  • For over 30 years, Simon Rinne survived mental illness. Undiagnosed Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Depression, and Anxiety saw him turn from happy-go-lucky kid to dependent on alcohol to feel "normal". A parental break-up saw him become "the man of the house" - and this is where things turned dark.

Social norms that tell boys and men to "suck it up" kept me quiet... and in that quiet, Simon’s mind turned to suicidal thoughts.

But he survived and after 20 years of suffering in silence, he finally reached out for help in 2012. Simon was diagnosed, and started seeing a therapist. However, Simon expected the therapist to wave a magic wand and cure him. That didn't happen, so Simon kept doing what he was doing.

It wasn't until Simon became a dad that he started to reflect on how he was showing up. 1 year later, he burned out. This is where Simon discovered mindfulness, and started to turn from survivor to thriver.

Simon is now 40 years old, sober, and using his pain to fuel his passion - talking about mental health! Not only does he love to talk about it, but he designed his therapy business around making therapy easy for men who really struggle to open up.

Simon has also completed a Masters Degree in Social Work and established Mindful Men - a therapy business and global movement encouraging men to men to adopt mindful living, combat the stigma around mental health, and lower alarming rates of domestic violence and suicide.

  • Leigh McDonald, has been a resident of Gippsland for most of his life and is widely recognised as one of the best local football players the area has ever seen. He has achieved great success as a player and coach, leading Churchill to a premiership and coaching Wonthaggi. Football has also taken Leigh across the country playing in 3 different state leagues.

However, Leigh's passion for the game has come at a cost. Over a span of 20 years, he endured more than 40 concussions, including a severe incident in the VFL where he was knocked unconscious and suffered a brain bleed. These repeated head injuries have led to Leigh being diagnosed with CTE, or chronic traumatic encephalopathy.

Despite the challenges he faces, Leigh has chosen to use his experience to raise awareness about CTE. Leigh is also on a mission to help implement concussion protocols in regional leagues and has embarked on a campaign to educate others of the signs to lookout for with your loved ones after receiving head trauma.

Leigh will be running a marathon on the Gold Coast to raise funds for The Concussion Legacy Foundation, where he also serves on the board. Leigh's determination to show that it is possible to lead a fulfilling life with CTE is truly inspiring.

  • I went on a cruise ship around 40 years ago and hated it. Everybody on board had gastro, the flu, or sea sickness. I had the latter and needed an injection to ease the vomiting and nausea. But, it doesn’t end there or end well. I had an allergic reaction to the vaccine and blew up in huge red welts all over my body. I was not interested in sunning myself on the deck, or gracing the beaches of the pacific islands. Instead, I waited patiently to dock at each new port, and armed with a video recorder the size of a TV news camera, I ran solo to explore the undiscovered distant region of the island while fancying myself as a roving reporter.

I vowed never to sail the high sea again.

Fast forward to 2023, my partner says “I booked us on a family cruise”. My worst nightmare come true! However, I decided to put all my past negative grumblings behind me and give it a go. Have I changed my mind? You’ll have to take a listen…

  • A graduate of Boston College, Burke started out in television as a production Assistant while working other odd jobs, from bar bouncer, golf caddy to factory assemblyman, to sustain the meager TV industry income.

His height and physical build came in handy, scoring him a gig loading grip trucks for Powerhouse Films, which further exposed him to commercials and films in and around the New England area. He soon became the ‘go to’ guy of Production Assistants in Boston, working every motion picture produced in Massachusetts.

After a move to Los Angeles in 1990, Burke quickly moved up the production ranks, working as First Assistant Director on an independent film with Johnny Depp. Nicknamed “the Irish Bull” by his west coast colleagues, Burke went on to secure Assistant Director credits including, Jerry Bruckheimer’s acclaimed TV series Skin, Close to Home, CSI Miami, and the pilot for Desperate Housewives. He spent his last five years on Chicago PD.

In 2003, Burke was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Three years of doctor visits, nine operations and chemotherapy treatments were all included in part of his rigorous 14-hour shoot day routine. To no surprise, given his well known tenacity, Burke conquered the disease into remission mostly by himself.

