Django Davidson hosts Jamie Isenwater, a veteran analyst, investor and entrepreneur in the consumer and luxury industry on this latest episode of the Capital Cyclists podcast.
The pair revisit Django's 2017 essay, "The Death of the Brand," exploring how internet distribution undermined the economics of legacy FMCG companies , how âBig Brandsâ took for granted their âmoatsâ and the specific role that physical distribution plays in the drinks industry.
Jamie shares insights from his entrepreneurial venture, Socially Spirited, which leverages direct-to-consumer sales and ambassador networks to challenge traditional brand-building methods.
Together, they unpack the dynamics of brand longevity, valuation shifts, and the future direction of consumer staples.

Amidst a continuing rally in prices, an audacious âbuy not build' approach by the world's largest mining company BHP, and continued supply disruptions, copper is front and centre of the investment debate.
How should investors think about the amplitude and longevity of this cycle?
In Episode 6 of the Capital Cyclists, portfolio manager Django Davidson is joined by Dan Myerson, CEO of Foran Mining, a C$1.3bn Canadian copper mining company held by Hosking Partners, and former head of Copper and Zinc (North America) at Glencore.
Dan and Django dig into the detail, outlining why a supply-focused approach helps cut through the market noise, and why an understanding of the capital cycle is so important.

Steven Chambers, analyst at Hosking Partners, interviews CLSAâs John Seagrim and Jeremy Hosking for the third episode of Capital Cyclists.
John started his career as an equities broker 10 days before Black Monday in October 1987. Two years later he joined Lehman Brothers just as the Japanese stock market peaked, and, in his own words âhas been riding, or more accurately sliding, with Japan ever sinceâ. From a stock market perspective, Japan has seldom been as insignificant as it is today, it represents a little over 4% of the aggregate global stock market capitalisation despite being one of the worldâs largest economies. John and Jeremy think this is the nadir for equity valuations. Their discussion is hot on the heels of Jeremyâs recent investor trip and Hosking Partnersâ first overweight exposure to Japan. They perceive extraordinary, often hidden, value in Japanese equities at a moment when the country appears to be at an historic turning point.
