanded mindset, to be mentally prepared to think beyond what everyone else around you thinks so you can then behave differently than everyone else around you behaves, especially in times of intensity. Developing an expanded mindset is the mental form of going to the physical gym. You don’t go to the gym and take one yoga class or lift one set of weights and expect results. You go back every day until it’s 30 days and then 60 days before you begin to see results. The same goes for developing an expanded mindset. It is a continuous process that requires attention and study to prepare for future moments of challenge and difficulty. It is this mindset that fuels purpose and gives you the courage to stay the course and claim a place among the 20%, as an HSP, who influence betterment for others, whether that be family, friends, coworkers or clients.

In this episode I read an excerpt from chapter 4 of my book “Different”, which talks about the importance of developing an expanded mindset as an HSP in business and leadership who is committed to change, growth and evolution. I share the key components necessary to be in continuous consistent practice with challenging your mindset so you can shift your thoughts and beliefs to support you in acting differently, and therefore bringing about a different result. All to help you remain resilient and stay on the path of serving through your purpose-driven business by choosing the way of effortlessness.

  • As we cross the mid-year point, this is a great opportunity to check in and reflect on the past six months to acknowledge what you’ve accomplished. However, typically for highly sensitives, what also tends to immediate come to mind are all the things you have not yet accomplished. This tendency can so easily overshadow what you have created so far and cause you to want to quit. Yet, to get what you most want, the key is to celebrate how far you’ve come. This is the way we go from feeling hopeless to hopeful and staying the course rather than quitting and giving up.

In this episode I talk about the importance of claiming and celebrating success as a mark of highly sensitive leadership and how this essential practice of visibility and vulnerability is crucial to getting what we want in business and life. I discuss the two reasons HSPs are often so resistant to celebrate what has already been created and how we can shift this. I also share the concept of pacing, like when running a marathon, to stay engaged in the process of transformation in order to combat the experience of fatigue that we bump up against in the final stretch, where sabotage, lashing out, and defaulting to coping often occurs. This teaching is a great opportunity to check in, acknowledge how far you’ve come, fill up with some hope so you can keep going in your business and life growth. Which, ultimately, is about fulfilling and living your life purpose.

“It’s the final stretch of a marathon that’s most challenging because this is when the delirium of fatigue sets in…There is a sense that things are helpless, there’s a sense that things are hopeless and it’s right at that delirium of fatigue moment in running the marathon when you want to throw up your hands and quit.” – Heather Dominick

  • Most highly sensitives will use the majority of their life force energy for the majority of their life to do whatever they can to avoid tension. They will do anything and everything to protect themselves from even the possibility of overwhelm. Yet, to be a self-empowered highly sensitive leader, we need to be willing to be pioneers and actively seek out opportunities for transformation. So instead of avoiding tension, we can choose to lean into tension and work with it consciously and intentionally. This focus on the intentional use of tension is not so that we can get through it, but instead be stronger, calmer, and more joyful in however it is that we are meant to answer the call of our purpose.

In this episode, I discuss how as highly sensitives we can intentionally use tension in order to continue to create and prosper. I share the four key steps to support this intentional use of tension when we choose to lean in and recognize it as a call for transformation versus destruction. This approach can give us a strength to success in business as an HSP no matter what is happening around us – a power to step up and into the royal advisor role we are called to be in business and leadership.

  • Being able to shift from resistance to resilience is an important skill to master as a highly sensitive in business and leadership, especially in our current times. Right now, we are all in a collective experience of tension created by seemingly opposing influences that are pushing and pulling and forcing decisions you might not feel ready to make or do anything about. Yet rather than this being a negative experience, this tension can be used as a proactive energy to fuel change and inspire you into action. This is a choice you have – to choose resilience instead of resistance.

In this episode, I share how back in 2017 I created a Business Miracles teaching titled: The Path from Resistance to Resilience. This was long before current world events brought all of us into an accelerated experience of more frequent tension and choice points. I discuss how this teaching is necessary now more than ever in supporting HSPs in business and leadership when it comes to accessing resilience through grace and grit, and how the root of most highly sensitive resistance is not overwhelm, but the fear of even the possibility of overwhelm. I also go over the three key elements that will support you with being able to continue to access resilience rather than being triggered into your highly sensitive shadows and coping mechanism.

