This week, it’s a movie dear to our hearts – it’s Lilo and Stitch!
This 2002 movie is a tale of a young girl's close encounter with the galaxy's most-wanted extraterrestrial. Lilo is a lonely Hawaiian girl who can’t seem to do anything right. Then, when she goes to adopt a new dog, she gets more than she bargained for with he turns out to be an experimental creature from space! She names him Stitch and teaches him what it means to be part of her 'ohana, the Hawaiian concept of family. In time, Lilo helps unlock Stitch's heart and gives him the ability to care for someone else.
So come along with us on a Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride that’s going to take you... Deep in the Plus!
Stitch is such an amazing character, and while everyone knows him, when was the last time you watched this classic animated movie? After the first movie, there were a series of direct-to-video sequels and a TV series, but none of them come close to the quality of the original.
This week, we're joined by Maleko McDonnell, host of "Good Morning Hawaii" and a big fan of the film. Maleko offers some amazing insights into the care and details that Disney took into making this movie feel authentic to the Hawaiian setting.

Once again, we're going Deep in the Plus!
This week, we're excited to bring you the 1977 musical, “Pete's Dragon“!
Elliott, a magical dragon, causes chaos in a small New England fishing village when he tries to help a young orphan, Pete, escape from his evil foster parents. Pete finds a new home with a kind lighthouse keeper named Nora, played by Helen Reedy. Nora and her father Lampie, played by Mickey Rooney, take in Pete with open arms while helping Elliott avoid the clutches of the greedy Dr. Terminus who wants to exploit him.
It's pure Disney magic! So, climb aboard this magical dragon and ride with us as we go Deep in the Plus!

Whether you love the classic songs like "Candle on the Water" or you grew up watching the Elliott float in the Main Street Electrical parade, most people who have watched this movie have been captivated by its charm.

We're back and venturing once more into the deep!
Each week on Deep in the Plus, we pull a different movie or TV show from the Disney plus vault and tell you the history, the details, give our review and tell you if it’s worth your time.
This week, we have a classic for you, the very first Disney movie to star Haley Mills – it’s Pollyanna!
A young orphan Pollyanna, played by Hayley Mills, believes life's most difficult problems can always be surmounted by a positive attitude. But when she moves in with her very proper Aunt Polly, played by Jane Wyman, Pollyanna is introduced to a range of disheartened people who challenge her upbeat outlook.
Not to be discouraged, she sets to work spreading hope and good cheer. However, when the entire community begins a campaign in opposition to her aunt, Pollyanna's goodwill is strained.
So travel back to a simpler time as we experience an American classic and we take you deep in the plus.
Pollyanna
While this was the first Disney movie for Haley Mills, she went on to star in some unforgettable films for the company such as The Parent Trap, In Search of the Castaways, Summer Magic and That Darn Cat!
In the 1980s, she also came back to reprise her role as the twins, Susan and Sharon, in Parent Trap II and again in Parent Trap III! I can only hope we get a chance to see these on Disney+ someday.

This is Deep in the Plus! Every Friday night, we screen a new film or TV show on Disney+ and go over its history, details, and let you know if we think it’s worth a watch. This week, we review the 2006 football drama based on a true story, Invincible, starring Mark Wahlberg.
Picture it: the year is 1976, the city is Philadelphia, and things are looking grim for our protagonist Vince Papale (Wahlberg). After his wife dumps him and he loses his teaching job, the 30-year-old seems to be lost.
A truly unprecedented event occurs when the new coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, Dick Vermeil (Greg Kinnear), announces that they will have open tryouts for the team. Will this opportunity give Vince the chance to turn his life around?
Invincible
Disney is no stranger to true-life sports dramas celebrating underdogs such as McFarland USA, Miracle, Remember the Titans, and Glory Road. While this movie did not make a huge splash at the box office, it did pull in a respectable $58.5 Million, and I would definitely count it among the better films in this genre.
The cast, which also includes Elizabeth Banks, Michael Rispoli from The Sopranos, and House of Cards actor Michael Kelly is strong, and the story has a lot of heart. However, despite it being touted as a true story, Disney definitely took more than a few liberties with the details to play up the drama.

