We thought we were retired...turns out we're back for one last pod. Kidding. But it is time to honor a man who continues to come out of retirement and inflict cinematic pain any way he sees fit. Mechanic. Transporter. Beekeeper. Hobbs (or Shaw, not too sure). And now WORKING MAN. None other than Jason Statham. First we break down Statham's new David Ayer movie - A Working Man. Then, we lock into the career of a man who's roundhouse kicked and throat stabbed his way into our hearts. Finally, we pitch to Statham two movies that he could've or can make any damn time he'd like. Lionsgate is down for all of it.

Today on mic, we're celebrating (pitching to) one of the greatest to ever do it. Bank robber, detective, surveillance specialist, Memphis lawyer, nuclear submarine caption, Indiana high school basketball coach, and mayor of Mooseport GENE HACKMAN in the year 1977. But first a really long tangent about Hoosiers. Then we chat about Hackman's presence in New Hollywood films such as Bonnie and Clyde, The Conversation, Night Moves, and of course The French Connection (7:53). Will breaks down how these performances differ from his later career and approach to some of my Hackman core texts such as The Firm, The Firm, Crimson Tide, and The Firm. Then we pitch to Gene in the year 1977. Smack in the middle of a changing Hollywood (52:53).
oh and some real SMUT at the tail end (1:09:08)

One of my damn heroes joins us in the elevator tonight. Director of Out of Sight, Oceans 11-13, Sex, Lies, AND Videotape, and now BLACK BAG...Steven Sodergoat. We talk about his new espionage thriller over a couple glasses of Singani 63 (you'll also learn what that is) and discuss whether or not a spy thriller directed by Sodergoat and starring Michael Fassbender was a dream I had or if it actually happened. THEN we chop it up about some of Steven's other work. The good, the good, and the really fucking good. FINALLY we pitch Sodergoat movies in the year 2005, hot off Oceans Twelve...a desert island motion picture for yours truly.
This is a really good podcast.

We're joined by the mind behind the Friday Beers motion tracking madness, Caleb Sadd to discuss one of our favorites in the game. The vampire, NYU sociology major (circa 2001), street criminal, lighthouse keeper, time traveler, and now space duplicate...Robbie Pattinson. First we chat about RPs new flick MICKEY 17 (SPOILER WARNING). Then a study on all things Robert (31:40). Finally we pitch Pattinson movies he can do whenever the hell he wants (49:28).
Oh and there's a Remember Me recap at (1:17:06).

Sorry we missed the news cycle entirely but here's 90 minutes of recap and mailbag excellence. Today on the pod there will be no pitches. There won't even be a Tanner (well..for the most part). Instead an Oscars review followed by some good ol' Q&A. We answer such questions as do you think anyone will steal your ideas and make them movies? Who is Mikey Madison? What actor is poised for a 2025 rebrand? Seriously...who is Mikey Madison?
We answer everything. No questions left behind. Enjoy!

We're prepping for the Academy Awards here in the elevator with our long awaited discussion on Best Picture frontrunner ANORA. We welcome in Moods Radio curator Nick Canchola as well as the pride of New Jersey, writer/director Sean Baker. Then we pitch movies to Sean Baker starring the most obscure actors we can think of (49:21). Casting ideas so crazy they just might SELL.

It's a monumental day in the elevator as we're joined by one of our favorites...a treasure hunting pilot, cardio-vascular surgeon on the run, Working Guy, CIA family man who's just an analyst, Amish-curious carpenter, and Mosquito Coast inhabitant HARRISON FORD. But first, Tanner bangs out the fastest three minutes in movies, reviewing Ford's new Marvel film: Captain America: Brave New World. Then, we discuss Ford's late 80s/early 90s heater chalk full of character driven (cool guys in tweed blazers) thrillers. Finally we pitch in the year 1989 (49:40) and dream cast Ford into our own 90s masterpiece that'll surely play on TNT for years to come.

Pack your bouquet of freshly sharpened pencils and meet us on the top of the Empire State Building because it's Nora Ephron week in the elevator. That's right. For Valentine's Day we're pitching to the great writer, director, novelist, and kitchen map enthusiast. But first, a quick chat about a new trailer that piqued our interest. Then a discussion on Ephron's legacy and background as a filmmaker. Finally, we pitch to Nora hot off You've Got Mail in the year 2000 (44:11) - just before the genre she helped pioneer takes a turn for the...worse?
-
It will be a podcast of the apes...cause it's finally monkey week here in the elevator. We're joined by our pal GERRY KENAH (AFTV) to discuss the music biopic BETTER MAN and debate whether the decision to make a film about British pop star Robbie Williams portrayed as a CGI monkey works. Then we try to list any time an ape, chimp, orangutan, or capuchin has graced the silver screen (30:12). Why? Because somebody's gotta do the work. Oh yeah...we also pitch our own monkey movies and it goes really really well (46:45). Maybe too well. You see, the monkeys have taken Tanner. He wants to live with them now.

