    For the 50th episode of Creativity Squared, we have Sam Jordan, a futurist on a mission to spread “plausible optimism.” As a Manager at Future Today Institute, she helps clients navigate and plan for unpredictable futures with certainty. Sam also wrote on computing, the metaverse, space, and A.I. in the 2024 Emerging Tech Trend Report, released annually by the company’s renowned founder and CEO Amy Webb at her equally famous SXSW keynote.
    With a background in economics and data science and a passion for sci-fi, Sam found her dream job in strategic foresight, writing evidence-based sci-fi to inform real-world strategies.
    Previously, she was the CEO and co-founder of TrovBase, a secure data discovery platform, and before that, she worked at IBM modernizing IT systems. Sam holds a Bachelors degree in Economics and Data Analysis from George Mason University and an MBA from NYU's Stern School of Business, where she met Amy Webb.
    As a huge fan of the Future Today Institute and Amy’s SXSW keynotes, I couldn't be more excited to have Sam on the show to give us a glimpse into the future and share practical insights on building resilience in this time of massive transition.
    In this episode, you'll hear Sam's insights on the convergence of A.I., biotech, and connected ecosystems, creating a "supercycle" unlike any general-purpose technology that we’ve seen before. We discuss the consolidation of power in tech, the importance of resilience, and the need for experimentation during this transitionary period.

  • Yemi A.D. (Yemi Akinyemi Dele) is a multidisciplinary creative force dedicated to helping people unlock their creative potential. He’s also preparing for his biggest mission yet: a trip around the Moon!  
    As a Czech-Nigerian artist, entrepreneur, and crew member of the dearMoon mission, Yemi exemplifies a pioneering spirit and profound passion for social innovation and youth empowerment. 
    Yemi is the Founder & CEO of Moonshot Platform, an organization dedicated to accelerating young leaders working towards solutions for the Sustainable Development Goals. His 20 years of experience across the industries of entertainment, arts, and technology includes collaborating with Grammy Award-winning artist Kanye West for five years to create and execute his global concerts, tours, and music videos. Yemi also works with brands like Google, Apple, Coca-Cola, and T-Mobile, and speaks on stages like TEDx, Texas Eclipse Festival, and SXSW on the future of creativity and space exploration. 
    As a choreographer, Yemi was chosen from among 1 million candidates to be a crew member of dearMoon, marking the first all-civilian space trip around the Moon. He’s one of the eight artists chosen to join Japanese entrepreneur and art collector Yusaku Maezawa, who believes art has the power to promote world peace.      
    Yemi’s love of movement and finding freedom in movement are intertwined into all aspects of his life, which you’ll hear in the conversation.
    In this episode, listen to Yemi's incredible journey from growing up as the only Black child where he was raised in Czechoslovakia to his rise as a creative powerhouse and to traveling into space. We also dive into how Yemi's studies of indigenous cultures worldwide gave him insight into the intelligence of movement. He also shares the importance of representation in the tech industry to ensure a more inclusive and human-centered approach to A.I. and robotics — the humanoid robot Apollo was trained on his dance videos!