“Will you choose to fall prey to the fear that the media feeds on and outside circumstances? Or will you choose to put in place core practices and tools to manage your own relationship with the fear of the possibility of overwhelm, resistance and choice points?” – Heather Dominick

  • Consistently engaging in nourishing relationships, especially within an aligned community, is a powerful way to accelerate growth and success for HSPs in business and leadership. Being in aligned community removes the element of feeling “other” and gives you access to what Rupert Sheldrake calls the “morphogenetic field”. Through his theory of morphic resonance, groups with a likeness and alignment create accelerated learning simply by being part of that group, making for each member of the community possible, what alone would have been impossible.

In this episode, I discuss how I came to see that as HSPs we need to approach business and marketing differently than the other 80% and how community is a key component. I share how I developed the 3 pillars of highly sensitive leadership success (community, core, practice, and consistency), and the 4C’s of marketing success (connection, communication, call to action, and consistency). I go in-depth on how the 4C’s not only apply to marketing but to any relationship, and how community is often something we avoid as HSPs but is the true superpower to success in business and leadership.

  • Setting healthy boundaries is an act of resilience for highly sensitives in business and leadership. When we’re living as untrained highly sensitives, and do not create supportive boundaries for ourselves, we end up operating from shadows such as over-responsibility, overprotection, and people pleasing. The HSP leadership opportunity here instead is to take personal responsibility to get clear about what you need, set boundaries based on your needs and values and then take action to create dividing lines that separate your physical space, feelings, needs, and responsibilities from others. All so that you can be of highest service to both yourself and those around you in your business and life.

In this podcast episode, I discuss how lack of boundaries leads to lack of focus leaving your energy drained and your business bank account suffering. Most importantly, I share how to get clear about your HSP needs and then specifically how to work with time to honor your needs, and effectively communicate your needs to others (a.k.a. set boundaries) all so that you can be your most creative and profitable self in your business.

  • In the journey of becoming and being an HSP in business and leadership, it’s important to consistently engage in the process of shifting from an untrained HSP to a trained HSP. All in order to create with more ease. However, as HSPs we often get caught up in the false belief that in order to succeed in business and leadership we need to do it the same way as the other 80% who are not highly sensitive. So we forgo the value of paced process in exchange for “playing a bigger game hustle” which tends to toss us into the HSP Coping Cycle of Fear/Anxiety/Pushing/Hiding/Shame/Recovery, rather than motivating us to create productively.

In this podcast episode, I read an excerpt from my book “Different”, where I share my experience of feeling overwhelmed by the common coaching industry phrase of “play a bigger game” and how it triggered feelings of ‘not enough’ for me rather than motivating me to create more. I discuss how rather than pushing yourself to hustle to play a bigger game, you can access your inner magnitude, the HSP part of you that is connected to inner guidance and the magic of the universe. I share how you can access this part of you through self-inquiry to claim what truly inspires you. • Growing up highly sensitive, many of us missed the opportunity of individuation, or differentiation at a young age – what Margaret Mahler refers to as “hatching”. Because of this, we learned to cope and often hide our highly sensitive difference. We developed coping mechanisms of pushing or hiding (or moving back and forth between pushing and hiding) as a way to adapt rather than embrace our uniqueness and differences. Although this an understandable response we developed to keep ourselves safe when we were younger, now it’s time to stop feeling confused and believing you need to deny who you really are in order to be successful in business and life. Everything is now meant to be done differently.

In this podcast episode, I read an excerpt from my book “Different”, where I vulnerably share my struggle to write my book. I came to realize I was guided to write it because I was meant to teach HSPs not just how to market and sell in their business differently, but how to step up and lead as a highly sensitive to create greater impact (and income) with a lot less effort through these extraordinary times. I also discuss Margaret Mahler’s concept of hatching – a process of separation, individuation and differentiation – and the four sub-phases in this process. I go into more detail on the differentiation phase and speak to how this specifically impacts highly sensitives and our unique journey in this world as HSPs in business and leadership.

