Life in Perth, Australia, the capital of Western Australia, in the 1980s was a blend of laid-back suburban living and rapid development. The city was relatively isolated but growing, with a strong sense of community. The residents always had felt safe, with children playing outdoors and returning home when the street lights came on. However, that sense of safety was shattered in 1986. Women began to disappear randomly off the streets of Perth. Then in November, a young girl came charging into a corner store claiming she had been kidnapped and raped by a couple. Police canvas the house this brave girl led them to and arrested Catherine and David Birnie. When interviewed, the couple eventually confessed to 4 murders over the span of a month. The couple, separately, led detectives to the grave sites of Mary Nielson, Susannah Candy, Noelene Patterson and Denise Brown. What unraveled was a story of obsessiveness and dark fantasies. This will be a two part story, the first going over Catherine and Davidâs background, giving an insight into their psyche. Part two will be go over the stories of their victims, including the bravery and courage of the woman who escaped.

Randi Trimble was a devoted and loving wife, daughter and speech pathologist. Brian was her quiet, introverted and intelligent husband. After the couple married in September of 2000, they began their life in East Pennsboro Township, Pennsylvania. With the area growing rapidly due to the areaâs safety, sense of community and job opportunities, it was the perfect place for them to live and eventually one day start their family. But the those living near the couple, would learn that no matter how safe you think your neighborhood may be, that evil can happen anywhere. In January of 2003, after returning home from dinner plans, Brian Trimble found the body of his 28-year-old wife, Randi, lying on the cold garage floor in a pool of blood. In sheer panic, he called 911 but unfortunately, Randi didnât survive. She had been stabbed a total of 27 times. With no forensic evidence, no witnesses and Brian with a rock solid alibi, investigators were left at a standstill. Until one day, they would learn of a plan created by Brian Trimble and his coworker and friend Blaine Norris to film their very own horror movie. And it wouldnât be long before investigators learned that the two brought their horror movie to life. This episode shows us that evil is everywhere â even sometimes behind the scenes in what appears to be the most successful of marriages.

In the early 1970s, Edwin and Marsha Becker thought theyâd found the perfect place to start their familyâa quiet two-flat home nestled in the Chicago suburbs. The upper apartment would be theirs, the lower rented out for extra income. It all seemed ideal. The tenants were kind. The neighborhood, peaceful. But peace never lasts when something else is living in the house. It began subtly. Phones falling from their cradles. Cabinet doors slamming shut. Heavy footsteps echoing through empty rooms. Something was in the house and whatever it was, it wanted their attention. Whispers among neighbors spoke of deathâof lives cut short within those walls. The Beckers believed they werenât alone. And they were right. Desperate, Marsha pleaded with priests, ministers, psychicsâanyone who might help. Most turned them away. But in 1971, two reverends answered the call. What followed was the first televised exorcism in American historyâcaptured by NBC cameras. Listen in to hear the chilling true story of the Becker haunting. A story that the Beckerâs couldnât wait to leave behind.

In the heart of Illinois, the Joliet Correctional Center stands as one of the most infamous prisons in United States historyâ where shadows of the past still linger. Opened in 1858, Joliet quickly gained a dark reputation. Over its 140 years of operation, it housed thousands of inmates, from hardened criminals to political prisoners, many of whom never left its cold, stone walls alive. From brutal riots and deadly escapes to grim experiments and tragic deaths, the prisonâs history is chilling. The true toll inside remains unknown, but itâs believed thousands perished behind those gates, often preferring the death penalty over a sentence at Joliet. Since its closing in 2002, Joliet has become a magnet for ghost hunters and thrill-seekers alike. Visitors report eerie footsteps echoing in empty halls, unexplained cold spots, and even sightings of shadowy figures lurking in the dark. Paranormal investigators swear the prison is one of the most haunted places in Illinois. For this story, we step inside Joliet to explore the chilling history and uncover the restless spirits that seemingly refuse to rest.

In the heart of Moscow lies Bitsevski Park â a vast stretch of green with over 500 plant species, 33 types of mammals, and 79 species of birds. Locals come here to jog, play, and soak in nature. Among them, a quiet group gathers to play chess beneath the trees. Years ago, sat a teenage boy named Alexander Pichushkin. Quiet. Observant. He played chess with precision â not just for the love of the game, but for the control it offered. At school, he had been mocked, bullied, made to feel small. But in the park, with his fingers on the pieces, he felt powerful. No one knew that beneath his calm demeanor, a darker game was taking shape. In 1992, the first move was made. A man was found dead in the park â the beginning of a string of murders that would stretch for years. Pichushkin wasnât just playing games anymore. He was chasing a goal: to kill as many people as there are squares on a chessboard. 64. He became known as The Chessboard Killer. This story is a grim reminder: sometimes, evil isnât hiding in the shadows â itâs sitting across the table, waiting for your next move.

