  • Even if you follow the best training plan for your next ultra, our minds can work against us to fall short of our running goal.

But there is a way to take control of your mind so that it works FOR you as opposed to AGAINST you. And all it takes is one mindset shift to completely put that into practice.

And when you develop this mindset shift, it will allow you to achieve any ultrarunning goal you set yourself towards. And yes, it sounds like it’s clickbait, but I credit this mindset shift to a majority of the progress I’ve made in my ultrarunning career.

And this episode will share with you that exact mindset shift and action items on how to implement it in your daily lifestyle.

So whatever big goal you have as an ultrarunner, this will be the episode that will show you how to do it!

In this, we cover why our brains tend to limit us, what the most powerful belief to have as an ultrarunner is, how to destroy negative thinking, and how you can make a plan to achieve any goal you set your mind to as an ultrarunner.

  • When we feel safe on the runs, we can fully enjoy it. And when you take the right precautions to feel safer, it can give you much more peace of mind when you’re out there, while also giving you the best chance to protect yourself in case something extreme happens.

Given the recent horrific news lately on runners losing their lives, I felt it was important to record this topic on running safety to help provide resources and tips to stay safe on the trails (shoutout to Joshua for also recommending the topic).

In this episode, we cover safety precautions you can take on both the roads and trails while running to help give yourself the best chance of reducing harm.

We cover safety precautions from violence from others, weather safety tips, precautious measures to take in case of injury, how to handle inclement weather, and gear to use to help increase safety on the runs.

Thank you for listening to this very important episode of the podcast.

  • Having crew and pacers at an ultra can be an absolute gamechanger and, in my experience, will greatly increase your chances of success on race day. That’s because a good crew and pacer strategy will keep you moving strong, take a lot of the mental thinking off your plate in an ultra, and can get you everything you need without you doing extra work.

But how do you organize a well-rounded crew and strong pacers? And how can you maximize your use of crew and pacer to get the best results. And wait: where do you even FIND crew or pacer?

We cover all of those questions and much more in this episode!

Utilizing my experience both using crew and pacers, and also me being on the crew and pacing for elite athletes like Sally McRae and Scott Traer, I share everything you need to know to have a rock solid crew/pacing strategy for your next ultra.

I also share how to find the best crew/pacers (even if you don’t know any other runners), how to make sure your crew/pacers are aligned with your strategy, and how to know if a crew or pacers is even necessary for your race!

  • Recovery is just as important as the miles when it comes to training for an ultramarathon. Because we put our bodies through so much when it comes to ultrarunning, having a recovery routine and regime is incredibly important when it comes to being a better endurance athlete.

  • Nutrition and fueling is one of the most important topics when it comes to ultrarunning. But here’s the thing: it’s the area most people struggle in.
And since stomach issues is the #1 cause for DNF’s in an ultra, getting your nutrition strategy nailed down is an absolute must when it comes to preparing for your next race!
Over the years of my own racing and working with tons of athletes, I created a process to help out with testing nutrition so that you can avoid upset stomachs, fuel excellently in a race, and feel much better so you can not only avoid stomach issues, but also perform better.
And in this episode, I’m sharing that exact strategy with you!
I share how much food you should be eating, how to test your nutrition strategies, alternate options if you get an upset stomach frequently in your races, and how to apply nutrition in your training.

  • Running an ultra not only requires you to be physically fit; it also requires you to be mentally fit as well. And part of being mentally fit includes being fully confident in yourself and abilities to be able to get across that finish line.

We all struggle with that negative voice in our head that says “you can’t do this”, especially when we are at the halfway point of an ultramarathon. But if you have unshakable confidence that is deeply rooted inside you, you will be able to conquer that voice and any obstacle you face in a race and in your life. This episode will show you the no B.S. way to build unbreakable, sustainable, and real confidence (hint: it goes beyond just shouting answers in the mirror).

We cover how you can rewire your brain to be more confident in your races and training, how you can apply confidence boosting activities in your ultra training, and ways you can combat that negative voice in your head when things get tough.

Thank you so much for listening!
