  • Let’s talk about money!
Not how much, but how; how to have these conversations and why they are so important. There is so much fear around money conversations that they just don’t happen. This often leaves partners in the dark about finances and kids money illiterate. Although this is not your intention; as a society Money is still the #1 taboo topic and we have still don’t know how to talk about it. Yet, “how” we learned the value of money at an early age drives the majority of our behaviors as an adult, we still don’t talk about it. Listen up! Money is an important topic! It rules the world and influences our lives on a daily basis. We all have a relationship with money. Do you know what yours is? Part 1 talks about why it’s important to talk about money. The upcoming parts in this series will guide you through Money National Park where you will hear story sparks to help you recall your money stories and then you can better decide how to share them, with whom and when. Our goals is to help everyone become money savvy and comfortable sharing your money stories.

  • CCnDoc have a philosophical conversation regarding which is more important, Love or Acceptance? Obviously, both, but if you cant have both, which matters more? If not received, what happens to our confidence? Learn how these two pivotal emotions impact our world. Just how important is it to get the love you need? And, is love more important than having someone’s acceptance? Or, is it acceptance that you really need? A saying comes to mind, “We die to please those who love us least.” How does your behavior change when you are seeking someone’s Love and/or Acceptance? Chances are, a lot. • Today CCnDoc discuss the truth about getting and giving unconditional love and how love/hate relationships are formed by having unrealistic expectations of others and yourself. Be it family, friends or political figures, how can you possibly love EVERYONE unconditionally? How do you get your own love needs met within yourself? And, if you love unconditionally can you still set boundaries with energy vampires? When you love unconditionally it is a “state of giving” that ultimately leads to your inner peace and joy. • Did you know that for every negative thing you hear about yourself OR that YOU say to or about yourself (even joking) that your subconscious hears as true? And in order to counteract it, you have to say the opposite/positive about yourself at least three times in a row? It's called the Positivity Ratio. Sounds crazy right?

Think about how many times a day we put ourselves down without thinking, use self-deprecating humor, or inflict self-harm with our worrying thoughts. What about illness? All that fear and worry doesn't help us get well!

Eileen Pease (Dynamic Thinking) says, "When you change your thinking, you can change your feeling." That's pretty powerful!

But how do you stop all that negative programming? Random affirmations, baby! These days, we LIVE BY our affirmations! In notebooks, on mirrors, cork boards and post-its! Today we show you how to do the same in order to create a healthier you, inside and out!

  • Today we’re talking about Invisible Disabilities on CCnDoc Talk. Doc plays devil’s advocate (to prove a point) during this meaningful and sometimes humorous discussion about what IS an Invisible Disability and what BIASES we have that impact our ability to be compassionate and understanding to others who have big things going on in their bodies that the outside world can’t see. We also introduce a syndrome called LARS (lower anterior resection syndrome) in this episode. LARS is a common invisible disability for those who have had surgeries for colorectal cancer, ulcerative colitis and irritable bowel diseases.

  • We’re Back! We took a little break in July to enJOY our summer! Now we’re back with renewed energy and NEW episodes! Ever wonder how to communicate better with your partner? Especially when one or both of you have been in heavy concentration mode (doing your own thing), and you come back together, only to find yourselves disconnected emotionally. You know the drill, something of interest sucks you in and the seconds turn into minutes. Then hours later your partner is balancing on a delicate teeter-totter, not knowing if you are open to being interrupted, if you’re going to surface physically while still in your head, or if your heart will be surfacing as well. If you’re still stuck in your head, how best can and should your partner communicate with you to discuss important daily logistics such as “Who’s cooking dinner?”, “Who’s picking up the kids?”, “Who’s in charge of happy hour?” or “Are we spending any quality time together today?” Although we don’t have a grandiose answer to these questions, listen to how we navigate the discussion of this topic of being in and then emerging from hyper-focused concentration mode on a regular basis! • June is Pride Month! Because there is so much misunderstood about the LGBTQ+ community, we are doing our part to build a bridge of understanding, love and hope by sharing our experiences over the last 21+ years together. People fear what they don’t know or understand. We ask you to seek understanding first. This episode starts off with powerful words from Rachel Held Evans (Christian Minister and former Evangelical) who we've just gotten acquainted with and also are grieving the loss of - she died at the age of 38 in 2019. She was a straight voice for the LGBTQ+ community and she was making such a difference in the minds of Christians and how they view LGBTQ+ individuals. May her words and wishes live on. If you are a straight ally, this podcast will also give you some insight into what it's like to be LGBTQ+ in 2023. Suffice it to say things were going pretty well, and now the tide is turning again - Not everything ends up on the news. Keeping in mind "queer" isn’t one-size-fits-all, and our perspective is just ours, we’re encouraging you to be brave and ask questions of all of your LGBTQ+ friends, relatives and even strangers to really seek to understand what it’s like to be in their shoes. We (all) have more in common than you think! Love IS the answer. What is the question? â€ïžđŸ§ĄđŸ’›đŸ’šđŸ©”đŸ’™đŸ’œđŸ©·đŸ€ŽđŸ–€đŸ©¶đŸ€â€ïžâ€đŸ©č Thank you! đŸłïžâ€đŸŒˆ

