  • As you judge your parents so your personal power suffers.

    The more you want to skip this episode – the more you probably need to listen to it.

    And let’s be clear! You don’t need to ever speak to your parents again, if that is what you’re worried about. You might want to – but you don’t have to, to get the benefit of what I am talking about here. It’s not as intense you might be thinking.

    This episode is about how what happened in your parental dynamics, in your childhood, and in your heritage significantly influences everything and anything that is possible for you as a leader and as a business owner.

    There are 5 reasons for why judging your parents is negatively influencing your ability to lead and be led:

    1. You cut yourself off from human life force. If you walk around thinking you would rather not have had the patterns or the parents you got, it’s like cutting off your roots. And just like trees stand weak, when they don’t have roots, so do humans. You might have very good reasons for not want to be like them or to have anything to do with them (I have coached leaders who have been abused in all kinds horrific ways as children).

    The important thing is to acknowledge that this is where you come from for better and for worse. You are one in the line of many – that’s how you get access to human life force, even if your childhood was a mess and your parents weren’t anywhere close to being “good parents”.

     

    2. You are turned towards the past. When you’re judging your parents, it’s like you’re standing with your back to the future, because you’re looking towards what’s happened in the past and that makes you less powerful in the present.

    3. You are out whack in the order of life. If you’re facing towards the past, you’re looking towards the generation that came before you, rather than towards the next generation. That messes with the way natured intended life to be and it minimises your chance to be supported in life and the power you have available for creation of the future.

     

    4. You become too big for your shoes, which can make you weirdly inflated. When you’re judging your parents, you’re in a way saying: I know better than you, I am better than you, I would never have done what you did. And this might be the case. But you didn’t have their exact childhood and you don’t fully know what it was like to be them.

     

    When the above sentences feel true, it’s like it’s like we are trying to scold our parents and in that sense we become our parents parents or our parents judges and that’s not who we’re meant to be. We are born to be our parents’ children and only when we can be the children are we free to look towards the future and tend to creations that are true to us. (Rather than leaking energy to proving our parents wrong or showing what failures they were.)

     

    5. You have to keep proving that you’re good enough. If you’re judging your parents there will be a deep niggling self doubt. Because if they aren’t good enough – that means you’re made of faulty raw material and maybe that means that you’re no good too.

    The mean voice inside will pop up from time to time wondering what if I am like them or at least partly like them. It’s exhausting to try and prove that you’re different from your parents.

     

    So what can you do instead of staying in harsh judgement?

    What helps is to see a bit more of the generational picture. With whatever snippets of information you have about the generation before you plus thinking about what happened in the world at that time of your parents childhood, it might highlight to you that your father or mother didn’t have an easy time, and...

  • So you’re trying to figure out how to find and choose a coach? Maybe you’ve had coaching in the past, and it didn’t feel like a good fit. Maybe you’ve never had coaching.

    Now you’re wondering how you will know if someone is a good coach for you.

    It’s a big leap, and it’s a big investment (whether it’s your company’s money or your own), so you want to make sure you choose the right coach for you.

    In this episode I share some of the questions to ask and the things to look out for when you’re looking for a coach (and why these are so important), including:

    Do you feel comfortable with them? Comfortable enough to share some really deep and personal stuff with them? Comfortable enough for total honesty?Where do they come from? Why did they get started on coaching? What do they believe their coaching is for? What’s their philosophy, and what are the beliefs that they hold about life and leadership?What is their worldview? What is their secret (or not so secret) agenda?

  • We are very aware these days that men get paid more, get more funding, and as a generalisation ask for so much more
 assuming they will get it.

    Growing up, us women don't get taught to ask for that much. Instead we are encouraged to be helpful.

    We’re taught to be â€˜good girls’.

    To be grateful for what we’ve got.

    To be careful what we ask for.

    To be cautious and humble.

    And when we do ask for something, we tend to ask for just a little bit more
 to have something just a little bit better.

    But this doesn’t help us change the system.

