Are traditional coaching models becoming obsolete in the age of AI and increasingly personalised approaches? In this episode of The Coaching Hub, I explore how the coaching landscape is evolving and ask whether well-known models like GROW, CLEAR, and OSCAR still hold their place in a world where AI can already replicate structured conversations.
I reflect on my own journey with these frameworks and why they continue to matter, particularly as foundational tools for newer coaches building confidence and structure in their practice. At the same time, I share the growing shift towards more individualised, relational coaching that moves beyond rigid models and into deeper, more human-centred work.
Weâll look at the balance between structure and flexibility, the limitations of a âone-size-fits-allâ or âsausage machineâ approach, and what it really means to create transformational impact for clients today. If youâre thinking about how to evolve your coaching style and stay relevant in a changing industry, this episode offers a clear, honest perspective on whatâs next.
Whatâs inside:Why traditional coaching models like GROW, CLEAR, and OSCAR are still widely used but increasingly questionedHow coaching model training provides confidence and structure for new coachesThe limitations of rigid, model-first approaches, especially given individual client needs and neurodiversityWhy AI can easily coach using models, making transactional, model-based coaching less distinctiveThe importance of moving toward more personalised, relational, and flexible coaching frameworksHow organisational settings may still benefit from a model-led approach for consistency and easeWhy effective coaching now centres on tailoring the experience to each client, fostering true transformation and awareness.Like, comment, follow and subscribe for more inspiring conversations on growth and professional development.

How can you help clients who are neurodiverse? In this episode, I share my personal journey with ADHD to explore why recognising and embracing neurodivergence matters for both individuals and coaches. I reflect on how my experiences in education and personal development shaped my belief in a more inclusive, strengths-based approach that celebrates different ways of thinking.
I also break down what truly makes coaching effective for neurodivergent clients: personalisation, flexibility, and authentic connection. While specialist training can enhance a coachâs skills, great coaching is always rooted in client-centred practice. Plus, I discuss the importance of creating a safe, supportive space, especially for those who may not yet identify as neurodivergent or feel ready to share it.
Whatâs inside:
How understanding and embracing different brain types is key for creating a personalised and affirming coaching experience.Great coaching for neurodivergent clients is built on personalisation, relationships, and being client-centered, rather than following rigid models.Knowledge of neurodiversity can enhance your coaching, but foundational skills in empathy and flexibility are essential.Coaches should be trained, accredited, and open to feedback, while avoiding âone-size-fits-allâ methods when supporting neurodiverse clients.Key topics covered:

Coaching skills have become a fundamental requirement for effective leadership â thatâs the key focus of this latest podcast episode with me, Ruth Kudzi. Drawing from my background in management and leadership development, I highlight how research consistently supports the coaching style as the most effective form of leadership. Despite this, there remains a gap in many workplaces, with numerous leaders still untrained in essential coaching competencies - a missed opportunity that can hinder both individual and organisational growth.
I explore the evolving role of leaders, noting that it's no longer just about managing tasks but about supporting teams on both an emotional and cognitive level. By embracing a coaching approach, leaders can empower team members, build autonomy, and reduce their own mental load.
I also offer actionable advice for leaders, encouraging an audit of current practices, integrating coaching conversations into everyday interactions, and shifting from judgment to curiosity.
Whatâs inside:
How coaching skills are strongly linked to effective leadership, yet many leaders lack this vital trainingLeaders who coach foster more autonomy, responsibility, and engagement within their teams, reducing their own cognitive loadCoaching skills help leaders listen better, notice details, and empower others to share ideas and take initiativeIntegrating psychology and neuroscience into coaching enables self-management, emotional regulation, and role modeling of effective leadershipGreat leadership requires asking rather than assuming.Key topics covered:

Coaching sessions are all about the goal, right? Not always! In this episode of The Coaching Hub Podcast, I challenge the traditional notion that coaching conversations must revolve around goals. Instead, I advocate for a more holistic, individualised coaching style that places the client's personal growth and motivation at the centre.
I explore the concepts of extrinsic and intrinsic motivation, highlighting how clients find meaning and drive in different ways. I encourage coaches to shift their focus from performance-based targets to understanding what energises their clients, whether that's external rewards or finding genuine enjoyment in the process itself.
Rather than sticking to rigid goal-setting frameworks like SMART goals, I share how to use visioning techniques, metaphors, and images to help clients identify their "North Star." After all, the best coaches create spaces for meaningful exploration, allowing clients to define success in their own terms and experience lasting motivation.
Whatâs inside:
Only about 20% of people are motivated by goals, so focusing solely on goal-led coaching can miss the majority of clientsExploring both extrinsic (external rewards) and intrinsic (personal enjoyment) motivation helps clients understand what drives themIdentifying what energises clients, beyond motivation, can guide more personalised and effective coaching conversationsThe best coaches are flexible and adaptable, creating a personalised experience that puts client growth at the centreThe misconception that all coaching conversations must be goal-oriented.Key Topics Covered:

