    1. Emollients, usually seen just as skin moisturizers, may play a crucial role in stabilizing cognition as we age. Regular application could be a game-changer.

    2. Beyond skin deep: Applying emollients can reduce pro-inflammatory cytokine levels, hinting at a direct link between skin care and controlling systemic inflammation.

    3. The science is solid—participants in a study were randomized, and there was a control group, bolstering the reliability of findings that emollients are beneficial for cognition and potentially also chronic pain management.

    4. Personal anecdotes and pilot studies suggest that emollient application, including oil massage, may offer relief for chronic pain conditions, including joint pain, arthritis pain, muscle strains and back pain.

    5. Consistency is key. To reap the benefits, emollient application should be a regular part of the routine, at least 1-3 times a week, if not daily.

    6. This research opens doors to more non-pharmacological interventions to alleviate effects of aging, promoting a holistic approach to health, anti-aging and well-being.