The experience empowered him to take inventory of his life, specifically his trade, leading him to approach his career from an alternative perspective that was better aligned with his personal values. Best known in the industry for his talent, perseverance and respectful collaboration with colleagues on all levels.

  • For way too long, toxic masculinity has run rife. Men have been taught to be tough, not to cry, don’t show emotions and all the other damaging rhetoric. They’ve also been subjected to abuse and put downs for showing signs of kindness and warmth. This has to stop. The four men I talk about in this episode are indeed putting a stop to the harmful narrative that causes many men to self-loath and in some cases, take their own life. Mark MacManus, Matt Ferguson, Leigh McDonald and Steven Baker aren’t afraid to cry, and are actively sharing their stories in an effort to support men and others to ask for help and believe in themselves. Essentially they want people to know they are ok just the way they are.

  • Tiffanee Cook is a boxer, trainer, epigenetics coach, speaker and host of the podcast ‘Roll With The Punches’, who uncovered her childhood trauma when she stepped into the boxing ring at 29.

“Everyone has a plan, until they get punched in the face”

Tiffanee has learned this as a business woman, performance coach and boxer; from the comfort, predictability and safety provided by the corporate world, to the lessons and let-downs in and out of the boxing ring. Coming to the realisation that, in order to have one’s hand raised in triumph, adversity, discomfort and combat must be navigated. In the face of the messiness of life, do we fight or do we flee?

Fuelled by the unexpected. Tiff's exposure to the corporate boxing experience opened her eyes to the connection between our physical, mental and spiritual selves.  It lifted the lid on a world full of opportunities far beyond the one in which she once lived and it paved a path to growth, success, health and above all happiness.

Tiff is also the inspiration behind the latest album from Australian rock legend, Mark Seymour and has been honoured with a song dedicated to her.

  • Emotional Intelligence can be quite an elusive thing. We all think we have it, many don’t, and some excel at it. But what does it really mean? In this episode I discuss how we all have emotions, they are all positive even thought they don’t always feel that way, and that we always have a choice about how we respond.  I talk about how suppressing emotions can make you sick and you will always have leakage, often at the most inconvenient time, and how reacting can create very damaging outcomes. There are 6 questions for you to answer if you feel like digging a little deeper. This episode is not a comprehensive look at emotional intelligence, more so a brief snapshot to inspire more exploration.

  • Brock Williams is a 4th year chiropractic student who left his home town of Rosedale to pursue his career. But with his heart still back in Rosedale, and a mate with cancer requiring ongoing care, Brock decided to take on a challenge to show his support to his mate Xavier.

His big audacious goal was to run 1,000 kilometres from Adelaide to Rosedale and raise money and awareness for children’s cancer, and specifically for the Sony Foundation Australia.

Brock raised $45,000 which is estimated to help up to 300 families with away from home accommodation while supporting their loved one in hospital.

While crossing the finish line in his beloved home town was as grand as a king’s homecoming, the challenges he faced along the way were not so wonderful. Multiple physical injuries and unkind weather conditions, also left Brock also battling the mental demons until he finally overcome all that was thrown at him and glided through the final few days

Brock’s ultimate message to anybody who’ll listen, is that he’s just an ordinary guy who found something bigger than himself to care about, and with meaning and purpose, we can do anything.

  • Up until 2003, I was a lazy Buddhist and a Trauma/ ICU/ ER Nurse who inconsistently meditated, read the occasional self help book, and was too overworked to recognize or remember my gifts.

I was a single Mom, exhausted, and not seeking anything remotely resembling the metaphysical except maybe a good night's sleep with a prophetic dream.

Abruptly, on a random Tuesday, everything changed.

In October 2003 I found out my closest friend at work was murdering people. This was a true friend I confided in, shared secrets with, and trusted with my life. I adored him.

After I helped the Detectives from the New Jersey Prosecution put him behind bars, I set out on a magical path to answer my scariest question:

How the hell could I love someone so dark?

The journey down the Rabbit Hole to that answer brought me face-to-face with spiritual gurus, energy healers, visionaries, and real-life, spontaneously awakened, modern day Buddhas.

I read book after book and took every workshop I could find. I had set out to heal myself and in that process, I had many Spiritually Transformative Events. I also was shown my own gifts, my own team of Spirit Guides, and surprising intuitive abilities which I effortlessly access every. single. moment. of. every. day.