  • Welcome to the world according to CCnDoc! How do you stay positive? Lately, it seems like we are getting asked this question a lot, so Doc decided it was time for a podcast on the topic! Good call! Is anyone really positive all the time? No! No one can be positive all the time—It’s something we work on every day, and one of us has to work at it harder than the other! In this episode, we talk about what happens when life throws those curveballs and how you can train your brain to see them in a more positive light.

  • First, some handy hiking tips for all hikers! And, as we hike our way through Arizona and New Mexico on our #UnexpectedRoadtrip (check it out on our social media @CCnDoc), we continue to be surprised, amazed and even dumbfounded at some of the folks we are sharing the trail with. We are admittedly old-school hikers, taught by an even older-school hiker, the etiquette of the trail. Is there such a thing? YES! Further, we live in Colorado where Leave No Trace is a very big deal. Suffice it to say there is a new breed of hiker out there, and they're challenging us!

  • When was the last time you sorted through your phone contacts? If you're like us it's been since we transferred our analog address books to our candy bar phones 20 years ago! Recently Doc set out to go through her phone contacts and get rid of some annoying duplicates that were created by the rivalry between enterprise corporate software and her ios. She had some revelations about herself then and now, and in scaling her contacts from 14,000 to 1400, she had to make some decisions as well as say some goodbyes. Tune in to hear her insights!

  • With such strong cultural influences, when it comes to our health, what really matters and what should we be focusing on? This podcast delves into our psyches and exposes unhealthy thoughts and behaviors around weight and body image. It’s time we stop self-shaming and shaming others based on unrealistic and cookie-cutter standards! Where do these crazy ideas come from?

When CC was feeling her best the scale was up but she had a tumor! They told her not to lose weight during cancer treatment, so she lost 40 pounds! Not on purpose obviously. But, having gone up and down in weight over the years, and finally giving up on the number a few years before; this was quite the mindfuck! So now what happens?

Many of us are guilty of watching the scoreboard instead of the game, in this case, watching the scale instead of our life. The numbers on the scale are only one small indicator of good health. We need to be aware of all of the indicators, this is why watching the scale is a mindfuck.

Even though Doc weighs more than people would think, she has a reputation as someone who can eat anything she wants and stay slender. But behind the scenes one could say she has an unhealthy relationship with the scale, weighing in each day to make sure the numbers are within her personal acceptable range. When the numbers go up, she’s harder on herself than she should be. She always says she does not want to buy a new wardrobe, which begs the question, is it about money or weight?

Of course, it's important to be healthy! It's also important to not feel deprived or to shame yourself into "good behavior". How do we (all) change the way we see ourselves and be in tune enough with our bodies to listen to what they truly need and want on a day-to-day basis, and not be influenced by unrealistic archetypes?

  • WAIT!!! Before you run off thinking this episode doesn’t apply to you, think again! The Cancer Hangover is a metaphor for any major life event, illness or what we call in our book “Courageous Money”, A Life Falls Event. Any event that causes upheaval or major transition in your life qualifies for “hangover” status if you are coming out of the fog and re-adjusting to a new reality!

February 4th was World Cancer Day and we thought it a perfect time to talk about what life after cancer in our household is looking like. Yes, those who are fortunate to be cancer free after their battles have everything to be grateful for, but it doesn’t mean there isn’t sometimes an adjustment period afterward. We call it the “Bewilderment Zone.” A “Where do we go from here?” kind of place where you’re striving to get a foothold on what in many cases is a new, yet undefined you! If you are in a partnership, this can be even more interesting.

