Hey friend!
Have you ever wondered how important pillows are to the overall styling of your home? If you haven't, you SHOULD because pillows alone can complete the look of your room, make your home feel more or less inviting and can generally speaking, make your home decor look flat or elevated.
A lot of power is held in a 20 x 20 rectangle!
In today's episode, you are getting to be a fly on the wall inside a LIVE coaching session inside of my monthly membership, The Collective, as I chat with the members about all things pillows:
1. How many pillows should you have on a couch?
2. What type of fill is best?
3. How do you mix patterns?
4. Where do you place lumbars?
5. Do you match pillows from couch to loveseat?
6. What do you do with sectionals?
AND MORE...
As a fly on the wall, you won't see the visuals I have created to answer these questions. Want to? Join The Collective here.
Happy styling!

Hey friend!
It's here - the most anticipated episode all year. The What's Hot & What's Not in home design in 2025. This year I gathered my insight from Better Homes and Garden, House Beautiful, Southern Living and Elle Decor. Surprisingly this year, more than any other years, most of these lists were in alignment and agreement with each other - not many outliers.
Of course, I added my personal opinion about some of them, where others I was in complete agreement and even some where I was in disagreement. :)
Trend or not, recommended design choices by fancy-pants designers or not, the ultimate goal here is for you to LOVE YOUR HOME. To release any expectations that your homes should be Pinterset perfect or Instagram worthy. Your home should be a reflection of you and if that means you put carpet into your bathroom because you love the way if feels on your feet when you step out of the bath (you'll have to listen to the episode to know WHY in 2025 I'm talking about carpeted bathrooms), if it makes you happy - it's OK. ;)
Joking aside, I know that making decisions in your home is a big deal. It's frustrating, laborious and connected to a lot of things that have nothing to do with the ultimate goal of what it looks like: money spent, compromising styles, honoring grandma's heirlooms, etc. If you are ready for a bit of guidance and a lot of support as you balance it all in 2025 - I invite you to book a Decorating SOS Coaching Call. Together we'll create a plan that fits your needs while matching your personality, budget and timeline.

Hey Friend!
Welcome to 2025 and a brand new series on the fig & farm (at home) podcast. Every Tuesday I'll be answering listener questions in my new Dear Dani series. Have a question that you want answered? Leave it here: [email protected]
Today's question comes from Amanda who wants to know how to make her home look less disjointed. The 'fancy' word we use in the design world is 'cohesive' and the goal is to do just that, but it takes a bit of work. In this episode I'm sharing 5 quick tips so you can make your home look and feel cohesive when you aren't entirely sure where to start.
5 Easy ways to make your home look cohesive
1. Learn your design style (aka your aesthetic): pay attention to the all the details of the things you gravitate to time and time again.
2. Write those details down.
3. Leave your card at home and go on a field trip to your favorite home decor store. Act as-if you are making selections and see if the things you would choose match with the design elements you noticed in tip 1. If they do...you're on to your aesthetic. If they don't...go back to tip 1 and dive in a bit more.
4. Using your list, go through the items in your home and start decluttering items that don't match that aesthetic or design style, keeping the items that do.
5. Shop your home. Once the extra items are removed, now you have the foundation for shopping your home instead of shopping the store whenever inspiration to re-decorate a room strikes
Happy styling!!

Hey friend!
Have you ever set goals for your home? We set new goals or make resolutions each year - for better health, better fitness, learning a new skill...but what about goals we have for our homes?
In this episode I'm sharing the importance of reflecting on how your home served you this past year (or if you served it) and how to make goals for your home that ultimately make you feel better about the place you lay your head each night.
Goals can by physical with a tactical, tangible result or they can be social/emotional - tied to the feelings you have surrounding your home. Acknowledging the social/emotional goals you have for your home is just as important (if not, more so) than addressing the physical goals first.
The art of creating goals for your home comes from reflecting on the ways your home met your needs and being honest about the steps toward remediation during the next year. Asking yourself what changes need to be made and what help you may need to accomplish those goals is a critical part of the journey.
Grab a notebook and a pen - you're going to need it to for this episode.

