Richard Comte is an officer with the Winnipeg Police Service who initially began working for the force in 2002. In 2015, he found himself in quite a mess which he created all on his own. He and officer Andrew Tighe -Yes the same Andrew Tighe who was caught drunk driving- were responsible for investigating a sexual assault that had occurred at the Green Brier Inn which occurred in October of that same year. Richardâs unethical, threatening, problematic and questionable attempts at obtaining video surveillance footage would later come under fire, and he would be the subject of a LERA (Law Enforcement Review Agency) investigation and lawsuit filed by Jonathan Singh, owner of the Green Brier Inn. In this episode we discuss the details of the incident leading up to legal action taken as well as Richardâs general messiness behind the scenes throughout the process.

Josiah Henson is held in high regard in both Black Canadian and American history, despite being somewhat of a sellout. Born into enslavement in America, he was known on the plantation as a hard worker, and trustworthy. For this reason, he was able to work both on and off the property. He would often leave by himself, and for a long time made no attempt to run away. At one point, he even bartered his freedom with his enslaver, in exchange for helping over a dozen Black folks remain enslaved. During the latter part of his life, it becomes clear that he worked overtime in an attempt to make up for his previous harmful actions. Yet, despite his best efforts, he became the sole inspiration for the Uncle Tom stereotype. In this episode we dive into who Josiah Henson was, his life's work, a bit about the Dawn Settlement, as well the origins of the Uncle Tom stereotype, before rounding out with my thoughts as always.

On April 11th, 2023, Paige Theriault-Fischer, the woman who murdered Hodan Hashi, had all charges stayed. The statement put out by the prosecution's office makes it clear that they have no intentions of reopening the case, or charging Paige with anything. Less than six months after stealing a life, Paige is free and clear; she gets to go on with the rest of her life as if nothing happened, meanwhile the Hashi's lives are permanently altered. I had the privilege of heading from the Hashi family directly, through Hodan's sister Fartun. Her input, and her family's input is included throughout, and there is exclusive information within this episode that has not been shared elsewhere. This is the third update in Hodan's case where everything that has gone on in 2023 is covered in depth. I will continue to post updates as the case progresses. Please make sure to follow the Hashi's on their social platforms, donate and share their go-fund-me, and participate in their email campaign to try and get charges against Paige reinstated.Hashi Family Links:Go-Fund-Me: https://www.gofundme.com/f/justice-for-hodan-hashi-legal-fundInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/justiceforhodanhashi/?hl=enTwitter: https://mobile.twitter.com/justiceforhodanFartun's Twitter: https://twitter.com/sashao__Petition: https://www.change.org/p/national-advocacy-campaign-for-hodan-hashi?original_footer_petition_id=16014181&algorithm=promoted&source_location=petition_footer&grid_position=15&pt=AVBldGl0aW9uANs7GQIAAAAAY5row5EzlGlhNjYwNzlhNA%3D%3DBecome a Patron: https://www.patreon.com/girlyouhaventheard Inquiries: [email protected] Become a Channel Member For Exclusive Perks: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZHUxo1BIezsFxCeGNeysqA/join Tip Me: Paypal.me/JaydaWayda444 Check Out My Blog: https://medium.com/@jayda.hope.biz

Marie Joseph Angelique is hands down one of the most misunderstood women in Canadian history. She was enslaved at a young age in Portugal before being forcibly transported to Montreal. Marie knew that her enslavement was wrong and immoral. She regularly rebelled in every way that she could and would admit to everything she did, without hesitation. She was the living embodiement of rebellion, and white Montrealers despised her for it. When the great Montreal fires of 1734 occurred, everyone was quick to blame Angelique, but she maintained her innocence. No one believed her, and she was tortured until she gave a coerced confession in order to end her suffering.

Viola was an extremely successful business woman who did everything in her power to propel Black women forward during a time period when they were intentionally being left behind. Viola Desmond was one of the many Black women who bravely and actively fought Canadian segregation, in a time where many were denying the fact that it even existed. When she eventually made her way to the Roseland Theatre, one of the many places in Nova Scotia that had unofficial segregation, she sat in the whites only section on the main floor as she was nearsighted. When she was told she needed to go to the balcony and sit with her people, she refused. The police were then called. They violently, and aggressively removed Viola from the theatre, injuring her. She was then jailed, and charged with defrauding the provincial government of Nova Scotia. Viola used this as an opportunity to shed light on the realities of being a Black woman in Nova Scotia, and the regular horrors they were subject to.

