  • Today, we have a special guest, Chad Tentinger, a fourth-generation cattle farmer from Marcus, Iowa. Combining his passion for cattle and construction, Chad founded TenCorp, Inc. in 2007 and remains deeply involved in the cattle industry. He has partnered with local producers to build two state-of-the-art turn-key cattle operations.

Chad is here to introduce Legacy Beef Co-op, a revolutionary cattle producer co-op that bases cattle pricing on the Boxed Beef Cutout, reflecting true consumer demand. We'll explore how this co-op aims to provide higher revenue potential, economies of scale, and favorable processing obligations, ensuring cattle producers are not forced to sell in markets influenced by external forces.

We'll discuss Legacy Beef Co-op's new packing plant investment opportunity for Midwest family farm beef producers, offering them a share of retail beef profits and participation in the Cattlemen’s Heritage Beef Company. Chad will share insights on the project's timing, structure, and how it benefits producers, including ideal membership and the future of meat production.

Join us for an enlightening episode as we delve into the innovative world of Legacy Beef Co-op with Chad Tentinger. Stay tuned!

Introducing Legacy Beef Co-op.A cattle producer co-op that will base the selling of cattle on the Boxed Beef Cutout. A pricing system reflective of consumer demand. In addition to ownership in Cattlemen’s Heritage Beef Company, the co-op will provide these benefits:Cattle Producers should not be forced to sell their cattle in a market influenced by outside forces, that is not reflective of true consumer driven demand and values. How is Legacy Beef Coop going to help with this?Higher revenue potentialEconomy of ScaleProcessing ObligationsLegacy Beef Co-op today announced a new packing plant investment opportunity that would give family farm beef producers in throughout the Midwest in, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri and South Dakota access to a larger portion of the retail beef dollar. How does this work with ownership?Through ownership in Legacy Beef Co-op, beef producers would become investors in the Cattlemen’s Heritage Beef Company facility in Mills County, Iowa, and participate in its profitability. They would also become suppliers to the facility and enjoy economies of scale typically available only to large corporate feedlots, including pricing based on retail beef value (Boxed Beef Cutout) rather than the CME model, as well as more favorable delivery alternatives.https://legacybeefcoop.com/

  • Building Financial Independence in Farming: A Conversation with Mary Jo Irmen

    Introduction:

Today, we're excited to have Mary Jo Irmen, founder of WithoutTheBank.com, joining us to discuss how she helps farmers achieve financial independence.

Mary Jo, could you start by giving us a brief overview of your background and how you got involved in helping farmers with their finances?

It was never my intent to teach the world about the Infinite Baking Concept much less write two books. However, sometimes in life things find you and in the 2008 the stock market crash lead me to the Infinite Banking Concept. That was all I needed, FiscalBridge, LLC was born then and there. I quickly found people were not comfortable with handling their own finances because the industry leads us to believe we are not smart enough. This was a truth no one told me about, it is my mission to share it with all and make sure it’s done so in a way you understand and succeed.

Understanding the Concept of Financial Independence

Mary Jo, many farmers may not be familiar with the idea of financial independence. Can you explain what it means in the context of farming? How does achieving financial independence differ from simply turning a profit in farming? What if I am skeptical? What is Human Life Value? How much insurance can I have? What if you are not insurable? How old is this concept? Can I use policies I already have?Where do I find my money to start?

The Role of Banking and Finance in Farming

How does your approach differ from conventional banking? What are some common financial challenges that farmers face, and how do you help them overcome these challenges? With your program where do traditional banks fit now?

    Building Wealth and Stability

What are some key strategies you recommend for farmers looking to secure their financial future? Can you share any success stories or examples of farmers who have significantly improved their financial situation through your guidance?

    Addressing Common Misconceptions

What are some of these misconceptions, and how do you debunk them? What advice do you have for farmers who may be hesitant to explore alternative financial strategies? Can you mix and match?

    Looking Ahead

As the agricultural industry continues to evolve, what trends do you see emerging in terms of financial management for farmers?

    Conclusion/Summary/Challenge

  • IN-STUDIO INTERVIEW GUESTS:

     Sue Brakhane, Chief Agronomist

 Travis Biggs, Imaging Services Director

INTERVIEW FLOW AND TOPICS (OR GOALS)

    - Circle back to who we are as a company, reference founding partners Danny Assman and Ryan Schroeder and their original Farm4Profit interview.

    - Emphasize the differences of Terraplex as a drone sales company (our emphasis on service) REALLY deep dive into services. More than just servicing and repairing drones when they crash, but the after-sale service aspect too. Our customers learn SO MUCH more by spending time with our team at drone delivery. We’re so much more than just a “drone-in-a-box” company. (Expand on how *some* companies sell a drone, then ship ‘em...and you’re done).