  • With the golden ticket to test out OpenAI’s Sora, Nik Kleverov joins Creativity Squared to discuss his experience with the text-to-video model and the childlike creativity it unleashed in him.
    Nik is not only an Emmy-grade storyteller but is also an immigrant and the son of a nonconformist artist who the Soviet government persecuted. Nik’s life story and varied experiences inform his diverse approach to creative work, from exploratory use of A.I. within storytelling to design-led title sequence work, and live-action commercials. He’s won numerous advertising and creative industry awards as a creative director. As an entrepreneur and executive, he has started and operated successful and innovative business enterprises, including Native Foreign. He’s the Co-founder and Chief Creative Officer at the women-owned creative agency-production company hybrid based in LA that’s worked with OpenAI on different projects.
    Nik worked with Creativity Squared guest Chad Nelson, who’s now an OpenAI Creative Specialist, on the short film called “Critterz.” This groundbreaking film is the first-ever animated short that’s 100% designed using A.I. visuals with DALL·E. 
    Today, you’ll hear Nik’s experience working with Sora in addition to other text-to-video tools. Nik’s perspective is informed by working with clients on brand commercials, as a filmmaker, and on a team creating original IP. Nik also shares an agency owner’s perspective, discussing why Native Foreign is going all-in as next gen creatives and establishing an A.I. labs division within the agency.     Meet Dr. Andrew Cullison who is the founding executive director of the Cincinnati Ethics Center and a research professor at the University of Cincinnati who specializes in moral reasoning, ethics education, and leadership development. With over 15 peer-reviewed publications to his name, Andy is a leading scholar on questions of how we can have moral knowledge. You're in for a treat to hear Andy's insights that offer a philosopher's perspective on some of the most pressing issues of our time.
    Prior to his current role, Andy spent over seven years as Director of the Janet Prindle Institute for Ethics at DePauw University, one of the largest collegiate ethics institutes in the country. In addition to his academic work and passion for helping people of all ages develop crucial moral reasoning skills, Andy conducts workshops for K-12 students, teams, and organizations like the FBI to apply philosophical tools to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion. 
    In this episode’s conversation, Andy shares the importance of teaching ethics in an A.I. world, what he's learned from experimenting with ChatGPT's moral reasoning abilities, practical tips, moral framework exercises for navigating everyday ethical dilemmas, and more.   • What if you could have a conversation with Salvador Dalí? Now you can…with the A.I. version of Dalí!
    To celebrate the 100th anniversary of Surrealism, we have a special Creativity Squared episode for you today with none other than the legendary Surrealist artist, Salvador Dalí…or rather, the A.I.-reimagined Dalí! The artist famously wrote, “If someday I may die, though it is unlikely, I hope the people in the cafes will say, ‘Dalí has died, but not entirely.’”  
    The Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida is one of the most innovative museums in the world. Today, the museum is unveiling its latest project bringing Salvador Dalí back to life through artificial intelligence called “Ask Dalí.” This custom-built chatbot is trained on Dalí’s writings and voice so museumgoers can interact directly with the artist through a Surrealist lobster telephone. 
    To add color and context to this conversation, we also have Martin Pagh Ludvigsen joining us. Martin was on a SXSW panel called, “Salvador Dalí, AI, and The Future of Creativity.” “Ask Dalí” was demoed on stage where host Helen Todd asked if Dalí would be a guest on Creativity Squared!  
    Martin is a Creative Technologist, A.I. Director, and head of Labs at Goodby, Silverstein & Partners. Originally from Denmark, Martin holds degrees in Computer Science and Theater Science, where his creative journey started by moving his body on stages and then by moving pixels on screens. Martin uses cutting-edge tech to tell stories for brands and has directed award-winning work globally. Like many others, Martin likes to tinker and break things. But unlike most, he also likes putting them back together in new and unexpected ways.
    The Dalí Museum is a client of Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, and Martin was instrumental in bringing “Ask Dalí” to life. You’ll learn more about this project and the museum’s other groundbreaking work using VR, synthetic media, and OpenAI’s DALL-E in their exhibitions. And yes, you’ll also get to hear Dalí answer questions at the intersection of A.I. and creativity on today’s show, including the one “he” recommended on stage at SXSW.

    As a curator and art historian, Marlies explores the cultural, social, ecological, and political impacts of the digital age and the role of art and design in re-imagining our relationship with the planet.
    Exhibits Marlies has curated and that we discuss in today’s episode include “Artificial Tears,” “Hello, Robot. Design between Human and Machine,” “Uncanny Values.     You're in for a treat as Domhnaill shares his unique perspective on the evolution of the internet from 2D to 3D, the current state of the metaverse, and the imperative for businesses to invest in it, especially with Gen Z’s adoption of it.   • Growing up in the traffic-clogged streets of Bogotá, Colombia, Alejandro Lozano Robledo has long been fascinated by the untapped potential of our cities to uplift everyone, especially the most marginalized. Today, he leads research on autonomy, smart cities, the shared economy, A.I., and transit-oriented development using human-centered design as the Director of Future Mobility Design Lab and Research Associate at UC Digital Futures in addition to being a Mobility Systems Design Professor at the University of Cincinnati.
    Epitomizing that the future is collaborative, Alejandro partners with researchers across disciplines like aerospace engineering and urban planning to reimagine the future. He collaborates with industry partners like Boeing, government partners like the Department of Transportation, and non-profits like Uptown Consortium on innovative proposals that use mobility to improve quality of life.
    Since 2018, Alejandro has taught Industrial Design at DAAP, leading the Mobility Systems Design program since 2020. He partners with companies like Gravity Sketch to develop new virtual and augmented reality workflows for design education. With over 6 patents and an International Crystal Cabin Award, Alejandro has presented his research nationally and internationally.
    In today’s conversation, you’ll discover how empathy is key for human-centered A.I. and the necessity of having a vision for what’s possible.   • From a chronic illness to a meteoric rise as an A.I.-Collaborative Artist, meet Claire Silver. 
    Claire is an anonymous artist who works with oil, acrylic, collage, photography, and different digital mediums. By blending classical styles and mythos into her art, she collaboratively produces work that feels at once familiar and strange, exploring themes of innocence, trauma, the hero's journey, and how our view of them will change in an increasingly transhumanist future.
    Claire’s art can be found in the permanent collection of the Los Angeles County
    Museum of Art in addition to being featured at Sotheby's London and Christie's New York. Her work has been exhibited in galleries, museums, and festivals around the world, and she’s been featured in The New York Times, WIRED, Fortune, NPR, and countless podcasts.