Today we are not discussing so much the physical aspects of adjusting to life after cancer because everyone’s cancer journey is different. For instance in CC’s case, lots of extra trips to the bathroom in a day! But rather the emotional aspects. The things that are harder to see but just as important to sort out so you can live bold!

  • Welcome to Season 2 of CCnDoc Talk! A fitting start to the new year and our new season, this podcast focuses on a tool that we call the "Mindfulness Circle", which we created after taking a couple's course through Insight Timer (our favorite meditation app). In the course, they discussed one version of the "Mindfulness Triangle", but true to form that didn’t work for us so we created our own tool! LOL There is no better time than the start of a new year to manifest new habits and practices for a better you!

We discuss how to use the tool and how it can apply to different areas of your life from work to personal goals as well as “coupleness” (mindful couples) and a variety of circumstances from positive to stressful.

Check out the “Freebies” section at our LINK IN BIO for a companion guide to this podcast and a link to your FREE Insight Timer membership!

  • Do you love your family yet struggle with how to keep your sanity during family holidays? Family dynamics can be challenging even for the healthiest of families. Add to that the stress of these last few years of politics and pandemic, which have certainly stretched many family relationships thin, not to mention the crazy phenomenon of regression that occurs the moment you get back into your family unit (once the youngest always the youngest), and trying to accommodate so many different opinions, tastes, routines and desires into a seamless and peaceful gathering. One where you don’t go home saying, WTF?!? Or feel guilty until the next year’s vacay.

Our conversation is unscripted as always so here are our (aspirational) 8 TIPS for a more sane family holiday vacation in a nutshell:

DON’T discuss politics or religion for any reason and be ready to change the subject! We have shirts that say, “Proud Member of the Cocktail Party!” (Available in our CCnDoc Store). This kind of humor diffuses political conversations. DO take time for yourself even if it’s hard to get away! DO be flexible when you can! DO practice mindfulness. Use an app like free Insight Timer to meditate each morning (even 5 minutes can help) before you greet the day and the family at the breakfast table. Eating is also a great time to be mindful. Enjoy every bite, by savoring and chewing your food well, and don’t let the table conversation affect your digestion. DO give genuine compliments and validation freely! DO say please and Thank You even for simple things. DON’T make assumptions whenever possible. Be willing to broach difficult topics with love, compassion and/or humor when possible and seek to understand the other person’s perspective. Unless your opinions on the topic are too strong then
CHOOSE your battles and KEEP YOUR OPINIONS TO YOURSELF! Ask yourself what winning this round is worth to you? How important is it if your sister-in-law loads the dishwasher the wrong way as long as the dishes get done and your brother isn’t pissed off at you for the next year?

Share with us on social media @CCnDoc your tips and tricks for surviving the holiday’s with your family!

  • Well, it’s ABOUT TIME we got back to podcasting after our 6-week #CelebrationRoadTrip (check it out @ccndoc on social media)! In our defense, we had crap reception on the trip and since arriving back home we have spent the last couple of weeks catching up on everything from voting to taxes to medical appointments, fixing and winterizing things around CCnDoc’s On the Rocks. We’re pooped!

WARNING: Harsh words ahead! You may notice a different tone in this Shit Floats podcast, pre-recorded this summer, just after Doc’s retirement. You might detect frustration, sarcasm and even anger at the establishment of corporate America. All great indicators that retirement from corporate America was long overdue! We’re guessing you can relate at this time of the Great Resignation!

Despite our saltiness, there are many pearls of wisdom to be had in this engaging podcast, opportunities for leaders to step up (don’t be a turd), and encouragement and validation for those needing to find a way to swim in or escape the Cesspool.

  • Has anyone ever accused you of being selfish? Do you feel guilt when you set boundaries that preserve your mental health or make time just for you? Do you say yes to obligations and events because you can’t say no? How do we get to a place where we feel good about taking care of ourselves without feeling guilty, especially when we are in relationships? Where is the balance?

In this episode CCnDoc discuss the concepts of selfishness and self love and compare them to other concepts like narcissism and entitlement. They also discuss how communication plays a role in dispelling the perceptions of selfishness and share their 1-10 technique for assessing each individual’s level of interest in activities so that no one feels as if the other person is being selfish.

Speaking of selfish, CCnDoc selfishly took a couple of weeks off from podcasting so that CC could recover from her LAST CRC surgery! Thanks for your indulgence and she’s doing quite well, despite the extra trips to the bathroom until her new short and sassy semi-colon adjusts! Follow her journey on social media @CCnDoc.