    - Our customers will learn more about they’re buying from us, working with our team members – than they will going it alone, watching YouTube videos.

    - Additional Terraplex services expanding into imaging and crop analysis. (Enter importance of having Sue and Travis on our team – what other drone sales company is doing that - ? )

 What can farmers learn about their operations with our imaging drones? Gonna learn more about what you’re buying from us - with our team members – than you will go alone, watching YouTube videos.

 Touch on agronomic insights of crop analysis. How understanding MORE about crops can lead to better decision making with fungicide or foliar application. Ability to go back of WHERE we need to spray, WHAT we need to spray (and how often)

    - Agronomic update. What is the incredibly wet start to this planting season doing right now?

  • Balance 4 Ward

Cattle feeding company based out of SW Iowa, focused on helping and creating more opportunities for the mid-market cattlemenLevel the playing field for them so they can compete in the industryWe primarily do two things as a company – We Feed Cattle. Provide Additional Services to Cattle Feeders to help them make more moneyOne of those services being our Cattle Business SystemsAddressing Challenges in Cattle Ranching: Could you elaborate on the various challenges cattlemen face on a daily basis? In what ways were these challenges impacting your profitability and competitiveness in the industry? As we record in Spring of 2024 what type of a market are we coming out of and what type of market are we currently sitting in?Cattle Business SystemsWhat is it? Well, we recognize that cattlemen wear multiple hats every day and deal with lots of different people : Examples (scrap the pens, processing cattle, oh and your order buyer is calling you saying he’s got a good deal on cattle, while your broker is wanting you to trade the crush and hedge cattle
etc..)We faced the same thing in our operation, and therefore we weren’t competing in the industry. So we spent time and focused on who was winning in the industry and concluded that we needed to develop a team of people to help us align all of our decisions in our operation and keep us accountableWhy does CBS work? The Concept Behind Cattle Business Systems: What inspired you to develop a team-based approach to tackling these challenges? How does Cattle Business Systems aim to align decisions within a cattle operation and ensure accountability?Empowering Cattlemen:What are ways we can empower cattlemen to make informed decisions? What advantages do some producers have over others? What is the vision of Balance4Ward for the future of the cattle market? What indicators have your crew/team been paying attention to?The SaleSo, Cattle Business Systems, is a monthly membership, that includes a monthly meeting and gives them full access to our team along with full transparency of what we are doing in our own operation to help give them confidence to make decisions and get more of an equal advantage in the industryOur job is to meet with our clients every month, identify opportunities, help them prioritize those, and execute if needed. And if guys need help executing on those decisions, we have additional services through our platform that we can help them do that – B4W Advantage, B4W Feeders, New Balance Commodities, B4W OperationsWhy Balance4Ward?We do it, we have skin in the gameTotally transparent on what we are doing in our own operation at B4WEverything from risk management, feed, operations, buying/selling of cattle, cornThere is no conflict of interest – not trying to margin you into something elseExample: How does this decision affect all the other ones I have to make in my operationProactive in everything we do (18 months) – we try to maximize/ be the best at profit per head – not about to volume to usSeparate the farmer vs. The feeder Contact us for more information. The heart of this episode lies in understanding the intricacies of 831(b) Plans and how they offer a unique opportunity for business owners to retain up to 50% of their risk and premiums. By placing funds in a tax-deferred 831(b) Plan, businesses can build a funded reserve for potential losses, thus gaining greater control over claims and even participating in underwriting profits within their plan. It's an ideal strategy for savvy business owners willing to take calculated risks for greater rewards.

Van also draws parallels between 401(k) and 831(b) accounts, shedding light on their similarities in terms of tax benefits, contribution limits, and compliance requirements. However, the real magic of 831(b) Plans lies in their ability to mitigate various business risks that may not be covered by traditional insurance, such as supply chain interruptions, cybersecurity attacks, and even brand damage.

Delving deeper into the history of 831(b) Microcaptives, Van discusses the legislative milestones and regulatory framework that have shaped their evolution over the years. From the Tax Reform Act of 1986 to the more recent PATH Act of 2015, which increased premium amounts and introduced inflation riders, these legislative developments have made 831(b) Plans an increasingly attractive option for businesses seeking comprehensive risk management solutions.

Join us as we unravel the complexities of Micro-Captive Insurance and discover how it can be a game-changer for your business's risk management strategy. Whether you're a seasoned entrepreneur or just starting out, this episode offers invaluable insights into safeguarding your assets and maximizing rewards in today's dynamic business landscape. Tune in now to learn from the best in the industry and take your risk management strategy to the next level.
