Jay Carter, Golf New Zealand’s National Coach, has seen many New Zealand golfers both succeed and fail in the professional game.
Currently, there are a plethora of Kiwi professionals all plying their trade on the world stage - the likes of Lydia Ko, Ryan Fox, Danny Lee, and, more recently, Daniel Hillier are a few who have come through the Golf New Zealand High Performance programme, and have had a relationship with New Zealand’s National Coach.
We chat to Jay about his coaching journey and the high-performance landscape in Aotearoa. -

Jamie Reid is the world's number #1 speedgolfer who hails from New Plymouth, New Zealand. Jamie has recently returned from the US where he competed in the World Championships, dominating the field and finishing with two gold medals, redeeming himself from an agonising second place in 2018, where he lost by a second. Now, he’s reached the pinnacle of the sport and is pushing Speedgolf to new heights.

He won twice on the DP World Tour, rose over 200 places in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR), and went head-to-head with the current World Number #1 Rory McIlroy at the DP World Tour Championship, and finished second in the DP World Tour Rankings.

He joins Ryan Fox on the DP World Tour next year after spending two years on the Challenge Tour, earning his way onto Europe's main tour by finishing seventh in the Race to Mallorca standings. In 2022, he won his second Challenge Tour event, recorded five other top ten’s, and earned four starts on the DP World Tour and got a taste of what his golfing life will look like next year.