Most of us are familiar with California - the land of sunshine, palm trees, and dreams. It's where stars are born, and where many chase the glittering promise of fame. Among them was Jasmine Fiore, a striking young woman with high ambitions. She wasnât just a pretty faceâJasmine was an aspiring model and a savvy businesswoman, determined to carve out her place in the spotlight. For a time, her journey took her to Las Vegas, a city equally known for its dazzle and danger. It was there that she crossed paths with Ryan Jenkins. Their connection was instant and electric. Within just days of meeting, they decided to marry. Ryan, a Canadian-born real estate developer, had just wrapped filming a reality TV show for VH1, riding his own wave of fast-earned fame. But the relationship was definitely not the fairytale it appeared to be on the outside. Their relationship was full of many arguments that at times, turned physical. After a trip to San Diego in August 2009, Jasmine was discovered, brutally murdered. There had also been evidence of an attempt to cover up her identification. Eyes quickly turned to Ryan, but he had fled, no where to be found. As the investigation continued, the detectives uncovered a history of abuse as well as surveillance videos to help solve the case. However, no one could have prepared themselves for the way this case would end.

In America today, more than 200,000 cold cases sit unsolvedâeach one a story without an ending. Every year, around 5,000 new names are added to that growing list. Behind every case is a familyâgrieving, waiting, and hoping for answers that never seem to come. For many, justice feels like a distant dream. That was the reality for the family and friends of Mary Catherine Edwards. To those who knew her, she was simply Catherineâa vibrant, kind-hearted woman with a magnetic smile and a soul built for teaching. At 33 years old, she had just begun her dream job as a second-grade teacher in Beaumont, Texas. Her classroom quickly became a sanctuary for kids facing chaos in their own lives. To them, Catherine was more than a teacherâshe was hope. But in January of 1995, everything changed. On a quiet Saturday afternoon, Catherine was found brutally murdered in the bathroom of her townhouse. The news shook the community to its core. Who would want to hurt someone like her? There were no immediate answers. No suspects. No justice. And so, her caseâlike so many othersâwent cold. For 26 long years, those who loved Catherine lived in the shadow of the unknown. Everyone haunted by the silence. But sometimes, silence doesn't last forever. Thanks to advances in DNA technology and the relentless efforts of determined investigators, the truth finally came to light. In 2024, Catherineâs killer was identified and brought before a courtâclosing a chapter that began nearly three decades earlier. This is a story that reminds us that even the kindest souls can be touched by darknessâand that evil can hide in the most unexpected places.

Massillon is a small city in northeast Ohio, steeped in tradition and pride. Known as the "City of Champions," its historic streets, close-knit community, and legendary high school football culture make it feel like the kind of place where everyone knows your name. It was here that 25-year-old Nick Stein came looking for a fresh startâto support his family and build a better future. But in February 2017, Nick vanished without a trace. His phone, social media, and bank accounts activity all stopped suddenly. As investigators dug deeper, attention turned to the people he was living withâthree roommates: Kristin, Bryan, and Carl. Bryan had brought Nick to town with the promise of work, but the stories the roommates told didnât add up. They were evasive, inconsistent, and clearly hiding something. For nearly a year, the case went coldâwith investigators following every lead that came in - until one of the roommates, facing prison on unrelated charges, finally talked. What they revealed would unravel a chilling tale of betrayal, violence, and a cover-up buried deep beneath the surface of this quiet Ohio town.

Christie Holt and Marcus Garvin grew up in a little town called Homecroft, Indiana. Christie was raised with four siblings, but at just 12 years old she was forced out of her family home. She found shelter with her aunt and cousins. Marcus, on the other hand, was brought up by his grandparents. Their paths crossed at Perry Township High School. Christie was 16, and in Marcus, she found something she hadn't experienced before: a sense of being seen. For someone who had always felt like she didnât quite belong, Marcus felt like home. Their connection was intense, immediate. Young love blossomed quickly, and the two became inseparable. But while their romance started with tenderness, the years that followed would tell a different story. After graduation, the warmth Marcus once showed began to shift. He grew possessive, jealousâconvinced Christie was being unfaithful, though there was no reason to believe it. Slowly, his love became control. His affection turned to accusations. Friends and family saw the signs and tried to pull Christie away, but she had become isolated. She clung to the belief that no one understood Marcus the way she did. She searched tirelessly for the good in him, even as the darkness grew. Then came July 2021, where within the wooded area to the rear of the motel a body was discovered. The story that began with young love in a quiet Indiana town had ended in tragedy. What happened in those final days? Had Marcusâs obsession finally turned fatal?

With a population slightly over 2000, Chuluota, FL offers a peaceful lifestyle with close-knit community vibes. Just a short 30 minute drive from Orlando, residents of Chuluota enjoy the quiet environment, minimal traffic, and low crime rate making it an ideal family-friendly location. Margaret and Chad Amato chose Chuluota to raise their 3 sons: Jason, Cody and Grant. A seemingly picture perfect family would prove otherwise on a fateful day. In January 2019, authorities discovered the bodies of Chad, Margaret, and Cody Amato. Suspicion quickly fell on the other member of the family living in the home, who had not been located: Grant. Grant had had recently been kicked out of the house after stealing money from family members and being sent to rehab to deal with an obsession and his depression. After an intense interview, Grant maintained his innocence, even though the circumstantial evidence was overwhelming. Despite the lack of physical evidence, authorities arrested Grant for the triple homicide and took him to trial. This case proves obsessions can turn to madness, making even the most unsuspecting people commit brutal acts of violence.