I now have created a life filled with abundance, exotic travels, and beautiful relationships. My amazingly full and adventurous life was created through a deep understanding of this Matrix we live in.

I DID receive and answer to my question, and it was surprisingly beautiful and simple.

The answer appeared loudly during an energy healing session.

“Without being inspired by the intense darkness, I would not have been open to receiving all that this physical/spiritual Realm had to offer me.”

‘The darkness in him was also in me and it was leading me to the light within this world.’

I am now a Reiki Master, a Hypnotherapist, NLP Practitioner, Meditation Instructor, DreamSculptor Practitioner, Reconnective Healer, Integrative Energy Healer, Past Life Regressionist, Crystal Language Reader, Medical Intuitive, and learned "The Work" from Byron Katie.

Pulling from dozens of different learned modalities and my own special access to the other Realms, I now help others develop a unique Guidance Plan for deeper connections.

  • Time out is critical. It’s way too easy to hustle and grind and think we have to live up to the expectations of other people. Nothing could be further from the truth. You can succeed and achieve amazing things, even if you take the time to rejuvenate and take care of yourself. It’s that old oxygen mask analogy in play here. Put yours on first or you won’t be able to help anybody else.

  • Let’s rethink rats. There are still around 110 million active landmines around the world, and detecting and destroying them is not a cheap or easy process, partly due to the weight and inefficiency of humans. Rats on the other hand, are extremely efficient at detecting landmines and other explosives and are being used around the world to help return land to local communities.

The organisation leading the way with rats is APOPO. Not only can the rats detect TNT, they are also used to detect tuberculosis and are now being trained for search and rescue, to detect people trapped under rubble.

  • Anishinaabe, Music composer, Multi-Musician

Growing up in a musical household, Jaimi was singing before she was talking; and it was only a matter of time before she picked up an instrument of her own. At the age of four, her father brought home a mini keyboard, and she immediately started training her ear and taught herself how to play. When she was 12, Jaimi had asked to learn how to play guitar as well. As she grew older, she taught herself how to play more instruments, and write music.

One late night out, Jaimi was at a concert with one of her friends who was going through a rough time with her partner at the time. Her friend told her that she felt like the villain because her partner kept playing the victim card all the time, and said she was tired of it and SHE wanted to be the victim for once when she ends the relationship. Jaimi thought about it, and said that she didn’t have to settle for being either the villain OR the victim, she could be her own hero. A couple days later, thinking about this conversation, Jaimi sat at her piano and wrote a song for her friend, saying exactly that. Just a few weeks later, her friend ended her relationship with her toxic partner, and is now in a better place.

This experience planted the idea that Jaimi could actually HELP people with her music in her mind, she just couldn’t quite figure out how. She and her husband attended a seminar called The Hero Round Table later that year, which included a workshop tailored towards using your talents to help people. Filling out the worksheet, an idea was formed. Jaimi was always able to write her own music to heal her own heartbreaks and celebrate her triumphs. While her friends had popular songs written by other well known artists they had connected to in their own battles, they couldn’t write their own music. But… What if Jaimi could write songs for them?

Finally, it clicked. This workshop helped form the idea that people could come to Jaimi with their own struggles to get a different perspective, to help them heal their hearts, to help them get closure, through a song tailored specifically to them. Jaimi could take their thoughts, feelings, and any phrases or questions they might have and write them a song.

It’s still new, and Jaimi is still putting everything together so she is able to make this dream into a reality, but steps are being taken every day to make this happen. There is currently a portfolio being put together while Jaimi is learning the software so there can be examples of how she uses her music to help heal the hearts of people who are struggling.

  • As we move into 2024, let’s focus the impact we can make, to humans, animals and the planet. But with flow and not with resistance, always moving our intentions and actions in the right direction.

  • Let’s slow down a little over this holiday break and consider the things and people we have around us to be grateful for. It’s a stressful time and people do and say some pretty ordinary things due to these conditions. We don’t have to push and shove and place huge expectations on each other. We can choose to slow down, reflect, and extend love and compassion to ourselves and those around us.
