  • Episode 70 - Dyslexia Success Story with CMO of Samsung Europe, Benjamin Braun.

This episode is a little different. In this episode I am joined by the brilliant Benjamin Braun, the CMO of Samsung Europe!

My aim with these ocasional guest interviews is to share and demonstarte real world examples of people who are scuessful BECAUSE of their dyslexia, not despite it.

This also proves that of the things we talk about on this podcast really do work in the real world, and they will work for everyone. It helps to contextualise the concepts we talk about on this podcast into real world examples.

Benjamin joined Samsung as their Chief Marketing Officer for Europe. Prior to Samsung, Benjamin led Audi’s marketing in the United Kingdom. His campaigns were used worldwide and recognised with a Cannes Lions Gold Award and an IPA Grand Prix for marketing efficiency. Before joining Audi, Benjamin was part of the comparethemarket.com’s executive team and worked across the UK, France and Holland. At British Gas he launched a nifty little app that lets you control your home from your phone. And before that he worked for American Express in New York.

Benjamin’s personal achievements include his photography exhibition at the Tate Gallery in London and receiving the Royal Swedish Glass design award. Benjamin also volunteers as a Special Police Constable in London where he responds to emergencies.

  • Episode 68 - Dyslexia and Reading Long E-mails

That feeling you get when you get one heck of a loooong e-mail!

This is a question that came up in our membership The Hive and ther person seeking help was desperate for that hack that would solve their problem.

Often, with dyslexia, the reading is not the problem, its the comprehension.

Comprehension is the understanding of teh whole text, not just the words. This usually comes about when you notice that you have re-read the same text multple times, and when you get to the end and relaise that you took none of that in.

Ofcourse there are loads of things which we could recomend. Theres a ton of assivtive technology and coloured filters you could use which might help. But I am sorry to say that, when we want real sucess with managing our dyslexia, the reality is that there is no one hack that will solve everything for you. And, though we could recommend loads of really helpful things, it is usually down to the individual needs as some things just won't work for you and the way your brain works.

In this episode I share with you some suggestions which we believe could help with thsi specific dyslexia challenge and what we think you should do to get ever lasting sucess.

This week's episode is a rewind episode from Episode 4 when we discuss 'What is Dyslexia'.

If we better understand dyslexia better we can work out better systems to support us.

The more we understand dyslexia, it does two things:

We understand better systems to support us, and We can better accept the challenges of dyslexia.

Talking to other people with dyslexia and understanding the reality of dyslexia, with the broader range of challenges beyond under spelling and reading, helps to feel less isolated and alone.

When you know that you're not the only one experiencing these broad range of challenges, they seem more manageable.

    Key topics:

Why we first need to understand dyslexia, How Broad the Challenges and Strengths are with Dyslexia, Discussing the reality helps us to feel less alone, and How you can navigate all of the frutrating emotions.

  • Episode 62 - Dyslexia and How to Navigate Tiredness

Whenever I talk about dyslexia and tiredness, analytics go crazy!

And, it got me thinking. Why is this topic so popular?

I think the answer is that it's one of the least covered topics when we talk about dyslexic challenges.

There's something about this topic that for people with dyslexia, it makes them say "Yes! That's totally me!" "I never associated that with my dyslexia!". It makes people with like you're not alone in this challenge.

So, I thought it was time we talked about how best to navigate tiredness with dyslexia.

In this episode, I share two recent, real-life conversations I've had with two separate 1:1 clients of mine. In these conversations, the core of the issues was tiredness, and feeling judged and guilt for trying to follow what we think people expect of us, rather than following what works best for how our brains work.

I too use to get tried every afternoon when I worked in the corporate world. Now working for myself, in the ways which work best for me and my brain, I am more productive than I have ever been.

In this episode I will share how you can become more productive by working in the way which best works for you!

  • Epsiode 61 - Dyslexia and Procrastinating

It doesn't matter how important the task is. If it's not fum and interesting, or I think it's going to be a challenge for my dyslexia, it will get left to the last minute to complete the task.

It often comes with so much guilt and shame that you've left the task so late that you dare not share this with anyone!

This is so common for neurodiverse people particularly with Dyslexia and/or ADHD!

Once we understand how and why if affects our performance, we can put strategies in place to support us in these areas.

In this episode I share a story about when this has happened to me recently, like so many people with dyslexia. And how I used my strategies which I have in place to support me through the challenge.

Hopefully this gives you some tips on what you can do next time you feel like you're procrastinating over a really important, yet boring task!

  • Episode 56 - How to Support your Dyslexic Partner

    Flexible and Kind.

These are the essential qualities that I believe everyone should have in their partner, but esspecially for partners of dyslexic people.

In this episode I share a conversation I had wiuth friends over dinner about what are the best qualities and characteristics of a partner for a dyslexic person that they can understand better what support their dyslexic partner needs.

Understanding how dyslexic brains work, helps the partners of dyslexic people understand the importance of 'going with the flow' and being flexible.

Typically, people with dyslexia have some traits which can be frustrating at times, like processing information differently or slower, or misreading directions or lists. BUT... people with dyslexia also typically have traits which are very empathetic and creative, so you could be in for a lot of fun.

If you want to be supportive to your dyslexic partner, be flexible and kind.

In this episode I also share some of teh behined the sceans of Dyslexia in Adults like how the businees model works.

    Key topics:

How to support your dyslexic partner, Leaning to be flexible and 'go withe the flow' Be kind and take the lead in areas your dyslexic partner are not confident in (like remebering peoples names, like writing a shopping list rather trusting their memory), and Understanding how their brain works.

  • Episode 55 - Understanding Dyslexic Strengths to Grow Confidence

This is the last episode in the 'Growing Confidence ' series. All throughout January I have been talking about confidence as I feel without it you won't be able to find sustainable success because of dyslexia as opposed to despite of it.

When we talk about managing the challenges with dyslexia and hacks to navigate the challenges, we're not really addressing the root cause of the issues block success and feeling accepting of your dyslexia.

When we focus on strengths and we build confidence, then we can start to build real success.

What is great is that, you're not alone in this. Not only do we have a whole community called "The Hive" but, the reason I started Dyslexia in Adults is because I was looking for answers myself, beyond navigating hacks and work arounds for challenges like spell and time management. So I know what it feels like.

In this last episode of this series I dig deep into strengths and use real life examples from the Hive, 1:1's, and myself.

  • Episode 54 - How to Build Confidence with Dyslexia

I honestly believe that, no matter what strategies or 'hacks' you put in place to navigate the challenges of dyslexia, without confidence you'll never fully embrace your dyslexia and truly understand your strengths .

See, when your focus is on navigating or avoiding the challenges, you fail to see the strengths which is iconically the first step to building confidence with dyslexia and believing in yourself.

I too, as a fellow dyslexic adult, do not manage to avoid or navigate all my dyslexic challenges all the time with the best of strategies in place. In this episode I will tell you a story about a recent dyslexia fail which years ago would have sent me into a spiral of self loathing and self judgement. But today, with a build of self-confidence, I can notice the challenge and the cause, take a beat, and make a decision to move forward more confident and resilient than I was before.

And it's not just me. In this episode I use a real world examples from some of my 1:1 coaching sessions I have with other dyslexic adults!

I really believe in this and why I started Dyslexia in Adults is to help others find their confidence in dyslexia, and to build a community of people so that we know we're not going through this alone!