Today we're taking this elevator 30,000 feet in the air but MARK BALDBERG IS TRYING TO TAKE US DOWN. That's right. We're talking FLIGHT RISK. We start off the jump with some puzzling movie news. Then we discuss the #1 movie at the box office (9:50). We then move right into some of our favorite plane movies and the aero dynamic sub-genres they fall into (27:38). And finally...we take to the skies and pitch plane movies in any year we'd like (51:20). This is not a podcast to miss. The next one takes off tomorrow at 6 AM and your bags are already on board.

Today on the pod we're possessed (joined) by writer/actor and co-host of the Almost Friday Podcast WILL ANGUS to discuss NOSFERATU as well as the man behind the madness - writer, director, lighthouse keeper, northman, and failed corn crop grower ROBERT EGGERS. First, we consider how this quite traditional gothic melodrama fits into the modern film landscape. Then, we gab about our fave flicks from the silent German expressionism era. And then we pitch Eggers three movies he should roll right into next. Sit tight for an Eggers ranking at the end.

Good lord…we’re finally back and joined by writer/podcaster HARRY KRINSKY of the NOTHING BUT RESPECT pod to discuss none other than writer, director, night vision tunneler, and spice lobbyist DENIS VILLENUEVE. We chat about the many faces of Denis - the dark and violent Canadian indie darling, the Obama Era action god, and the current sci-fi king. Then…you just know we gotta PITCH (27:07). Three movies. A sprinkle of League talk. And a Timothée Chalamet bombshell right at the end. Make sure you’re sitting down for this ep. And definitely not operating any heavy machinery. Unless it’s your car. Please do listen to this in your car.

It's time to do what we've been waiting all year to...give a thoughtful and nuanced review of The Rock's new movie, Red One. This doesn't take long. So we spend the rest of our time talking all things Christmas movies. Our favorites, the different types, and the future of the genre. Finally, we PITCH some of our own. This is an episode not to miss. Truly a pod of good tidings and great joy.

Who? You read that right . We're in the elevator with one of the greatest living directors, HOT off his latest gem...Kraven The Hunter. Ladies and gentlemen, its JC Chandor. First, we weave some Kraven talk into a larger discussion about far more notable Chandorian titles such as Margin Call, Triple Frontier, and All Is Lost. Then Matt talks way to much about Triple Frontier. And finally, before Tanner shuts the whole damn thing down, the fellas pitch to Chandor smack in the middle of Kraven post-production. The year 2023 (25:33).

Prerecorded from Santa Monica, it's a podcast about a movie that came out three months ago! We're back in the elevator with Kate Klausner, writer of Kate's Comedy Almanac, for an episode on all things Saturday Night Live. First we talk about Jason Reitman's new(ish) movie, Saturday Night. What we liked. WHAT WE DIDN'T. Then we shift gears to SNL sketches turned movies and pitch very real SNL sketches that we'd like to see on the silver screen is any year ever (33:41).

What we do on this podcast...will echo in eternity. Unlike what happened in Gladiator II. A movie that was fine?? To discuss, we welcome friend of the pod and host of the upcoming pod, First Features, Ben Oliphint. But that's not all. We're also joined by girly pop muse, Gaelic football player, single father on vacation, and now a Roman artist of PAIN Paul Mescal in the audio dungeon for a good ol' future pitch sesh in the year 2026 (30:30). Matt's got his Mescal shorts on and his legs are freezing. So please give this a goddamn listen, would you?

We welcome Rusty Featherstone from Will and Rusty's Playdate into the elevator and he brought a friend. None other than the greatest blacksmith, elf, crusader, Trojan War homewrecker, and Nissan marketing executive - Orlando Bloom. We talk all things Bloom and just a lil' bit of Blackhawk Down before pitching three movies in the year 2007 (34:30). This episode played like a classic Orlando flick. A goddamn epic.

Our most timely podcast yet.
In honor of last month's release Megalopolis, friend of the pod Logan Wells and the gents welcome sommelier, nepo pappa, avid Instagram user, and Academy Award winning filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola into the elevator. We talk Mega and what makes Coppola simultaneously one of the greatest but craziest to ever do it. Then we pitch to Coppola in 1993 right off the heels of his last large scale commercial success, Bram Stokers Dracula (34:10).

Today on Elevator Pitch there will be absolutely no elevator pitches! Instead, we welcome Jack Tucker into the zoom room for a celebration of shame. Each year, Jack organizes a list of movies he's ashamed to have never seen and then watches all of them. The movement has spread wildly across Letterboxd, so last month we decided to join him. Now here us speak our shame for nearly two hours. I promise you it's worth it.
