My guest on the Good Boss Bad Boss Podcast this month is Irial O'Farrell. She wrote the book that gets to the root of SMART objective setting and knows how to help leaders at all levels, take their goals from tick-box to top-notch. It's no surprise that 80% of companies have a formal system in place for managing objectives that cascade down through the organisation. It may surprise you to know that despite that, 66% of senior managers and 84% of frontline employees say they can't name or don’t understand the company goals. It sounds like something that needs to be fixed and Irial is here to help.

Is Ireland really the land of a thousand welcomes? Some years ago I met a very interesting guy called Lucky Khambule is a volunteer co-ordinator for MASI, the Movement of Asylum Seekers in Ireland and campaigns for asylum seekers rights. He seeks to give dignity, control and importantly a voice to the dispossessed that find themselves on this island. In this podcast, Lucky tells his story of seeking asylum in Ireland. It is a story of a life disassembled and power taken away. It is a story of leadership in an unlikely place and the creation of a protest movement that achieved its aims peacefully and with respect. I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I did.

Would you like a boss that wants you to work 4 days a week but still pays you for 5? Yeah! They exist! The 4-day week movement is growing worldwide and one of the pioneers is Andrew Barnes. Andrew brought his company, Perpetual Guardian, through a pilot of the 4-day week and then embedded it as the norm. Productivity improved, employee satisfaction improved and the company increased its contribution to the communities of its employees. What drives a leader to make such a revolutionary leap? In this episode of the Good Boss Bad Boss podcast we get behind the headline and talk to the man. Enjoy!

What is Ireland like to work in if you are unskilled, poorly educated and possibly even homeless? How do bosses treat the minimum wage workers? Are you as horrified as I am to discover that modern-day slavery and indentured servitude exists in modern Ireland? As professionals, as I'm sure most of our listeners are, we often forget the great advantage we gained in our access to education and personal growth in what is by any measure, an affluent society. Rares-Mihai Nicula is the Roma Programme officer with Dublin City Community Cooperative. Rares’ work which is funded through the Department of Justice and Equality, aims to tackle poverty, social exclusion and long-term unemployment for disadvantaged individuals. This is a fascinating conversation that I'm sure you'll enjoy.