Welcome to Deep in the Plus!
In this 1993 live-action retelling of Alexandre Dumas' classic tale, D'Artagnan (played by Chris O'Donnell) travels to Paris hoping to become a musketeer, one of the French king's elite bodyguards, only to discover that they've been disbanded by Cardinal Richelieu (played by Tim Curry). The Cardinal secretly hopes to take the throne for himself.
Fortunately, Athos (Kiefer Sutherland), Porthos (Oliver Platt) and Aramis (Charlie Sheen) have refused to lay down their weapons and continue to protect their king.

Three Musketeers
These stars were possibly at the heights of their careers when they joined forced for this film. Kiefer Sutherland, Charlie Sheen, Chris O'Donnell and Oliver Platt do a great job coming together as an on-screen team. Yet, this movie seems to have missed the mark with audiences as it only made $54 million at the box office and received very lukewarm ratings from critics.

Welcome to Episode 14 of the Deep in the Plus Saga…
Here’s where we go into the Disney+ catalog and take an in-depth look at some of the movies and TV shows that you haven’t gotten around to yet, and we break them down to see if they’re worth your time.
This week, in honor of May the 4th and Revenge of the Fifth – It’s Phineas and Ferb: Star Wars!
Our friends Phineas and Ferb are living happily on Tatooine, just one moisture farm over from Luke Skywalker. They love simply hanging out and creating new adventures under the twin suns, however, they find themselves thrust into a global rebellion when the plans for blowing up the Death Star accidentally fall into their hands.
So let's join the boys, their sister Candace, Perry, Dr. D, and the rest of the gang as they do Star Wars! And May the Force be with you, because we’re going... Deep in the Plus!
This was originally delivered as two separate episode of the "Phineas and Ferb" series, but Disney+ has made it one show and put it out as a combined special for your convenience!
What's unique about this Star Wars parody is that instead of casting the characters in the roles of Luke, Han, Leia, and crew, this story happens alongside of the events of Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope! As a matter of fact, it's very similar to the Timon and Pumba 2004 straight-to-video movie: The Lion King 1 1⁄2.

This is Deep in the Plus!

This week, we have a classic for you. It's not a DEEP pick, nor is it the first thing you chose when you logged in to Disney+ for the first time, but it’s Walt Disney’s animated masterpiece, Lady and the Tramp!
This 1955 animated classic follows a coddled cocker spaniel named Lady, whose comfortable life seems to be slipping away once her owners have a baby. After a series of unfortunate events, Lady finds herself on the loose and on her own, until she runs into a tough stray mutt called Tramp who teaches her the rules of life on the streets. A romance begins to blossom between the two dogs, but their many differences, along with more drama at Lady's home, threaten to keep them apart.
So grab a bowl of meatballs and spaghetti and join us on this lovely Bella Notte, as we go... Deep in the Plus!
Lady and the Tramp
Lady and the Tramp was the first film distributed by the Buena Vista Film Distribution company. It was the 15th Disney animated feature film, and the first animated feature to be filmed in the CinemaScope widescreen film process.
And while it was made in the golden age of Disney animation, around such classics as Alice in Wonderland (1951), Peter Pan (1953) and Sleeping Beauty (1959), it doesn't seem to get the same love. Its only presence inside Disney Parks is Tony's Town Square at Walt Disney World, and it's only been Tony's for about 30 years. However, the film did receive a direct-to-DVD sequel in 2001 and a Live Action remake on Disney+ in 2019.

This week, we’re traveling back to 1989 and the Disney classic – Honey, I Shrunk The Kids!
This is the story of inventor Wayne Szalinski, played by Canadian heartthrob Rick Moranis. Wayne is a brilliant, yet absent-minded scientist, building a shrink ray that will change the world. Only, it doesn’t work... it just blows stuff up. When the kid next door hits a baseball through the window and it lands in the path of the machine's laser, it begins working.
Wayne's two kids, plus the ones next door end up getting shrunk. Now the four children have been taken out with the trash and have to find their way back across the world's most dangerous backyard, so Wayne can make them big again. A tale as old as time.
Honey I Shrunk the Kids Movie Review
Honey I Shrunk the Kids is definitely an icon property for the Walt Disney Company. With a trilogy of movies, a short-lived TV series, and lost park attractions such as "Honey, I Shrunk the Audience!" and the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids: Movie Set Adventure, Disney has a lot invested in the series. And don't forget, a new movie has been announced with Josh Gad joining the Szalinski family. (Can we bring back the playground?) But with all that, does this movie stand up for a 2020 audience?