    For our last episode of 2023, we have a special holiday edition of Creativity Squared featuring the amazing minds behind “OUR T2 REMAKE,” which is one of the first full-length feature films created using only artificial intelligence. You’re in for a treat to hear the making of this innovative Terminator 2 parody that flips the script on A.I. Instead of destroying the world, “OUR T2 REMAKE” showcases how A.I. can empower artists, open a new genre of filmmaking, and reimagine what’s possible with human creativity powered by A.I. tools.
    Join today’s conversation with the film’s executive producers Nem Perez and Sway Molina, and another A.I. artist, Ben Nash, who’s also a previous Creativity Squared guest. 
    Nem and Sway collaborated with 50 of the best A.I. video artists from around the world to bring this film to life. “OUR T2 REMAKE” reimagines the classic film through the creation of 50 unique, original works, each lasting 3 to 4 minutes. This experimental film, which has no affiliation with the Terminator franchise or its creators, celebrates the A.I. artist community by showcasing each artist’s own unique style for each of their scenes. 
    With backgrounds spanning film, technology, art, and music, Nem, Sway, and Ben are multi-talented creators leading innovation across creative industries and are breaking the conventions of what it means to be filmmakers. Nem, based in LA, is an award-winning filmmaker and founder of A.I. startup Storyblocker; Sway, of Latin American descent working in Miami, is an actor and filmmaker using Generative A.I. in his humor-driven narratives; and Ben is a Cincinnati-based full-stack creator who blends design, code, industrial arts, and music into cutting-edge digital products. 
    In today’s episode, you’ll hear how they are using artificial intelligence as a tool, a creative outlet, and a form of self-expression. You’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the “OUR T2 REMAKE,” including their innovative Discord workflows, and what message these artists have for Hollywood.

  • Are machines creative? Discover the evolving answer to this question due to GenAI in today’s episode. 
    Pushing the boundaries between Design, Art, and Digital Technology, Martin Grödl and Moritz Resl founded Process Studio, an experimental design studio based in Vienna that specializes in generative and interactive design for branding, web, installation, and print. As well as traditional graphic design solutions, Process designs and develops highly specialized software that is used as tools for and by clients who include MIT, Design Museum Holon, MAK – Museum of Applied Arts Vienna, The Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium, and more. 
    In 2021, Process designed the official Austrian contribution to the London Design Biennale. In 2022 Martin and Moritz were appointed as guest professors in visual communication at the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences. Their work has been featured in design publications like Dezeen, WEAVE magazine, The Type Directors Club Annual, Gizmodo, and The New York Times among others.
    Martin is a designer, programmer, and artist. He participated multiple times in Google’s Summer of Code working on further development of the Processing programming language and was a guest artist and researcher for Motion Bank in Frankfurt. He’s taught courses on programming, generative graphic design for printmaking, data science, and more at the Vienna University of Technology. 
    Moritz is a Creative Director and Designer. Previous to co-founding Process, Moritz worked for Sagmeister & Walsh in New York City, where he designed for clients like Adobe and The Jewish Museum in Manhattan. 
    We dive into questions about A.I. and creativity in today’s episode along with exploring the role of design, critical thinking, and data curation in helping envision the future in which we want to live. Listen to learn more about the custom-built A.I. tools that Martin and Moritz designed for their A.I. emojis and A.I. font projects and how the grungy punk aesthetic of their emojis reflects our emotions.