Hey friend!
Have you ever wondered how you blend different wood tones or how to honor your child's artwork in a way that looks intentional and well put together rather than a haphazard selection or placement? Maybe you're considering buying a new couch or replacing your dining room table, but you're stuck with decision overwhelm. The way I see it? You have two choices? Do nothing and resign to the idea that you'll just live with what you have no matter your desire for change OR make the first step toward action. In today's episode I'm talking with Dee during a Decorating SOS Call about creating a cohesive, warm, inviting open concept area in her home. It's her first action step toward reaching the goals she has for her home. The rooms in question are her kitchen, dining room, living room and entryway. With a recent fresh coat of paint (going from yellow to a warm white), the foundation for every other change has been made. But Dee's wondering what she should do first.
Does she buy the couch, hang the art, replace the dining table?
In this episode you get to be a fly on the wall as I talk to her about choosing a color palette (red or blue), honoring her grandchild's artwork and hanging a gallery wall - all while saving her AT LEAST $2000 when the recommendation is to NOT buy a new credenza or dining room table.
Are you ready to reach the goals you have for your home - taking the first step toward creating a home you delight in? Book a Decorating SOS Coaching Call.

Hey friend!
In part 2 of the Craving Simplicity Holiday Series we're exploring how tradition and core memories directly lead to confident holiday decorating, but that decorating confidence seems to be packed away with the ornaments at the end of the holidays. So what is it about holiday decorating that allows us to roll with the punches, decorate confidently, experiment with new items and do it all joyfully when the rest of the year we stay stuck in indecision, paralysis or decision fatigue?
In this episode we're exploring how tradition and core memories are usually at the heart of holiday decorating. Taking that same concept and applying it to story telling in your home the rest of the year is the mission. The story of YOU lies in your traditions and core memories and it's those stories that should be on display January - October!
Ready to learn how to story tell in your home? Book a Decorating SOS Coaching Call - I'd be honored to help you!

Hey friend!
Have you ever wondered what a Decorating SOS call is like? In a one hour call over zoom you can expect to cover A LOT - like you'll see I did with Nicole. Her list was long:
1. What area rug to put under the table.
2. Should she paint her table white?
3. How to style her kitchen counters.
4. What to do about the chairs in her living room.
5. How can she hide her old air conditioner.
6. Should she paint her credenza blue?
Not only did we answer all of those questions, but we went shopping too - finding a companion rug for her dining room that would look cohesive with the one in her living room. Then styling school was in session as Nicole had items prepared for us to experiment and play around with as she styled her kitchen counter with guidance from the other side of the world.
If YOU want guidance like this - someone to answer you questions, to challenge the way you've been viewing your home for the past ten years and to offer ideas and suggestions specific to your space while also striving to save you MORE money than you spend...a Decorating SOS Call might be the perfect place to start!
Looking for the perfect gift? Buy them a Decorating SOS Call!!!
1. Send me an email at [email protected] and let me know you'd like to gift someone else.
2. I will send you a special link to purchase that doesn't require booking the call on the calendar.
3. Check your email - I'll send you a digital gift certificate that you can print out to gift a friend!!
Easy peas! How I would have LOOOOVVVEED a gift like this!
And don't forget to GIFT YOURSELF. Buy now and get started in the new year!! Book your call here.

Hey friend,
Every year it's the same. And every year I vow for it to be different. The holidays do something to me that ignite a desire to slow down, take it easy, to not overcommit my calendar. And every year, even with the best intentions, I end up feeling like time went by way to quickly, I missed the joy of a slower rhythm though I managed to check all the boxes - and I end up feeling disappointed.
I don't think I'm alone in craving simplicity and slowness around the holiday. As a content creator I have the unique privilege to add to the chaos and noise - pushing my favorite products, must haves or home hacks that you absolutely need to try. Or...I can take a stand and say I don't want to add to the noise this holiday.
I'm choosing the latter.
For the next three weeks, we will be focusing on a mini series about Craving Simplicity. No tips, tricks or hacks to try to make your home look ten times prettier tomorrow than it does today. Simplicity - so you can enjoy the holiday sights and sounds with those you love most, in the place you share together...home!
Enjoy the slow!

