Matt Canon is a long-time member of the Deerfield Family Theatre (DFT) community. He first performed with DFT in 2008 and has since taken on various roles, including acting, stage managing, and now directing. Matt is excited to be directing DFTâs upcoming production of âCharlie and the Chocolate Factory,â which opens on November 15, 2024. He explains that this version is much closer to the original Roald Dahl book than previous adaptations, with a modern twist and some subtle changes to the story. Matt also recently acted in DFTâs production of âNoises Off.â He enjoys switching between acting and directing roles, as he believes it keeps him fresh and helps him understand both perspectives. Matt is thrilled to be working with some familiar faces from DFTâs 2009 âWilly Wonkaâ production, and he is confident the show will be a hit with audiences of all ages.

In this episode, 10-year-old Brielle Horwitch discusses her upcoming role as Charlie in Deerfield Family Theaterâs production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Despite her young age, Brielle brings considerable stage experience to the role, having performed in around 20 shows including Les MisĂ©rables (as Young Cosette and Young Eponine), The Sound of Music, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and The Music Man. This will be her third time performing in a Willy Wonka-themed production, though this version is unique as she is the only child among the golden ticket winners, with young adults playing the other winners.
Brielle shares her passion for musical theater, which was inspired by her older sistersâ performances. Sheâs excited to work with adult performers, noting that it helps elevate her acting skills. Brielle has extensive experience having seen numerous Broadway shows including Wicked, Mean Girls, The Lion King, Frozen, and Six (both in New York and London). Also, opening night of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory coincides with her birthday!

Danny Mulae is an actor with a history at Deerfield Family Theatre (DFT). He played Charlie Bucket in DFT's production of Willy Wonka 15 years ago, and now he is taking on the role of Mike Teavee in their current production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Deerfield Family Theater is excited to announce auditions for our November 2024 production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl.
Auditions are open to adults, teens and children (entering 4th grade and up). They will be held at Jewett Park Community Center, 836 Jewett Park Dr., Deerfield, on Monday, August 19th and August 21st from 6-9pm, and August 24th from 10am-2pm. Callbacks will be by invitation on August 25th.
Please prepare 32 bars of a musical theater song in a similar genre, and bring sheet music (marked with beginning and end) in the key of your choice. An accompanist will be provided. Dress to move, as there will also be a dance audition. Please bring a headshot and resume if you have one.
Performances dates are November 15-17th and November 22nd-24th, 2024 at Caruso Auditorium, 1801 Montgomery Rd., Deerfield.
Reserve your spot now, and indicate "adult" (HS and up) or "child" (4th-8th grade) when prompted. The audition packet is available to download from our website www.deerfieldfamilytheater.com. Please print the forms (single-sided), fill out completely, and bring them with you to your audition. Walk-ins are welcome, but may have to wait.