Each week, we go deep into the Disney+ catalog and take a look at things that you might have missed, and tell you if they worth adding to your watchlist.
For this episode, we picked a film that was just added to Disney+ on April 1st. And no, I’m not joking––it’s Mars Needs Moms!
Mars Needs Moms, released in 2011, was animated in motion capture by the Robert Zemeckis company, Image Movers Digital. In this film, we’re introduced to Milo, a 9-year-old boy who has a lot on his mind: He has monster movies to watch, comic books to read, and all other kinds of fun stuff to accomplish. He definitely does not have time to do homework, or eat his vegetables.
Milo's getting tired of his mom nagging him to do these things, and his mom is tired of nagging. But just as Milo is telling his mom that life would be more fun without her, Martians kidnap her. Milo stows away on their spaceship, determined to launch a rescue.
Now, I know you’re probably feeling a little nervous right now, but don’t worry—every person thinking about watching Mars Needs Moms has felt that way at one time or another.
Before you decide if it’s right for you, come along on a test run with us as we venture to the red planet and take you... Deep in the Plus!
Mars Needs Moms has has all the elements you would think you'd need for a good Disney movie, yet this movie certainly didn't resonate with audiences when it was first released. The movie cost $150 million to make, and another estimated $60 million to promote, yet cleared less than $40 million at the domestic box office.
While this was disappointing, it is said to have brought the partnership between Disney and ImageMovers to an end. I'm almost as disappointed in the fact that we didn't get to see the other projects come to be, such as Calling All Robots, a Yellow Submarine remake, and saddest of all, the Roger Rabbit sequel. At the same time, I'm really torn because this style of animation is just... well... creepy.

Welcome to Deep in the Plus, where each week, we go deep into some of the gems in the Disney+ vault.
So this week, we have a really overlooked movie – Tall Tale. Released in 1995, Tall Tale is a movie where legendary American folk heroes come to life! 12-year-old Daniel Hackett (played by Nick Stahl) embarks on a quest to save his father's farm from a greedy land baron (played by Scott Glenn).
As Daniel struggles to help his dad, he encounters storybook characters such as the tornado-roping Pecos Bill (played by Patrick Swayze) and hammer-wielding John Henry (played by Roger Aaron Brown), as well as gun-toting Calamity Jane (played by Catherine O'Hara) and ax-hauling Paul Bunyan (played Oliver Platt) with his loyal blue ox, Babe.
So, join us as we spin some tall tales of our own, and take you... deep in the plus!
Disney's Tall Tale
Tall Tales, in general, are a fundamental element of American folk literature. It's our version of mythology, and are based in our own history. These characters were likely based on real people, but as the stories were passed from one to another, they became exaggerated and then... legendary! Disney did an amazing job weaving some of the biggest heroes of the genre into an entertaining and cohesive film.
This movie is most definitely a forgotten gem in Disney history. It was basically a box office failure and didn't receive great reviews when it came out, so it's very likely you missed this one the first time around.
With a good story and an incredible cast, Tall Tale is part western, part action, part family and ALL Disney! But let us know what YOU think!

Welcome to Deep in the Plus!
Each week, we go deep into the Disney+ library and pull out of hidden classic that you might have overlooked.
This week's pick is from way back in the far out '60s, where cellphones weren't a thing and Kurt Russell was king! It's Disney's The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes!
The students from Medfield college, led by Dexter Riley (played by Disney legend Kurt Russell) are in need of a computer in 1969.
They convince businessman A.J. Arno (played by Cesar Romero) to donate one and when it needs to be repaired during an electrical storm, Dexter receives the shock of his life - literally!
Suddenly, the computer's brain has fused with his and he's a genius, of course. Unfortunately, he also has knowledge about Arno's illegal gambling operations, which were stored in the computer. Now, Dexter is a celebrity... but Arno wants him eliminated. What happens next?
Well, grab your sneakers and hold on tight, because we're going Deep in the Plus!
The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes
While maybe not the "best" movie Disney produced, this movie is still an important IP in Disney History. Not only is it the first movie in a "Dexter Riley Trilogy" with Disney Legend Kurt Russell, but it also takes place at Medfield College.
This was a fictitious college that Disney used as a backdrop for some of their finest family films of the time, including The Absent-Minded Professor (1961) and Son of Flubber (1963); and the 'Dexter Rilley' trilogy: The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes (1969), Now You See Him, Now You Don't (1972), and The Strongest Man in the World (1975).
It was also the scene for the Robin Williams remake, Flubber in 1997. Watch or listen to our show and find out more!

