In this episode of Doctors Getting Coffee I spoke in depth with Dr Swapnil Pawar. I ran into Swapnil in a corridor months earlier and recognised him from his critical care podcasts (there are many!). We spoke briefly and he was keen to hop on an episode - and finally we could make it happen. Well he didn't disappoint! We spoke about psychological coaching, impactful patient stories, how to become an intensive care doctor, and how to live a balanced life.

In this episode of Doctors Getting Coffee, Dr Syl speaks with Dr Laurence Boss, an anaesthetist from St George Hospital. It was a wonderful conversation and Dr Syl loved Laurence's energy and engagement. They spoke about Laurence's time as an intern in the UK, working in air ambulance, what it was like to work in Australia compared to the UK, they spoke about burnout and what scares Laurence as an anaesthetist, and they spoke about down time and the importance of 'fads!'.

This week I spoke with Dr Frank Brennan from Calvary Hospital in Sydney, Australia. What an incredible person. What an incredible conversation. We spoke about how his passion for Palliative Care stemmed from his Brother passing away at a young age. We spoke about his time in South Africa. We spoke about how to discover yourself as a doctor and his journey in medicine. He shared with us an incredible poem and a short story about the struggle of the dying process, not sure as the patient but also as the loved ones. We also discussed how working with people who are dying make us reflect on our own mortality as doctors.

In this episode of Doctors Getting Coffee, I had the great pleasure of catching up with an old teacher of mine - Professor David Morris. He is the Head of Liver Surgery and Peritonectomy at St George Hospital. We talked about his beginnings in England and the troubles he had with his family because of his love of medicine. We go on to talk about his arrival to Australia and his pioneering of the Peritonectomy Procedure in Australia. We talk about one of the drugs he developed called BromAc which is in phase 2 trials for COVID.
All in all, it was a wonderful talk that I wished could have gone for longer.