Darke County, Ohio, is a quiet patch of the Midwestâwhere over 51,000 residents enjoy a slower pace of life. Life there is simple, tight-knit, and steeped in community spirit. At the heart of that community were Jack and Linda Myers. Married for seven years, both had come from previous marriages, blending their families into one loving unit. Lindaâs adult three children and Jackâs son meshed like pieces of a puzzle. Together, they lived on a 40-acre farm, where family cookouts and lazy afternoons were the norm. Jack and Linda were the anchorsâsteady, kind, and generous. But in 2003, the serenity of that small-town life was shattered. One March morning, the Myerâs four-year-old great-grandson arrived at preschool aloneâhis clothes soaked in blood. When deputies arrived at the Myers farm, they were met with a violent scene. Everyone wondered who could do this? And why? The couple was loved in the area. With leads scarce, fear spread. Then came a tip from a family friend and suddenly, the investigation turned toward the unlikeliest of suspects, someone no one would have imagined. This story reminds us that even in the most peaceful places, darkness can hide in plain sightâand that the greatest betrayals sometimes come from those closest to us.

From the moment a child is born, a motherâs life changes forever. She gives her love freely, her time unconditionally, and her wisdom piece by piece, hoping to raise a kind soul. She teaches right from wrong, instills values, and dreams of the day her child will walk confidently into the world â carrying a bit of her heart with them. And when they finally leave the nest, every mother hopes sheâs done enough. That her child will thrive, find happiness, and maybe one day return â not in need, but in love. To visit. To care. To give back. Margaret Craig believed in that dream. At 71, she had spent a lifetime working hard, raising her family, giving all she had. She looked forward to quiet days, warm memories, and the comfort of being surrounded by those she loved. What she never imagined⊠was that one of them would turn on her. And as horrifying as that is⊠what came next was even darker.

Stretching across 22% of the state of New Jersey, the Pine Barrens is a vast reserve of wilderness. If youâre from New Jersey, youâve likely heard the stories this Jersey Devil, said to stalk the Pine Barrens for nearly three centuries. Part bat, part beast, and all terror, itâs a tale that begins as early as 1735. The legend tells of a woman, giving birth to a child which then turned into a grotesque monster, with features such as bat like wings, claws for hands and deer-like antlers. Throughout the 1800s, sightings trickled in â farmers finding mutilated livestock, travelers glimpsing a flying creature, hunters hearing unidentifiable screeches through the trees. But it was January of 1909 that shook the region. For six straight days, panic gripped New Jersey as thousands reported encounters with this beastly creature, including Police officers. Even now, the legend is alive with people still reporting sightings of the Jersey Devil.
So, is the Jersey Devil real? Or is it just a tale twisted through generations â folklore born of fear and kept alive by the darkness in the trees?

Pepperell, Massachusetts is a small, suburban town located in Middlesex County, known for its picturesque New England charm. Frank Bowen and his daughters Tina and Karen made their home in Pepperell. Just one year prior, they'd lost their wife and mother to a cruel and lingering battle with cancer. Frank, now a single father, was strugglingâworking long hours to keep a roof over their heads, often leaving the girls alone in the house. The girls, in their grief, tried reaching out to their motherâpleading for a sign. What they got... was something else entirely. At first, Frank dismissed their stories of these random noises and odd occurrences. Grief does strange things to the mind. But then came that nightâDecember, 1986âwhen everything changed. After being tormented by these strange occurrences for months, the Bowens came face to face with what was causing the nightmare, but it was nothing like they expected. The Bowens were the victims of a sick mind. This sick mind would also go on to ruin the Gustafson family in the most horrific way imaginable.

Deep in the ancient waterways of Xochimilco, lies a place that most people would never dare to tread. This is the infamous Isla de las Muñecas, the Island of the Dolls. It all began in the mid-20th century when a man named Don Julian Santana Barrera, sought refuge on this island. But what he didnât know is that the island that seemed like the perfect escape had long been home to something far darker. One day shortly after his arrival, Don stumbled upon a horrifying sightâa lifeless young girl, the cause of death a tragic drowning. As if answering a twisted call, a childâs doll appeared on the waterâs surface, drifting aimlessly toward Don. He assumed it must have been the drowned girls, and so he hung the doll from a tree, thinking it would honor her memory. That night and every night after that, the spirit of the little girl began to visit him. Desperate to appease her restless soul, Don began collecting more dolls. But these dolls did not bring peace. Instead, they seemed to attract more... unwanted visitors. Don would often speak of shadowy figures, disembodied voices and unexplainable noises. Were these the spirits that had always haunted the island, or had they been awakened by the dolls themselves? Even decades after Donâs passing, all that remains today are the dolls, hanging from every tree, their lifeless eyes always staring. Tune in if you dare, to hear the chilling tale of the Island of the Dollsâwhere the past never truly dies, and the dolls... never stop watching.
