The son of a virtual world designer goes looking for his father and ends up inside the digital world that his father designed. He meets his father’s corrupted creation and a unique ally who was born inside the digital world.
Tron Legacy is one of the best cyberpunk films of this century. It holds a special place in my heart because I showed this film to my 4-year-old son back in 2011 and it became one of the first films that he obsessed over. We watched it dozens of times together and I was shocked by how much more I loved it watching HIM experience it through his eyes. It made the film that much more poignant, especially with the father/son angle in the film. This is one of the first cyberpunk films I remember watching as a little kid. I remember being dazzled by the otherworldly raw special effects of cyberspace, thinking about how cool it would be to be zapped into my favorite video game (I always wanted to be in Space Quest and travel the universe with Roger Wilco and the Pirates of Pestulon). This was the debut film of George Lucas before he created Star Wars. It is a protopunk masterpiece that was the primer for the rest of Lucas’ career as a filmmaker. It delves into all of the hallmarks of cyberpunk before it’s official designation – dystopian society, mind control, drug abuse, cyborgs, cassette futurism. It has a little bit of everything and it paved the way for future of science fiction. This film might be the most insane B-movie cyberpunk action film ever made. There are more bullets fired in this film than in any film I’ve seen. Albert Pyun, who we already went over with on Cyborg, returns to his favorite sub-genre and delivers some amazing thrills and action set-pieces. You just have to see it to believe it! Trust me, there are parts in this movie that you can’t unwatch! A martial artist hunts a killer in a plague-infested urban dump of the future.
This is the ultimate guilty-pleasure movie of my childhood that I watched a million times on VHS. JCVD fighting guys in a post-apocalyptic future with cyberpunk vibes and his modified paint-ball gun was the greatest thing these eyes had ever seen in 1989. I watched it so much that I memorized every cut, every poorly delivered line of dialogue, every fight, and every slow motion kill. There is a big difference between A and B-grade cyberpunk films, and Cyborg is at the top of the B-movie catalog. It’s so freakin good.

A cyborg policewoman and her partner hunt a mysterious and powerful hacker called the Puppet Master.
This is the first anime movie I ever saw as a teenager and it blew my mind. Unlike Akira, which has some thematic elements of cyberpunk, Ghost in the Shell bleeds the cyber and the punk in every goddamn frame. It is a glorious representation of the sub-genre and it belongs among the very top of the cyberpunk catalog.

In this week’s episode, I will be breaking-down the 1993 cyberpunk action/comedy film, Demolition Man – directed by Marco Brambilla, written by Peter Lenkov, Robert Reneau, and Daniel Waters; and starring Sylvester Stallone, Wesley Snipes, Sandra Bullock and Denis Leary.A police officer is brought out of suspended animation in prison to pursue an old ultra-violent nemesis who is loose in a non-violent future society.
This movie is so much goddamn fun as it pairs two of the biggest stars of the era, Stallone and Snipes, as they battle each other across time. This the most 90-iest bombastic cyberpunk film of that period that is pure 100-percent running on adrenaline and creatine! You could hear the neck-veins pop out of Stallone chiseled body, and Snipes just unleashes his inner cartoon villain. And did I mention it’s also really fucking funny?
So, do me a favor – it’s time to access your cranial jacks, boot up your Ono-Sendai Cyberspace 7, and slap on your damn mirror-shades. You know what time it is! Cyberpunk Cinema starts…now!

This movie absolutely rocks! It’s one of Arnold’s better films that no one really talks about. The dystopian cyberpunk vibes are high on this bad boy, as Ben Richards, the Butcher of Bakersfield, must survive a rigged TV game show that has captured the hearts and minds of the future America of 2017. Chased by “stalkers”, the game show contestants can earn their freedom and get a pardon, if they don’t die first.So, do me a favor – it’s time to access your cranial jacks, boot up your Ono-Sendai Cyberspace 7, and slap on your damn mirror-shades.
