On this episode, our daring hosts continue their journey through the formularies of the Anglican Way with a discussion of the Thirty-Nine Articles. Steven and Richard work through Article 28. Was the Lord's Supper meant to be reserved, carried about, lifted up, or worshipped? Do Anglicans believe in Eucharistic Sacrifice? How does Article 28 work in concert with the Holy Communion service itself? All these topics and more will be discussed with levity and charity.

Five sources for learning more about Anglican eucharistic theology:
1. Richard Hooker
This edition is in modern English and here, or in the wonderful original, it beautifully illustrates the main Anglican position.

2. Thomas Cranmer
This e-text is from the chief composer and editor of the Book of Common Prayer.

3. John Jewell
A patron of Hooker, his 'Apology for the Church of England' was required to be kept in Anglican churches for hundreds of years. This is his important work on the sacraments.

4. Peter Martyr Vermigli
The Italian reformer who taught Jewell when Cranmer and others brought Vermigli to England to teach theology at Oxford. He had a role in editing the prayer book and maybe even wrote one of the prayer book exhortations.

5. Torrance Kirby
Probably the leading expert on Hooker in the world writes a great article on the subject of the Eucharist. (When meeting in person he used this wonderful phrase to describe Hooker's eucharistic understanding: 'Real Instrumental Presence'.

Dr. Miles Smith joins us once again to discuss his latest book on religion and the early American republic. How did Americans interact with religion in the post-revolution antebellum United States? How did it differ with how Americans--Christian and non-Christian--interact with religion today? Is there wisdom in the outlook of the early republic that we can gain for our own context, marked as it is with "exvangelical memoirs" and the like?Tallis’ Canon recorded by Steven Dixon. https://open.spotify.com/artist/7F8cmGiEh0LBxINKGLfrvt

On this month's episode, our daring hosts continue their journey through the formularies of the Anglican Way with a discussion of the Thirty-Nine Articles. Steven and Richard work through Articles 22-24. What is the historic Anglican view of purgatory, pardons, worshipping and adoration as well of images as of relics, and also invocation of saints? Why is a proper authority necessary for appointing men to preach the Word of God and administer His sacraments? Why must the public worship of the church be in a language understood by the people? All these topics and more will be discussed with levity and charity.

Dr. Bob Pardon joins us to discuss cults and spiritually abusive groups. We define what we mean by these phrases, the profile of a spiritually abusive leader, and the cultural conditions that make for a proliferation of sects, some of which are heretical and some of which are not (at least on paper). We also discuss how people get recruited into and involved with such groups as well as how faithful pastors can effectively minister to those who have escaped such circles.

On this episode, we interview Dr. Kyle Hughes, who serves as a deacon and director of catechesis at Christ the King Anglican Church in Marietta, GA. We discuss what it means to live in a "convulsed age," the goal of Christian education, the formation of the soul, the cultivation of virtue, and where we ought to turn to for resources in this important pursuit. Dr. Hughes draws our attention to the wisdom and insight of the church fathers as sources to better equip teachers and catechists.[