Kim Possible played by Christy Carlson Romano is just your average high-school cheerleader, but in her spare time, she saves the world from super villains. Her best friend, Ron Stoppable, played by Will Friedle, and his pet Rufus always have her back. Then there’s the guy in the chair––no, not that guy––but the resourceful webmaster named Wade Load. Together, they collaborate on secret missions and each episode, they save the world! When she's not defeating the bad guys, Kim still has to cope with typical pressures of school, family, and social life. So the drama!

Kim Possible is still a show that stands the test of time. It's as fun and as relevant as the first time you watched it. Mix in all of the special guests and tongue-in-cheek humor, and this one definitely falls into the re-watch category. But watch our review––we cover it all from top to bottom!

Set in the Wild West, around the time of the gold rush in 1879, it’s a story about 3 poor orphans are left with a slick gambler named Russell Donovan (played by Bill Bixby.) The kids discover they have actually inherited a large gold mine from their father. They find gold and soon a series of greedy undesirables step up to claim it for their own. They turn to a lovable outlaw duo, Theodore (played by Don Knotts) and Amos (played by Tim Conway) and of course, wackiness ensues. Also featuring MASH star Henry Morgan, Western movie legend Slim Pickens, this movie is classic Disney... but is it worth your time?

This was the first movie to pair veteran actors Don Knotts and Tim Conway, but began a long line of buddy movies with these guys. We are back, and taking you deep into the offerings on the Disney+ streaming service. This week, we’re talking about the Disney animated sequel that started them all, The Return of Jafar.
In many ways, this was a milestone movie. Return of Jafar was the first movie created by Disney MovieToons animation studio and Walt Disney Television Animation, who went on to produce numerous sequels, prequels, and mid-quels to be distributed by Walt Disney Home Video. This one was the first "direct to video" Disney animated sequel.
For this story, most of the original cast returns: Scott Weinger (Aladdin), Linda Larkin (Princess Jasmine) and Jonathan Freeman (Jafar). This tale picks up where the 1992 Aladdin film left off, as Aladdin and Jasmine are adjusting to life in the palace. Meanwhile, Jafar has been imprisoned in a magic lamp, but an inept thief, Abis Mal (Jason Alexander), is about to change that. Luckily for Aladdin and friends, Jafar's parrot, Iago (Gilbert Gottfried), has switched to their side. Consider this Iago's redemption story.
This movie also serves as the kick off to the Aladdin TV series that ran for 3 seasons, although that series is not currently available on Disney+.
Another big note is that this movie and the series took place without the talented Robin Williams. Instead, famed voice actor Dan Castellaneta, the voice of Homer Simpson, plays the beloved Genie. The holiday season is upon us, and Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol is one of the most treasured stories of this time of year. This week, Rob and Jill look at one that involves puppets. That's right, we're going deep into 1992's The Muppet Christmas Carol.
The film stars a human - namely Michael Caine - as Ebeneezer Scrooge. Caine is brilliant in the role, all the more so because he is escorted through Scrooge's redemption by a cadre of Muppets. Kermit the Frog is Bob Cratchit; Fozzie the Bear plays Fozziwig. Gonzo the Great takes the role of Dickens himself and narrates the story, accompanied by Rizzo the Rat as comic relief. Waldorf and Statler split the Marley role into two brothers, and you'll find many other beloved muppets popping up throughout the film as well. The ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come, however, are Muppets created just for these roles.
This movie had high expectations to meet - it was the first Muppets film made after the death of Jim Henson. It also features a compelling soundtrack with songs penned by Paul Williams, who co-wrote the famous "Rainbow Connection."
There are many versions of this story, including some others you can find on Disney+, such as the beloved Mickey's Christmas Carol. So is The Muppet Christmas Carol worth your Christmas-time? Watch this week's episode to find out!