  • As a highly sensitive person, our neuro-sensitivity is not going away. So, if you are allowing your business or career and life to be dictated by socialized trends, then you are setting yourself up to be in a constant state of anxiety. The focus we want, in order to avoid the comparison traps and pressures of socialized trends, is on how to be able to not only manage our sensitivity, but utilize it in a way that really allows us to show up in business and leadership in the world from a place of highly sensitive strength.

In this podcast episode, I discuss the importance of staying above the fray of socialized trends, especially as a highly sensitive in business and leadership. I share how our social self is born as a response to pressure from the world around us. And how if we stay stuck in this comparison trap we are privileging anxiety instead of choosing privilege of agency. Most importantly, I share what you can do instead.

“If you are allowing your business to be dictated by socialized trends, if you are allowing your work, your career to be dictated by socialized trends…if you are allowing your life to be dictated by socialized trends as a person who is highly sensitive, you are setting yourself up to be in a constant state of anxiety. You are setting yourself up to be in constant motion with the coping cycle and constant tug of war with resistance.” – Heather Dominick

“This is not the time in our world to be giving in to the fray of socialized trends, the fear, the anxiety, the divisiveness, and it is not the time to flake out. It is the time to choose to recognize we are in a new world now, my friends, if you’re waiting for it to be over, it’s going to be a long wait.” – Heather Dominick

  • When we are untrained as a highly sensitive we can often find ourselves stuck in comparison traps – comparing our lives and businesses to to the other 80% who are not highly sensitive, or even to others who are highly sensitive to see if we “measure up”. But this is a guaranteed recipe for failure that will have you operating from your coping mechanisms of pushing, hiding or combo between the two; as well as being stuck in shadows such as people pleasing, perfectionism, and over-responsibility.

Instead, we have the opportunity to choose privilege of agency as a healthy approach to making decisions, using discernment and setting boundaries based on our highly sensitive strengths. Only when we do this will we truly be able to remove the shackles of comparison and instead embrace and live from our essential self as a highly sensitive in business and life.

In this podcast episode, I go deep into what privilege of agency is, and what it isn’t. I share my own journey of how I developed this concept and how I’ve used it to make massively impactful changes in how I operate. I discuss how it specifically relates to you as a highly sensitive in business and leadership and why this particular teaching is more important now than ever. So you will be able to step out of comparison traps and step up into your purpose and be the change you want to see in the world while also creating the personal success and freedom you desire.

  • As a highly sensitive in business and leadership, living on purpose is the ultimate form of self-care. This requires you to face your overwhelm and learn that, as A Course in Miracles states, “peace is part of you and requires only that you be there to embrace any situation in which you are.” Your life purpose is not what you do, or something you find, but is instead something you choose in every decision, action and interaction. It’s not a legacy we leave, but a legacy we live. Our life purpose takes courage to feel what we naturally don’t want to feel.

In this podcast episode, I discuss how accessing the power of your heart as a gateway to your HSP Intuition is what will allow you to heal business and leadership turmoil and overwhelm. As well as support you with standing strong in the midst of the fire of our times, and have the passion to pursue your life purpose. I share how the mastery of discomfort resilience takes compassion plus courage, which equals the opening of the heart, and how this process of the opening of the heart requires two very important components. This is a trainable process and a valuable opportunity for growth in order for you to achieve HSP business and leadership success.

  • The key to reducing overwhelm, especially as a highly sensitive in business and leadership, is to build discomfort resilience through containment as an act of self-care. Containment is NOT about suppressing, ignoring, or soothing your emotions. It is instead about allowing the experience of your uncomfortable emotions without staying stuck in them, and then turning to HSP energy management tools I’ve created like the Order Form to the Universe (OFTU) to support you with accessing your highly sensitive strengths.

In this podcast episode, I go deep into what containment is NOT, what containment IS, and how we can shift from overwhelm and overprotection into focus and flow. I discuss how the act of developing discomfort resilience is the opposite of overprotection, and is instead about taking personal responsibility for your emotions, recognizing that they don’t have to control you. It is not the automatic HSP response, but it is a doable, teachable, and important skill to master in spite of what’s happening around you and in the world at large, especially as a highly sensitive in business and leadership.