In September of 1996, 15-year-old Melanie left her friendâs home at around 2AM to make the 10 minute walk home. While walking home, she vanished without a trace. While public pressure was high, it seemed as if everything was being done to bring closure to her family. Once the public pressure lessened, the Ethier family was left doing the majority of the work themselves, of course with community support. Police ignored countless eyewitness testimonies that could have led them closer to finding Melanie, figuring out what happened to her, or who took her. She has been missing longer than I have been alive, and yet, no one has a solid idea of what happened to her.

Carrie Best grew up in Nova Scotia in a time where racism, segregation, and controlling stereotypes ran the province. Her parents were never given the opportunity to pursue formal education, and so they encouraged all of their children to go after what they wanted, regardless of the obstacles that were placed in their way due to systemic racism. Carrie's business and education prospects were extremely limited to 'women's work', but she refused to be forced into that box, she was a talented writer and storyteller so she pursued that full force. She and her son created The Clarion, Nova Scotia's first Black owned and operated newspaper. Carrie continued to write, host her own radio show, and advocate on behalf of the Black community in anyway that she could.

Thornton and Lucie Blackburn were an enslaved couple who changed both Canadian and American history forever. They met while enslaved, fell in love, got married and managed to escape not once, but twice after finding out their enslaver had plans to permanently separate them. Everything they did was rooted in love and care for themselves, each other, and their Black community. Once they made their way to Toronto, they created the first Taxi company to exist on 'Canadian' soil. They were extremely financially successful, and used all of their success to support the same community which helped them experience freedom. If not for an archaeological dig carried out by Karolyn Smardz-Frost in 1985, we would never know about their contributions to Canadian history, American history, and the establishment of the underground railroad.

Marie Marguerite Rose was enslaved her whole life, but she was enslaved in Canada for two decades. The Loppinot family whom enslaved her, forced her to work as a house slave. She cleaned, she cooked and she took care of their 12 children, all against her will. After 19 years of enslavement, she was set free by her enslaver but the reason why is unknown. In two years of freedom, Marie fell in love, she got married, she rented a home with an Indigenous man -who had also recently been freed from enslavement-, and ran a successful business. At this time, this was a huge deal because women were not allowed to conduct business, AND Marie could not read or write. In two years of freedom, she was able to accomplish far more than she could have ever dreamed. The Canadian government continue to praise and uplift her accomplishments while intentionally ignoring the role that they played in her enslavement, and ultimately her oppression.

In an effort to build up the population in Canada in the late 1700âs, the Canadian government allowed white folks from all over to bring their âpropertyâ into Canada, and do what they pleased with it. This included stolen, enslaved Africans. Chloe Cooley was one of the first recorded women in Canadian history to publicly oppose, and resist her enslaver. The Canadian government acted appalled at Adam Vroomanâs public abuse of his âpropertyâ, and so they were quite literally shamed into ending the practice of enslavement, but they did so in a way that protected the rights of the enslavers and reminded stolen Africans that their lives were meaningless if not owned by a white British loyalist.

Sean Cassidy is a Sargent with the Winnipeg Police Service who has been working with the force for over 20 years. In the past five years, he has been hit with a slue of charges based on three different incidents for crimes from fraud to assault causing serious bodily harm and many in-between. Sean has received virtually no consequences for his actions despite the immense amounts of harm he has caused to the very community he claims to be serving. His actions continue to be justified and he continues to be praised throughout legal processes where he is supposed to be held accountable. All police officers working with the Winnipeg Police Service should be fired, and the force itself should be disarmed, defunded and abolished, but Sean should be one of the first to go. In this podcast episode, we discuss the nature of Seanâs charges, as well as what happened as a result of the charges, and wrap everything up of course, with my final thoughts on the situation.

After the enslavement era ended in Canada, rich white families had no one to tend to their home, raise their children, and take care of all things domestic. This coincided with the second wave of feminism that rocked the country and had white women rebelling against everything domestic, anything that was influenced by patriarchal standards and ideals. The Canadian government, and their wealthy friends realized that they needed to fix this labour gap, and so they turned to the Caribbean islands to meet their demand. They advertised this program as a great opportunity when in reality, it was exploitative in nature. The women who came to Canada through this program were overworked, they were underpaid, subject to all forms of racism, and they were abused in every way imaginable. In this episode we discuss the details of the West Indian Domestic Scheme, the realities these women faced, and how this program has lingering impacts to this day.