Let's go back to 1940 by way of 1971 as we talk Bedknobs and Broomsticks, a Disney live-action/animated feature set in England during World War II. This week on Deep in the Plus, Rob and Jill discuss this often-overlooked Disney classic that lives in the shadow of Mary Poppins. Walt actually had a hand in the making of this film, even though it came out several years after his death. Ward Kimball, one of Disney's Nine Old Men, directed the animated sequences. The Sherman Brothers lent their talents with captivating melodies like "Portobello Road" and "Substitutiary Locomotion."
The film features aspiring witch Elgantine Price (Angela Lansbury) who wants to use her supernatural talents to end the war. Set during the Blitz, in which the Germans relentlessly bombed London, Price is asked to take in three children displaced by the bombings. They learn she's a witch and accompany her on her quest to find the final spell that she believes will turn the tide of war. With the help of the instructor of her witchcraft correspondence course, Dr. Emelius Brown (David Tomlinson), Miss Price finally gets her wish.
Bedknobs and Broomsticks is a little bit Harry Potter and a little bit Mary Poppins. But is it worth your time to watch?

Join Rob and Jill this week as Deep in the Plus dives into the 2010 sci-fi adventure TRON: Legacy. It's a sequel (or arguably a reboot) of the 1982 cult-classic TRON. Neither movie overwhelmed at the box office, but the TRON franchise remains popular among Disney and sci-fi fans to this day. Disney even built a ride based on the IP in Shanghai Disneyland. The attraction was such a success that a version of the ride is currently under construction in the Magic Kingdom, set to open in 2021.
The film takes place 28 years after the original, in which hero Kevin Flynn journeys into a virtual world. Legacy centers around Flynn's son Sam, who goes in search of his father; Kevin went missing 8 years after the events of the first film. The movie is visually stunning and tells the next chapter of the TRON story. For fans of the franchise, it offers many callbacks to the original, and serves up plenty of the iconic identity disks and light cycles. But is it worth watching with so many choices on Disney+? Rob and Jill don't see eye to eye on this one. Is TRON: Legacy a must-watch for Disney fans, or is the IP better than the films on which it's based?

This week, Deep in the Plus resurfaces with a look at one of Disney's less memorable animated films from the 1990s, The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Released in the summer of 1996 in the wake of some of the most popular Disney films of all time - The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and The Lion King - Hunchback has faded from memory despite its box-office success.
In the film, set in the late 15th century, Quasimodo (voiced by Tom Hulce) lives a sheltered life as the bell-ringer of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. However, he longs to be "out there" amid the people rather than locked away in his bell tower. Meanwhile his master, Frollo (Tony Jay), is on a mission to purge the city of gypsies, including the lovely young Esmeralda (Demi Moore). Quasimodo helps to rescue her from Frollo, and in doing so sees Frollo's villainy as well as the possibility of being accepted by others.
While far less dark than the Victor Hugo novel on which it is based, The Hunchback of Notre Dame is still widely considered Disney's darkest animated film. Rob and Jill take a look at what makes it so dark and how it differs from other films of the Disney Renaissance period. Is it worth a watch when there are so many titles to choose from on Disney+?

Deep in the Plus is a brand new YouTube show/podcast devoted to going deeper into the world of Disney+. Once you’ve watched all the original programming from Disney+, like The Mandalorian, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, and The World According to Jeff Goldblum, there’s still a lot more content out there to experience. Disney has rolled out over 500 movies from their ever-growing catalog, as well as thousands of hours of classic TV programming. So where do you begin?
That’s where we come in. Each week, hosts Rob and Jill will roll out a different “Deep Cut” from the Disney+ vault to discuss. It could be a Disney Channel classic, maybe an old favorite cartoon, or something you've never even heard of. And, they’ll take you even deeper into the app, what’s coming next, and what you need to know to get the most out of Disney’s new streaming service.
On this week’s series premiere episode, Rob and Jill talk about Disney’s 1992 cult-classic musical, Newsies! Directed by Kenny Ortega (High School Musical) and starring a young Christian Bale (Ford vs Ferrari), this film is based on actual events of the New York newsboys strike of 1899. With music from Alan Menken (The Little Mermaid) and featuring Bill Pullman, Robert Duvall, and Ann-Margret, Newsies would go on to become a Broadway musical and a guilty, nostalgic pleasure for Generation X. Is it worth your screen time? Watch this week’s episode to find out!