Hey friend!
As I was preparing my Thanksgiving menu this week, I came across recipes that were nostalgic - tucked away in a box and pulled out once a year, if that. Those recipes? They were written by my mom who passed away six years ago. I haven't had her frozen fruit salad for years - decades even, but it was definitely part of my childhood. Those recipes got me thinking...
HOW ARE YOU TELLING YOUR FAMILY'S STORY IN YOUR HOME DECORATING?
In today's episode, I'm sharing five ideas for decorating with a subtle nod to your family story that go beyond hanging family photos on the wall. These are subtle nods to memories and cherished moments that are too precious to have hidden in a box in the closet.
5 ways to tell your story in home decorating:
1. Understand your decorating style: There's a direct correlation to understanding your style and decorating with confidence. Confident choices allow you to move away from the generic, bed in the bag, pieces and into more nuanced, subtle decision making. It's there that you'll find your story.
2. Out of the box artwork: Artwork doesn't have to be framed to be considered art. Hanging collections made from special interests or hobbies can make a beautiful, unique to your story piece of art. Collections of vintage cameras, musical instruments, sporting equipment immediately come to mind. Artwork of special locations directly tied to family history - location of proposal, wedding, etc. aren't overtly shouting "I was here - everyone take notice." Instead they're serving as reminders of how important that special memory is to you and your family.
3. Special interests and hobbies: As above, displaying remnants of those special interests or hobbies, rather than storing them away in boxes for a peek every once in a while can be a nuanced, whimsical and delightful way to add character to your home that item from Target just can't provide.
4. Family heirlooms: Mixing and matching old and new makes such a delightful curated look in your home while providing opportunities for them to have a second chapter. If you don't like their original state, try modifying it to make it fit more of your current aesthetic.
5. Family history: Stories or recipes written down and framed, ticket stubs of first dates, vintage clocks set to birth times of your babies, wedding china out of the box and displayed as an installation in your dining room are all examples of living history. Getting them out of the box, dusted off and serving as reminders of who you are add a delightful touch to your home.

Hey friend...
The stress of hosting for the holidays is real. You've been thinking about the menu for weeks, you've deep cleaned like you haven't done since last year, and you think you've thought through just about everything. This week, week 5 in our five part series: Getting your home holiday ready!, is all about making sure things don't fall through the cracks and leave you scrambling at the end.
Do you have enough chairs? Checking that this week.
What will the baby eat? Checking that this week.
Are you pulling out wrinkled napkins that were put away last Thanksgiving?
Yup...checking that this week.
This five part series is designed to save you the unwelcome and sometimes unimaginable stress that surrounds the holidays. So whether it's this holiday or next Easter that you'll be hosting, earmark this for the next time you need to prepare ahead of time, leaving you enough time to enjoy your guests and not sweat the small stuff.
And, as part of implementation week, you're practicing setting the holiday table - so the food you just spent hours, days, and even weeks preparing doesn't look silly on a lackluster design. It's not to late to learn a quick tip or two inside my Tablescape Workshop.

Hey friend!
In this week's podcast I'm chatting with Amy who wants her home to feel bright and airy, but she has a problem. The dark kitchen cabinets, the black countertop and the black tile floor, along with the black dining table are all keeping her from realizing her goals. But with no room in the budget to make these BIG foundational changes to her home, Amy is wanting to know her options.
Amy has a couple options:
1. Spend a lot of money she doesn't have replacing everything in the style that she likes it now (not a feasible option).
2. Do nothing and continue hating her home and the way it looks, waiting and wishing for the day when the funds are available for option 1.
3. Learn which changes she can make to lighten up her space, using what she currently has and bringing in supporting items to lighten her open concept home WHILE making it look cohesive.
Option 3 may sound too good to be true, but the truth is we often times only see option 1 and option 2 as likely possibilities. When you work within your own understanding of a skill, sometimes you don't see the third option.
Decorating SOS Coaching Calls are meant to help you see the third option. They're designed to help you get unstuck in what ever is keeping you from reaching your home goals.
What did Amy learn? She actually has a really great start at having a light and airy home. There's no need to paint anything. And the black table that she though was a bully - the recommendation was to actually keep it as is, but to change up other things in the room.
You'll hear my strategy for combatting darkness, how furniture carries a visual weight with it and how strategic layers will not only make her space feel lighter and brighter, but more cozy too. And all of those suggested changes will help her bully of a kitchen feel more cohesive with the rest of her home.
If you'd like help creating a plan for your home, go to https://figandfarmathome.com/decorating-sos to book a call. Transformation is waiting on the other side of that conversation.