On Saturday November 5th, 2022, Black Somali Muslim Canadian woman, Hodan Hashi, was brutally attacked and murdered by Paige Theriault-Fisher in a busy nightclub in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. Despite having clear video evidence proving Paige took Hodan's life, the initial charge of second degree murder was downgraded to manslaughter, and in a place like Saskatoon, the only reason that happened is institutional racism. Paige was let out on $5,000 bail, and her case has been adjudicated until January. She was let out before Hodan's family even had a chance to fly her body back home to Ottawa, let alone lay her to rest. Paige now gets to spend the holiday season with her loved ones, despite robbing Hodan and the Hashi family of that experience for the rest of their lives. This video is a follow up, case update of everything that has gone on since the first video was released in early November. PLEASE make sure to sign, and share the Hashi family's petition, and be sure to follow them on their social media pages. The fight for justice for Hodan is far from over, and they deserve every ounce of support we can offer them.

The Ant Hill Kids is one of the most brutal, gruesome cults of all time. But, because of its Canadian origin, it is one that is rarely ever discussed. Roch Therriault was born and raised in an abusive religious family, he quickly became a product of his environment. Learning how to manipulate those around him, and using religion as a means of doing so. He studied church leaders, and modeled his preaching's after them. He was a charming, charismatic man, who used that to his complete advantage.

On November 29th, 2022, I and many others reported that Daejhanae Jackson had been arrested in the femicide of Shanquella Robinson. This information came from Gerardo Zuniga, a Mexican investigative journalist from MetropoliMX. He was the reporter who leaked the exclusive police report which stated that events had varied a lot from what the autopsy said. Nobody had any reason to doubt him, until authorities on both sides of the border refused to confirm Daejhanae had been arrested, and the website with his article went down less than 12 hours after posting the claim she had been arrested. Now that there is no proof to this report, it made me question what the police report had claimed. In this updated video we discuss the alleged arrest information, revisit what we know while analyzing everything very critically, and debunk some myths and rumours that have been swirling about why the Cabo Cowards attacked Shanquella in the first place.

Canada has had very discriminatory immigration policies, and continues to have them. In 1911, a ban on Black immigration was proposed and approved by the Liberal Party of Canada. The push to pass this law, came from the increase in attacks and murders against Black folks in Oklahoma. They were searching for a new place to live, and saw Canada as an option. The country was pushing for an increase in immigrants to help colonize the west, BUT they did not want Black people. The government of Canada did, and continues to do everything they can to limit, restrict, and prevent Black people from being able to move to Canada in large influxes. In this episode we discuss the previous racist immigration policies, the modern adaptation of these policies, what the government did to halt Black immigration, as well as the lynching of Laura and L.D. Nelson, the event that pushed a lot of Black people to leave Oklahoma to save their lives and more.

On October 28th, 2022 Shanquella Robinson and a group of her six 'friends' (Khalil Cook, Malik Dwyer, Wenter Donovan, Alysse Hyatt, Daejhanae Jackson, and Nazeer Wiggins) left for their weekend Mexican vacation which they had been planning since June. Less than 24 hours after arriving in Cabo, Shanquella's parents back in Charlotte, North Carolina received a call from Khalil that their beloved daughter had passed away due to alcohol poisoning. Her parents did not at all believe this, and yet Mexican and American authorities refused to look further into the case. Shanquella's parents got an autopsy done and it became extremely clear that they daughter had not died due to alcohol poisoning. Her so-called friends had beaten her to death, and then done everything they could to cover it up. #JusticeForShanquella #JusticeForShanquellaRobinson #TrueCrime

The Little Black Sambo is a wildly racist, and problematic children's book written by Helen Bannerman. The book was first published in 1899, and it achieved international levels of success almost immediately. It even recieved an animated film adaptation. It quickly worked its way into Canadian classrooms and libraries, where teachers praised the book for its representation, and it acted as a vessel for implementing racist ideals and imagery into the minds and hearts of non-Black children at an early age. In 1944, Daniel Braithwaite began his quest for Toronto to be the first school division in the world to ban this book from all of it's classrooms and libraries. It took him over 12 years to accomplish this, and yet he never gave up.
