    Hey Pickles!

We hope this episode finds you well.

Fair warning: There is talk of animal abuse in this episode.

Our Main Topic this week is the incredible investigation done by Animal Rising into the fraud that is the RSPCA Assurance Scheme. The RSPCA is supposed to be looking out for the welfare of animals, but has fraudulently approved the conditions on many farms in England and Scotland. Through the brave investigative work of Animal Rising, these farms have been found to have deplorable conditions. They found sick and dying animals, animals in overcrowded and confined conditions, and a multitude of severe infractions to the very laws that the RSPCA is supposed to be upholding.

We urge you to read their thorough report here: https://www.animalrising.org/_files/ugd/80f7b1_312aaf59f84e462fa13ae8d355c2cf02.pdf
Watch their video on the investigation here: https://youtu.be/OfM5VRMl7wk?si=ugxeciX0vfLisytv

Our Noteworthy segment is a much lighter subject. We talk about the recent news that competitive eater, Joey Chestnut was disqualified from the famous Nathan's hot dog eating contest after he took a sponsorship from a vegan brand.

    Hey Pickles!

    We hope you're well.
This week we bring. you some fun facts about cucumbers in our Noteworthy segment. You know we love cucumbers. Hey! It's in our name!

We have a new Listener recipe from Listener, Sarah W. It's Loaded Greek Falafel French Fries!
Here's her recipe, if you would like to make it for yourself!
    Sarah Woodard’s Greek Falafel Fries

I figured this out trying to recreate one of my favorite delivery items because $30 for one dinner gets nuts quickly!

    Ingredients:

Frozen fries. I like the “golden fries” size for this. Read packages! You wouldn’t believe how many brands have potato as the LAST ingredient 🤦🏻‍♀️

Cabbage - buy whole or pre-chopped

1 3-oz can of sliced black olives (as you’ve told us before, read the ingredients to be sure they’re actually vegan)

Hummus (oddly, some brands of hummus aren’t vegan either, so be careful…)

Falafel balls (I again like the Franklin Farms ones)

Banana peppers (as with olives, read to be sure they’re vegan)

    Directions:

Prepare a serving of frozen fries per the package instructions (or be like me and play around with microwaving them)

    Ditto on the falafel balls

Chop cabbage - however much you want.

When fries are cooked, top with the chopped cabbage, hummus, olives, falafel balls, olives, and banana peppers

    Serve and eat

For a variation, if you can find vegan feta that would be fun, too!

    ENJOY! 😀

Our Main Topic is Vegan Headlines That Make Us Go GRRRRR. There's a ton of misinformation out there about veganism & plant based eating. We'll share some headlines & articles that just might make you a little miffed!

We have a new Vegan Org of the Week: Generation Vegan!
Lear more about their work here: https://genv.org

We also have a new tip To Help You Help Others to Go Vegan & Stay Vegan!

All that and a healthy dose of our usual shenanigans!

    Hey Pickles!

This week's episode is coming to you from the path of totality! Did you see the solar eclipse? We had cloud cover so only got to experience the darkness, then saw some of the end of the eclipse. It was fascinating regardless!

This week we're reviewing the documentary, The Smell of Money. This film takes you to North Carolina where the fight against Smithfield hog "farming" operations are poisoning the people who live near these horrific facilities.

The documentary follows the lives and struggles of several residents as they take Smithfield to court in an attempt to stop the poisoning of their land, water and the air that they breathe.

We highly recommend that you watch this film for yourself, and share it with anyone you know that consumes animals. so that they can better understand the human cost of supporting the animal farming industry.
Here is a link to the film. You will have to rent it. https://youtu.be/-qYiDKkV5Dg?si=oU3d2hyXvTmn0cxw