Hey friend!
As we continue this mini series: Get your home holiday ready, it's important that we don't forget to get ready to take care of the people we're inviting into our space. Hosting is a natural gifting - those who do it well, WOW do they do it well. For others, it's a learned skill. But like decorating, hosting can be taught.
Preparing your space adequately for guests and their comfort is important in both the BIG ways as well as the small details.
In today's episode I'm sharing 4 tips to host well and with one of the tips, I admittedly get very vulnerable as I share a bit of personal experience. In a nutshell, the four things that will help you be a better hostess are:
1. Think of your own comfort! This sounds counter intuitive when we're learning tips about hosting others, but before we can do that I want you be mindful of experiences YOU have had where you were the recipient of great hosting and experiences when the hosting rather sucked. Write those down - the details of what made those experiences stand out for you. You'll use those details to help prepare for the guests in your home.
2. Think of guests needs beforehand! Thinking big picture about any accommodations they might need to make their stay a bit more comfortable before they arrive will help your time together go smoothly.
3. Pay attention to the SMALL details! Things like extra blankets, a fan, lighting to the bathroom in the middle of the night, cozy socks, even Kleenex and access to extra toiletries will help you guest feel like you've though of every last detail.
4. Be observant in the moment! Catching little things like an empty coffee cup or a glance around the room wondering where to place a bag - these observations and acting upon them will give you a gold star as a hostess.

Hi friend!
Have you ever took a look around your grandmother's home and thought, 'Hmmm...that piece (what ever the piece is) is kind of cool. I wonder how I could make that work in my home? Would it be cool or fall completely flat?'Or maybe you have a hand me down sofa or a dining room credenza that you know are pretty fantastic, but want to learn how to more intentionally style it with your otherwise contemporary design but aren't quite sure how to do it. Or maybe yet, you just love thrifting and fining unique items that no one else has because you didn't find them at Target. You may have even been called eclectic a time or two. If any of these scenarios are YOU, you're in the right place because in today's episode I'm not only sharing the 7 things that make up Grand Millenial Decorating Style, but the secret to pulling it all together. And if that's not enough, I'm throwing in 6 ways you can experiment with a little more GM in your own home.

Hey friend!
We are continuing our 5 part mini-series getting our homes ready for the holidays. If you missed the first two parts of the series, you can listen to them here:
Part 1: Is your home ready for the holidays? Start HERE for stress-free holiday prep
Part 2: Refresh your home for the holidays with these 5 simple, budget friendly tips
In today's episode, I'm taking a cue from my business and working smarter not harder in order to prep my home for the holidays. Having a clean house is a pivotal part before welcoming guests in, but cleaning can sometimes be a bore and an absolutely chore. So today, I'm sharing how just as I batch work in my business for efficiency, we're taking that strategy to batch clean. Get ready to get more done in less time.
The rules of batching?
1. Start by writing down all of the chores you do in order to deep clean (remember - guest eyes only areas). Ex) dust baseboards, wash windows, pick lint out of edges of carpet :), dust flat surfaces, deep clean the toilets
2. Then, instead of going room to room to complete one room at a time, try cleaning in like-categories. Cleaning the toilets, for example, require a different set of tools or supplies than dusting.
3. Start by cleaning one like-category at a time. In this example, toilets. Gather all the tools and supplies you need to deep clean the toilets and do ALL the toilets before moving on to the next like-category (ie. window/glass surface cleaning)
After all areas have been deep cleaned, use this same strategy to tidy clean the week of your holiday before the guest's arrival.
