  • Today, based on recent comments from Jerry Seinfeld, Asif asks Ali the much discussed question “is woke/PC culture ruining comedy” (1:11). They discuss Seinfeld’s comments and Ali’s examples from his comedy as well as others. They also talk about Bill Burr’s recent comments on Bill Maher’s podcast about how cancel culture is “not a thing”.

    Then Ali asks Asif about anxiety (25:50). Asif starts off by describing the different types of anxiety as well as how to differentiate clinical anxiety from ‘normal worries’. Asif then goes into a deep dive on a specific type of anxiety – generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). He talks about the risk factors for this and presumed causes of GAD. Asif then goes over how common it is as well as the diagnosis. Finally Ali asks Asif about the treatment of generalized anxiety disorder.

  • Today Ali and Asif discuss the recent hit Netflix special ‘The Roast of Tom Brady’ (2:31). Asif starts off by asking Ali if Tom Brady was a good candidate for a roast. They then chat about the hosting duties of Kevin Hart and some of the controversy related to one of the jokes from ‘Roastmaster General’ Jeff Ross. The guys discuss the various roasters; they go over the athletes who spoke and how some of their jokes were good and how many fell flat. They praise the many of the comedians involved, especially Nikki Glaser. They discuss her breakout performance and how some of her material was written by former DvsC guest Dan St. Germain. They go over the Kim Kardashian section and how the “boos” for her were edited out on subsequent airings. They also discuss the good and bad surprise guests from the roasts including Will Ferrell as Tom Burgundy and Ben Affleck and Bill Belichick and Robert Kraft.     Tom Brady has been linked to Alex Guerrero who advocates an alkaline diet. In our second half we will discuss Guerrero, his health care business with Brady and whether there is any evidence behind his claims (31:54). Asif starts off by discussing Guererro’s background and then reviews the scientific evidence for the alkaline diet. They then go over how Guerrero was sanctioned twice by the US Federal Trade Commission for making false claims. Ali then asks Asif about Brady and Guerreros’ health business TB12.

They discuss how China is a major setting in the book and series as well as the series opening scene depicting the ‘Cultural Revolution’ in China in the 1960’s.     Then the guys discuss Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) (24:44). Asif starts out by discussing the differences between alcoholic and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.   • Since March has been endometriosis awareness month, on today’s episode, Asif and Ali welcome gynecologist Dr. Sony Singh to discuss this common and often debilitating disease. Dr. Singh explains what it is and how it affects at at least 10% of women. He discusses how it is often underdiagnosed or misdiagnosed how this delay in diagnosis can have long term impacts. He then discusses some tests that can be used in the diagnosis, while acknowledging that in the past endometriosis has easily been missed on ultrasounds and MRI’s. He talks about how it can be treated and the severe complications he has seen in some women. Finally, Dr. Singh discusses the importance of social media in the advocacy of this disease and celebrities that have been affected by it.

They discuss various opinion articles on this subject and the 'cancelling’ of historical figures such as Oscar Wilde and various politicians. They discuss how different types of art may allow this separation to be made easier or harder. They compare authors to actors/directors to stand up comedians and singers. They also discuss how weak versus strong apologies can change someone’s viewpoint on an artist. The guys conclude by discussing the case of Michael Jackson and the sexual abuse allegations against him. Because Jackson suffered from vitiligo, in the second half the guys discuss this skin disease (38:36). Asif talks about the presumed cause as well as how it is diagnosed. Ali then asks Asif about the psychological toll the disease can take as well as the treatment and prognosis.

He then discusses how despite what many think, you can become addicted to cannabis. Asif then reviews how cannabis may impair brain development and how it is related to psychosis. He also discusses whether cannabis can be considered a gateway drug. Asif then goes over some of the more severe side effects including cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome and reversible cerebral vasoconstriction syndrome. Ali then asks Asif about any updates regarding seizures and cannabis and also discusses the cultural role of cannabis in some societies.