Ever wondered how coaching sessions actually change your brain? In this episode of The Coaching Hub, I explore the fascinating interplay between neuroscience and coaching. If youâre a coach or simply curious about how transformation happens on a neural level, this episode is packed with insight into whatâs really going on in the brain during coaching and how you can use this understanding to create lasting change for your clients.
I break down what neuroscience truly is (spoiler: itâs not just about the brain, but the entire nervous system), and why a whole-person lens is vital for results. Discover why psychological safety and genuine connection are foundational for opening up cognitive capacity in the brain, and how subtle shifts from positive emotions to grounding exercises prime clientsâ brains for learning and growth.
Youâll learn about the science of neuroplasticity, the importance of repetition and practice in forming new neural pathways, and how stress, environment, and coaching structures can either hinder or accelerate change. Plus, I share practical tools you can use to help clients build insight, take meaningful action, and literally rewire their reactions, habits, and perspectives.
Whatâs inside:
How the brain and nervous system work together in coachingWhy psychological safety and trust are essential for changeSimple ways to help clients (and yourself) enter brain-friendly statesThe role of neuroplasticity and why forming new habits takes timeHow dopamine, oxytocin, and positive affect supercharge learningActionable questions and strategies to reinforce neural growth after sessionsPractical insights on regulating stress and supporting client agency.Key Topics Covered:

Many believe that coaching is all about setting goals, but in this episode of The Coaching Hub, I turn that assumption on its head. If youâve ever felt stuck, overwhelmed, or pressured by rigid performance targets, youâll love these insights on making coaching truly transformational. This episode is for coaches, aspiring practitioners, and anyone passionate about growth, self-awareness, and meaningful progress.
I challenge the idea that goals always drive coaching - actually, only about 20% of people are motivated by them. Instead of linear models and tangible SMART goals, I encourage a focus on growth, awareness, and insight-driven coaching and share how facilitating self-discovery rewires neural pathways and helps clients thrive, especially those who donât know what they want, or feel overwhelmed by career or life pressures.
Whatâs Inside:
Why coaching isnât just about goal-settingThe power of growth-focused, insight-driven sessionsStrategies for working with clients who are stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure what they wantUnderstanding the difference between direction, outcomes, and tangible goalsThe risks of âfalse goalsâ that donât resonate, especially in business coachingHow autonomy, agency, and self-discovery are key to coaching successWhy person-centric, holistic frameworks drive real transformation.Key Topics Covered:

How can coaches support mindset shifts that truly stick, rather than relying on willpower alone? In this episode of The Coaching Hub, I explore the real psychology behind lasting change and why compassion, awareness, and understanding beliefs are far more effective than simply âtrying harder.â
Exploring why popular advice about motivation and positive affirmations rarely lead to sustainable transformation, and instead often result in feelings of frustration and self-blame, I lay out a clear approach for coaches to help clients dig beneath the surface, identifying the core beliefs that drive behaviour. Using practical metaphors (like the belief tree), I show how to get to the roots of unhelpful patterns, understand where they come from, and gently guide clients in rewiring their self-perceptions, one small action at a time.
Whatâs Inside:
Why willpower and motivation arenât enough for real mindset changeHow core beliefs shape our identity and behavioursThe âbelief treeâ exercise for uncovering and re-patterning limiting thoughtsPractical tools for making change safe, achievable, and sustainable for clientsHow to gently challenge unhelpful beliefs and introduce new possibilitiesThe role of daily rituals and celebrating small winsSafety, compassion, and understanding nervous system responses in changeSupporting clients when motivation falters and reframing setbacks as part of the processKey Topics Covered:
00:00 Introduction: Why willpower isnât the whole story in mindset shifts
01:00 Present-focused coaching: exploring beliefs, beyond wishful thinking
01:30 How beliefs are formed, take root, and shape our choices
02:13 Personal stories illustrating the power of identity
03:38 The brainâs filters: reinforcing and ignoring evidence
04:27 Linking beliefs to behaviors and outcomes
04:44 The belief tree: a practical exercise for coaches
06:48 Origin stories: how past experiences shape current mindset
07:46 Letting go of outdated beliefs and fostering emotional release
08:23 Moving from willpower to true understanding and change
09:34 Coaches as detectives: helping clients discover new perspectives
10:01 Neuroplasticity and building new beliefs, one action at a time
11:02 Why new habits take time (and why discomfort is okay!)
12:08 The role of compassion when motivation wanes
13:46 Keeping action safe, honouring nervous system limits in change
