  • DONT miss this informative chat about food, trying to conceive, postpartum and of course HOMEBIRTH.

Phillip is a degree qualified naturopath with over a decade of experience in clinical practice.

I have a special interest in supporting people to improve their digestive health and this passion has led me to follow extensive training in this space.
As a GAPS (Gut and Psychology syndrome) practitioner, I understand that food education is an important step in being well, as the food that we choose to eat every day is what heals and support our bodies to thrive.
When changing foods in the home it often means that I work with the whole family (within the same home as well as across generations). Our food and nutritional needs change over our lifespan and having an understanding on how to adjust (from first foods for bubs to special health needs) is a vital part of clinical practice.
My wife and I have two wonderful boys (4 and 1) and I see that being a dad is my most important job in life.
I find this work really empowering as it means that once clients have learnt what works for them, they can go out and be the example in the community. I believe that when people are healthier that they are more able to make better choices for themselves and their communities.

  • You do not want to miss this one! We talk chronic health, covid babies, sleep and all things Mammas go through! Katie is a baby-led sleep consultant with a background in registered nursing. She is a mother to two boys, Ellis (3.5) and Ari (1.5). Katie has a long history of chronic illness which lead her to taking a break from nursing, and in her time away from the workforce had her 2 boys, navigating 2 x hyperemesis gravidarum pregnancies and 2 c-section recoveries. Katie became fascinated with the world of infant sleep and early childhood development after experiencing chronic wakefulness with her eldest who is highly sensitive and navigating parenting a child with developmental differences. She is passionate about responsive and neuroprotective parenting practices, and how our attunement and responsiveness to our children can help them to develop a thriving nervous system that is primed for a lifetime of resiliency. Her subsequent experience guiding her second child through his first year of sleep was remarkably different; much less stressful and Katie felt much more rested, even though her second child’s sleep was also challenging. Katie is passionate about guiding others through the sleep challenges that families can face in early childhood and helping them find strategies that take the pressure off and make parenting more enjoyable. She has completed a Baby-led Sleep & Wellbeing certification through Isla Grace, and she has now launched her own sleep and early parenting support business under the name NeuroGrow. Katie’s main area of focus is highly sensitive children and how their temperament impacts sleep. She is currently working on various resources to support parents of highly sensitive littles while carrying out 1:1 sleep support through Mama Matters. www.mamamatters.com.au & https://instagram.com/neurogrow_

  • "Because giving birth is such a real thing, it takes you back to a rawness and a realness about your essential nature as a human being that is. Completely different from the sort of the mad culture that we're all immersed in. There's something older and deeper and more real than the cultural sort of millieu that we might be in".

Julie Bell is a nurse, missionary, doula, birth passionista, herbalist and owner of Blissful Herbs.

She was born in Australia but grew up in New Zealand so has experienced life on both sides of the Tasman. She claims allegiance to whichever nation is winning the cricket.

After completing her training as a Registered Comprehensive Nurse, she decided the best way to kill herself was to go on the Outward Bound outdoor adventure course.

For 24 days she scaled cliffs, threw herself overboard into frothy seas and kayaked backwards down waterfalls in the wilds of the South Island (yes, where The Lord of the Rings was filmed).

To the amazement of herself and particularly of her instructors, she survived and then proceeded to spend the two decades of her life in South East Asia as a volunteer humanitarian worker.

She can mark her experiences in terms of the bizarre delicacies she has ingested along the way. Frogs, snakes, birds, bird’s nests, sharks, shark fins, thousand year old eggs - some containing embryos - spiders, bats, dogs, cats …. And every possible anatomical appendage or innard a beast can grow: pickled, fermented, broiled, dried, roasted, buried underground, raw, or smothered in chilli enough to sear every internal lining from lips to squat pot.

She can also give the movie ‘Planes, Trains and Automobiles’ a run for its money. Julie’s version would be, ‘Jeeps, Junks, and Tuk Tuks’.

She has been married for a cool quarter of a century and together they have welcomed four babies, all born at home. Now aged from 11 to 24 years, they like to do mad things like free-climbing tall cliffs - and buildings - running marathons, riding unicycles and getting brought home by Police at 4 a.m.

It is the passion of Julie’s life to support women in realizing their personal power and learning to wield it unapologetically. It is the joy of Julie’s life to be allied with a remarkable cohort of creative and inspiring women who are a force of love and change in the world. Julie is the eternal student and constant journeywoman, always seeking, learning, discovering and expecting.

Into her 50s and beyond, Julie intends to continue to live radically, wage peace and make revolution. She has no plans to go quietly.

  • Wow this was such an amazing conversation! Shani Dickins- Motherhood Coach and Postpartum Doula

Shani had a deep calling to help others in some way, to be of service. Naturally she fell into this space of supporting mums after she became a mother at the tender age of 20.

The transition was incredibly fractured and so too was the connection she had, or didn’t have, with her daughter initially. Four pregnancies and births later, two of which were high risk. Shani experienced the broken system, been left to figure it out alone and have being silenced by professionals. This led her to having little trust in herself and stopped her from speaking up when she knew things weren’t right.

Shani has been on a five year journey of understanding who she is, discovering some really deep and dark shadows that lived deep within her, uncovered an entirely new way of living life, and most importantly she has forgiven herself for all that has been in her life.

Shani is so passionate about supporting and holding mums through learning to trust themselves and how to make informed decisions, in what is an incredibly sacred journey. She is so passionate about guiding mums on their transition into and through motherhood to connect with the new, upgraded version of themselves.
