We break down how cultivating mindfulness, more time for self-care, and establishing boundaries can all contribute to our happiness.
Tamara also has extensive experience working in the professional caregiving space which gave me the opportunity to ask her some of those questions caregivers are longing to ask the professional caregivers in their own loved ones' lives.

When you hear "have joy" in the context of caregiving With the overwhelming, often sorrowful experiences of caring for a loved one, it can be difficult to imagine joy in the midst of it all.
In this episode, I speak with Sondra Harper, an author, artist, and yogi. Her passion for empowering women shines through in her teachings of Vishoka, a method fostering sorrowless joy.
This was an eye-opening interview that gave me a deeper understanding of how meditation, breathwork, and mindfulness can bring us closer to experiencing joy, without sorrow, even when life brings us pain.

This interview changed my life. I am still in awe of my encounter with Kathleen Donnelly Israel, a caregiver, spiritual seeker, healer, and pilgrim on the Camino Santiago.
Her caregiving journey led her to her deep study, knowledge of spiritual healing practices, and her quest to walk the Camino, sharing her story and holding space for others to share theirs.
My time speaking with her was enlightening, encouraging, and healing and I know it will be for you too!
If you are uncertain of who you are outside of caregiving or wondering what life beyond caregiving could be (and perhaps feel guilty about thinking of that), I invite you to listen to this interview with Kathleen.
And then buy her book Wisdom on the Camino; I am reading it now, and it is like walking with her!

My guest, Rebecca Sugar, became the family caregiver for her ailing father, as well as her elderly family friend and childhood nanny as she neared the end of her life.
Rebecca learned how to be a family caregiver on the job, taking responsibility for her elderly father through multiple spinal cord surgeries at the age of 79. It was an emotional rollercoaster, and she hopes that her personal experience and insight with a spiritual undertone will resonate with those who can relate.

Meet fellow caregiver (and now my friend!) SARAH CART! When she and her husband, Ben, became empty nesters, the two moved to the Florida Keys, but they returned every summer to the Pennsylvania Poconos, where each had lifelong family connections. Then came COVID-19. The pandemic, combined with Ben’s health issues, necessitated their sheltering in place in Florida for the entirety of 2020. In the wake of Ben’s undergoing miraculous lifesaving measures, they have been afforded the unanticipated gift of a future and, more than ever before, relish time spent with family and friends.
In our interview, Sarah shares shares honestly, openly and willingly about her experiences and triumphs as a caregiver and wife to her beloved husband.
We also talk about her new book, "On My Way Back to You."

Self-awareness and connectedness with self is key for creating sustainable self-care practices, but what if you've been turning down your intuitive voice for so long that you cannot hear it?
What if when you do connect with your inner feelings, you feel re-traumatized or depressed, or even scared?
Today's guest, Angela Turke, LMHC, CRC joins us again on the podcast to talk about why therapy might be an appropriate self-care choice for some overwhelmed caregivers.
*please note: I am not a therapist, just a person sharing my personal and life-long journey as a caregiver, self-care coach and advocate for caregivers, especially those in recovery. I share my experience and insights in hopes they will inspire other caregivers to give themselves the same compassionate care they give their loved ones. While Angela Turk is a liscenced mental health counselor, our discusssion is not meant to be a replacement for therapy.
If you or someone you know is struggling or in crisis, help is available.

The first step to taking better care of yourself is learning to listen to yourself.
It sounds simple, but it can be difficult for people, like us, who are used to listening to what everyone else needs. It's easier to turn down what our bodies and minds are telling us because we don't have the time or energy to "deal" with all of our needs too.
So how can we learn to listen to ourselves again? In this week's episode, we talk about self-awareness, intuition, and why it matters for sustainable self-care.

What if I told you to stop putting on your oxygen mask FIRST. Instead, I want you to put it on PERIOD.
Yes, it is true that we should take care of ourselves so that we can take care of others, we can’t pour from an empty cup…but...
If the only reason we are caring for ourselves is so that we can care for others, then what are we really saying? What is the implication there? That if we had no one else to care for, our care would not be valid?
In today’s episode, we dive deep into the powerful notion that caregivers not only need to take care of themselves to better care for others but because they are worthy of love, care, and attention as individuals.
