  • One of our key discussions revolved around voter preparation. We’ve often heard about voter confusion as a reason for changing votes mid-process. To us, it boils down to preparation.1. Voter Preparedness:

Let's talk about the importance of voters being prepared before heading to the polls. The consensus was clear: If you don't understand what you're voting on, it's better to skip that section of the ballot. This strategy ensures that votes cast are informed rather than arbitrary.

    2. Judicial Appointments and Career Paths:

A significant portion of our discussion centered around the implications of politicizing judicial appointments. We noted that some judges now lack courtroom experience, which is a concerning trend. We also highlighted the unconventional path of a local Columbus councilwoman becoming the county prosecutor, underscoring the necessity for relevant legal experience.

    3. Crime Policies and Political Shifts:

From local issues to national concerns, we talked about the political defeats of figures like George Gascon and recent voter trends towards tougher crime policies. California’s new measure classifying shoplifting as a felony after the third offense is a prime example. This reflects a growing frustration with lenient crime policies in various states.

    4. The Enduring American Spirit:

Our reflections veered into historical territory, noting America's traditional isolationism and how direct attacks like Pearl Harbor and 9/11 have historically elicited fierce responses. We discussed the significance of maintaining foundational governmental structures and processes, emphasizing a respect for the Constitution.

    5. Addressing Current Political Dynamics:

Political endorsements—or the lack thereof—were also on the table. We pondered the actual influence of such endorsements and whether they resonate with voters today. The episode also tackled the latest developments in Donald Trump’s legal battles and the broader implications on his political future.

    6. Electric Vehicles and Market Realities:

The conversation touched on the future of electric vehicles (EVs), emphasizing skepticism about their imminent dominance. We also noted the practical challenges of EVs during power outages and the importance of hybrid vehicles.

    7. Ohio's Political Landscape:

Ohio's political dynamics also made the cut. With the Ohio Supreme Court now having a Republican majority and fluctuating seats in the Ohio House and Senate, we discussed potential policy impacts and candidates for upcoming vacancies.

  • We're excited to talk about our latest episode featuring the insightful Bella Matta. We covered a wide range of topics, from the nitty-gritty of law school to dissecting current political strategies and scrutinizing economic policies.

Bella shared her firsthand experiences as a 2L at Capital Law School. One point that stood out was the emphasis on the Socratic method—a technique that terrifies unprepared students but molds them into sharp legal minds ready to tackle real-world challenges. We also touched on the political dynamics within the classroom; Bella noted that while professors generally steer clear of expressing their political opinions, the students make up for it with their passionate debates.

Shifting gears, Norm didn't hold back when criticizing some current economic policies. He labeled plans like a $50,000 deduction for small businesses and new parent monetary support as ineffective gimmicks. Steve highlighted the potential for exploitation, questioning the efficacy of such financial aids in truly benefiting those in need.

The political arena was, of course, a hot topic. We discussed the legal challenges and perceived political motivations behind proceedings against figures like Trump. Effective strategies for handling debates and biased media questions were emphasized, especially concerning controversial issues like January 6th.

We also had a lively exchange about the influx of Haitian immigrants in Springfield and its impact on local resources. It’s a topic that hits close to home for many Ohioans, illustrating the broader implications of immigration policies on small-town America.

Bella brought a fresh perspective, especially on how younger voters perceive key political issues. While debates may not drastically shift poll numbers, they still play a significant role in shaping public opinion—and it's crucial to be prepared.

We kick things off by talking about why it's crucial to take a clear stand on global conflicts—Russia's in the spotlight this time. Then, we turn to a hot topic closer to home: the tragic shooting of a pregnant woman by a police officer after a shoplifting incident at Kroger. We hash out whether the shooting was justified and what it means for society at large.

We also tackle the polarization of politics and how extreme views are pushing people away from their original affiliations. And don't miss our chat on freedom of speech, with a look at controversial figures like Donald Trump and Alex Jones getting their social media accounts back.

  • A question from a CSO listener we thought deserved its own episode for a response - thanks Belinda!

I would love to hear a talk about American idols. Historically, who did Americans idolize? Or perhaps more appropriately, who did we hold in high regard and love and respect? Today, there is dysfunctional idolization of the Kardashians. What did they do to deserve to be treated like national treasures? I heard someone say once they are America's royalty. What??? I will not take your time to get on my soapbox about that one. And what is the purpose of those pulling the media strings to make us believe we must wait with bated breath to know when the last loving glance between Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce occurred? Is it a psyop to garner votes for Biden from a certain demographic, or to distract us from what matters? As an aside, because of the "plandemic" I have been introduced to countless Americans I have grown to admire, love and respect through their podcasts. These are "my people" who have helped lessen the feelings of being alone during the insanity that has ensued since 2020. There are so many including my many "sheep" friends unable to see the truth.

  • This is an interview we had with J.D. Vance during his run-up to winning the U.S. Senate seat, representing Ohio.

And now, he's Trump's running mate for the 2024 Presidential election for the G.O.P.

J.D. Vance is the author of Hillbilly Elegy. It's his memoir, written about his upbringing and his transition into adulthood and into Yale Law School, after a very difficult, very challenging upbringing and child in poverty.

With Appalachian, Scots-Irish culture, you say he grew up in anything but traditional. And that's true for professional class people. He's anything but traditional in that sense. There are so many people who are impoverished in West Virginia, in Appalachia, Ohio, and in Kentucky, that for them, it's a lifestyle that the rest of us are unaware of. And J.D'.s book really brings that to the forefront. It's a remarkable insight into that culture.

And then he attends Yale Law School, where he had to learn the whole new elite language. He has incorporated his background, his upbringing, and what he has seen in both worlds and come to a really solid foundational philosophy on government, on society, on America.

We know you'll learn more about J.D. in the short time we get to talk with him.

The stakes in the Ukraine conflict are high, and Steve, Norm, and Brett don’t shy away from expressing concerns about the use of American munitions and the potential escalation into a larger conflict.
