Diane's Story:
I had no idea I was sick, never mind having lung cancer. There were times when I did feel something was not right with my health, but the doctors thought it was all in my head. So, I just continued living life. On December 9th , 2012, I started to get pains in my chest and felt sick to my stomach.
My family thought I was having a heart attack and called 911. I was taken to the emergency room, and it was there after all the tests showing I wasn’t having a heart attack; the doctor informed me that I had a mass in my chest. I cannot find the words to describe how I felt after the ER doctor so nonchalantly gave me the results of the chest x-ray. He then proceeded to give me morphine for the pain and medicine for the nausea. So that was the start of my surreal relationship with lung cancer.
After having a PET scan and a CT Guided Biopsy, I was diagnosed with Primary, Thorax Small
Cell Lung Cancer Stage, IIIA (T3, N2, M0, G2) Lymph-Vascular Invasion in my upper left lung and given the news on January 15, 2013. On January 31, 2013, I had surgery (Lobectomy) to remove the tumor from my upper left lung. Now the treatments begin to lessen the possibility of cancer recurring in my lungs and keep it from spreading to other parts of my body. My first round of chemotherapy in March 2013 almost killed me. The day after my first treatment I had to be
admitted into the hospital because, I was allergic to the chemo drug, cisplatin. I was unable to eat for a week. I was so sick, and my potassium and magnesium level were extremely low. I thought I was going to die. After this incident, I was told there was nothing else they could do for me, so I opted for a second opinion. -

Brian & Jessica Krock are a married couple who live near St. Louis, Missouri. They started on a life-changing whole food, plant-based adventure back in June 2018. This led to a YouTube channel called “Krocks In The Kitchen,” where they have shared plant-based recipes, laughs, tears and so much more over the years.
In June 2022, their lives were flipped upside-down when Jessica was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer at age 36. Treatment would include two major surgeries and six rounds of chemo, but that didn’t stop the couple from pursuing their dream of being parents. In October 2023, they welcomed their first child, a beautiful baby girl, via gestational carrier. Just when it seemed things were settling down, in May 2024, their lives took another major turn when Brian was diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma at age 41.
Even with all of these bumps in the road, they have continued to maintain a (mostly) positive outlook on life and allowed the hard times to strengthen their marriage. They hope to continue spreading positivity in the plant-based community and beyond for years to come. -

JENNIFER'S WORDS:
Wigs R You is my alternative hair shop in Roseville, California. The shop has been serving wig wearers in the community and beyond for 25 years. As its third owner, I’m delighted to help thousands of girls and women suffering from hair loss embrace their new identities. All of our staff at Wigs R You have been personally touched by hair loss. We know the emotional complexity of such a traumatizing experience. Wig wearing is a BIG deal! That’s why we’re the best equipped to guide you through your hair loss journey.
In late 2012, I was diagnosed with breast cancer and soon learned I’d need chemotherapy. I discovered something unique and special during my cancer journey – a beautiful wig shop that was more than just a wig shop. Wigs R You went above and beyond. They gave me the practical solution of hair replacement AND the emotional support one needs when facing hair loss. I quickly realized that I wanted to be a part of such a loving and caring community. I wanted to give back to the medical community in the same way I was cared for.
I took a leap of faith, decided not to go back to my previous line of work, and started working at the boutique in late 2013. Wigs R You is unlike any other wig shop in our area because we cater to the medical side of hair loss. We pride ourselves in whole client support. Our goal is to make sure you walk out of our shop with a beautiful hair piece AND feeling emotionally supported. This type of support isn’t typical for a wig shop. We’re determined to stand apart and be known for our love and compassion in the way we serve our clients.

While not everyone is open to change, it is important for people to at least be advised what they can do to prevent or reverse their medical conditions." -

T. Colin Campbell, PhD has been dedicated to the science of human health for more than 60 years. His primary focus is on the association between diet and disease, particularly cancer. Although largely known for the China Study--one of the most comprehensive studies of health and nutrition ever conducted, and recognized by The New York Times as the “Grand Prix of epidemiology”--Dr. Campbell’s profound impact also includes extensive involvement in education, public policy, and laboratory research.
Dr. Campbell grew up on a dairy farm and was the first in his family to go to college, where he studied pre-veterinary medicine at Pennsylvania State University. After obtaining his bachelor’s degree, and while completing his first year at the University of Georgia veterinary school, he received a telegram from a well known professor at Cornell University, offering a scholarship and research opportunity too good to turn down. And so he completed his education at Cornell University (M.S., Ph.D.) and MIT (Research Associate) in nutrition, biochemistry and toxicology. He then spent 10 years on the faculty of Virginia Tech’s Department of Biochemistry and Nutrition before returning to Cornell in 1975 where he presently holds his Endowed Chair as the Jacob Gould Schurman Professor Emeritus of Nutritional Biochemistry in the Division of Nutritional Sciences.
Dr. Campbell’s research experience includes both laboratory experiments and large-scale human studies. He has received over 70 grant-years of peer-reviewed research funding (mostly with NIH), served on grant review panels of multiple funding agencies, actively participated in the development of national and international nutrition policy, and authored over 350 research papers, most published in peer-reviewed science journals. Throughout his career, he has confronted a great deal of confusion surrounding nutrition and its effects. It is precisely this confusion that he has focused so much on, in recent years.
In order to synthesize the findings of his long and rewarding career, and to give back to the public whose lives are threatened by rampant misinformation and special interests, Dr. Campbell co-wrote The China Study: Startling Implications for Diet, Weight Loss and Long-term Health (2005, 2016), which has sold more than 3 million copies worldwide and has been translated into 50 foreign languages. He is also the author of the The New York Times bestseller Whole (2013), The Low Carb Fraud (2013), and The Future of Nutrition. An Insider's Look at the Science, Why We Keep Getting It Wrong and How to Start Getting It Right (2020). Several documentary films feature Dr. Campbell and his research, including Forks Over Knives, Eating You Alive, Food Matters, and PlantPure Nation. He continues to share evidence-based information on health and nutrition whenever given the opportunity. He has delivered hundreds of lectures around the world and he is the founder of the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies and the online Plant-Based Nutrition Certificate powered by eCornell. -