    We women are extraordinary.

    It’s time you ask for more.

    To ask for what you really want.

    To ask for what feels outrageously ‘unreasonable’!

    In this episode, I talk about how you can figure out what you REALLY want, how to ask for it (and to have the confidence to negotiate) - and why women having more will make things better for everyone.

  • Loui Törnqvist is the Managing Director of Edition Wilhelm Hansen, the largest and oldest music publisher in the Nordics. She became the CEO aged just 26, and has run the company for 14 years. 

    Now 42, she lives in outer Copenhagen with her husband, three children, dog and chickens. Her garden is her zen space. 

    Loui is also the chairperson of the board of Koda, one of the biggest and most influential music companies in Denmark, with an annual turnover equivalent to ÂŁ128 million. She is passionate about DEI and sustainability in leadership and life generally, and exploring the possibilities in alternative work/life balances. In addition to her other roles, she is also a trained psychotherapist, and created an organic skin care company in 2012.

  • Dalia Weinreb is a registered dietitian who has been in clinical practice for 15 years. Living and working in Cambridge in the UK, Dalia is a mother of three children and deeply passionate about women's health through the life cycle. Her clinical interests span from gastrointestinal health and the gut microbiome, to autoimmune disease and hormonal health. 

    In addition, Dalia is fascinated by how our relationship with food impacts the way we engage with life and all it has to offer. Dalia treats many women with disordered eating and feels very strongly about fighting for true recovery by their sides.

  • Hazel Beasley is a Board Member, Engineer and Consultant who works in an organisation that doesn't believe in traditional hierarchy and titles.

    While having young children Hazel worked as a teacher but when she was ready to transition back into engineering she found it more tricky than she had imagined. Lots of people had unhelpful opinions and she also found herself experiencing unconscious bias in several ways.

    After a number of jobs, Hazel is now thrilled to be working at the consulting firm Hatmil, a company that embraces Teal leadership and encourages employees to bring their whole selves to work. The Teal approach means there is traditional hierarchy and Hazel shares more about how this really works. 

    Hazel is also the first elected female employee director on the Hatmill Operations Board.

  • I’m so excited to welcome you to Season 2 of the Female Inner Power podcast. 

    In this season, we’ll be delving further into the topic of female empowerment in male-dominated spaces, and in particular the experiences of women on boards. Board positions can bring prestige and influence, and unlock so many possibilities for women, providing not only influence and status but also flexibility. But we are underrepresented on boards, and this is something I felt was important to explore.

    One key piece in securing a board position is investing in your personal development. But this often seems to fall by the wayside for women. And the reason I hear most frequently about why a woman doesn’t invest in her personal development is not money

    In this solo episode I give you five different tips for how you can make space for your personal growth and invest in yourself, even when there is just very little time. I talk mindset, micro habits, using your ears, going deep quickly – and just how much you can fit into 10 minutes or even less.

    Because it’s not about how much information you have time to soak up – it’s about how you let yourself be impacted and transformed by it. Find out how teeny, tiny pockets of time can absolutely transform everything that’s possible for you in terms of how much impact you can have, and how much you can love yourself and your life.

    Kim Meninger is a leadership coach and TEDx speaker focused on empowering professionals and organisations to reach new heights by making it easier to be human at work. 

    As a certified coach with a degree in psychology, Kim offers strategies to overcome impostor syndrome and grow professionals’ overall confidence, visibility, and influence. She believes that an authentic commitment to inclusion, belonging and psychological safety is the key to long-term corporate success. 

    Kim also hosts The Impostor Syndrome Files podcast and leads a weekly Leading Humans discussion forum, which is free and open to all.

    Kim has a BA in psychology and an MBA from Boston College. She is an ICF Professional Certified Coach with certifications in confidence, career, executive and leadership development coaching. Kim also holds a certificate in Executive Leadership from Cornell University. Prior to coaching, she held leadership positions at EMC Corporation and Monster Worldwide.
