El 2 de octubre de 1949 nació Richard Lester Meyers, a quien el mundo conocería como Richard Hell. Hoy cumple 75 años esta figura fundamental en el amanecer de la escena punk del Nueva York de los 70’s. Poeta y rock’n’roller de espíritu beatnik que encarnó como ningún otro el nihilismo más feroz del género. Un sujeto de imagen icónica que inspiró la estética del punk. Co-líder y miembro fundador de dos bandas tan seminales y trascendentales como Television o los Heartbreakers, además de lanzar dos álbumes al frente de los Voidoids, cuyo debut se conserva absolutamente rompedor frente a cualquier otro disco de su tiempo. Este tipo escribió el gran himno de la generación en blanco. Así que sí, es posible que unas cuantas cosas comenzase con Richard Hell.

Con motivo del 50 aniversario del mítico sello Bomp Records, la disquera Munster está reeditando algunos de sus más emblemáticos lanzamientos. Entre ellos el primer álbum de The Pandoras, “It’s about time” (1984). Lideradas por la icónica Paula Pierce, estas californianas fueron pioneras del garage revival y una de las bandas más importantes de su tiempo. También se han reeditado el primer single y primer álbum de Stiv Bators. El disco “Disconnected” marcó la etapa power pop para el que había sido un referente del punk al frente de los Dead Boys y que después se convertiría en vocalista de los oscuros y exitosos The Lords of The New Church.

George Bruno Money, conocido como Zoot Money, fue un cantante y teclista de los años dorados del Rhythm n’ Soul británic. Nacido en 1942 y fallecido el 8 de septiembre de 2024, a los 82 años. Rescatamos en este episodio su álbum “Zoot!”, grabado en directo el 31 de mayo de 1966 en el Klooks Kleek Club, pequeña sala de jazz y R&B ubicado en el Railway Hotel, en West Hampstead, junto a los estudio de la Decca. Aquel álbum, que se convirtió en su mayor éxito en listas, consiguió plasmar el tremendo poderío de esta explosiva banda en su momento de máximo esplendor.

El viernes 13 de septiembre se lanza en todo el planeta el disco “Indoor safari” (Yep Roc), nuevo álbum de Nick Lowe con Los Straitjackets. Un día antes lo presentamos en exclusiva, escuchando en primicia esta nueva colección de canciones a cargo de uno de las más brillantes compositores que ha dado el pop y el rock’n’roll de los últimos 55 años.
Estrenamos también el primer adelanto del próximo álbum de los suizos The Jackets, disco que se editará a mediados de octubre bajo el título “Intiution”.

Clyde Otis nació el 11 de septiembre de 1924. Con motivo de su cien cumpleaños dedicamos nuestro tiempo de radio a picotear en el inabarcable legado de uno de los grandes compositores del siglo XX. Más de 800 canciones registradas a su nombre que han sido interpretadas por muchas de las grandes voces del jazz, el soul o el R&B. Esto es tan solo una pequeña porción de la punta del iceberg de la obra que nos dejó.
