This week we continue our journey through the Book of Nephi! Chapters 3 & 4 find Nephi and his scumbag brothers (who God has appointed him to rule over because they are bad and he is so, so good) on a quest to obtain the sacred plates of brass on which is inscribed the history and genealogy of the Jewish people. However, the wealthy and powerful Laban isnât exactly eager to give them up, and let me tell you, holy hijinks are bound to ensue⊠Join us on a magical journey as we slowly but surely convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints!

This week weâre taking a momentary break from the Book of Mormon to grouse about the avalanche of executive orders from our new old president. We didnât even come close to covering all of them, but we did drill down on a few of Samâs favorites. Itâs wild out there, and itâs hard to say what could happen over the next few years. Buckle up, folks. This pleasure cruise is starting to feel more and more like the boat ride from Willy WonkaâŠ

This week we continue our trek through the Book of Mormon! We got to thinking after last weekâs episode that we probably shouldâve just started at the beginning. Weâve never read it, so weâre all going to learn and grow together⊠So come, just as you are, and join us on this spiritual journey through the first Book of Nephi!

This week weâre finally doing it: weâre beginning our in-depth study of the Book of Mormon! For those of you following along in your own unBible, weâll be in Alma Chapters 17 & 18. Weâll be discussing the inspiring story of Ammon, a Nephite (the good guys) missionary intent on sharing the good news of the yet unborn Lord Jesus Christ with the Lamanites (naughty, wicked, murder-y fellas) across the Land of Ishmael. Where is the Land of Ishmael you ask? Well our scholarly best guess puts it somewhere in the Kentucky/Illinois/Indiana/Ohio region, and this story supposedly takes place around 90 BC. Unlike many of the stories weâve covered from the Bible, weâve never read these ones. So come explore Joseph Smithâs divine chronical of Midwest pseudo history with us!

This week weâre hanging out and discussing some the holidays, some big personal developments, and the ongoing insanity that is our news cycle. This is a bit of a ârelaxed fitâ episode, but it was fun to catch up after a week off. Enjoy the show and have a happy new year!

This week weâre joined by musician AJ Tartol! AJ plays drums and does backing vocals for SeeYouSpaceCowboy, and is a vocalist for BuriedButStillBreathing. AJ grew up in church and started playing in the worship band at a very early age. However, as he hit his teen years, he started to drift away from Christianity. We had a great time talking to AJ, and canât recommend SeeYouSpaceCowboy enough! You can follow him on Instagram (@ajplaysthedrums), and check out his novella Chasm available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble!

This week weâre excited to welcome back one of our favorite people in the world, Dr. Luke! Luke has a book coming out next month called Shame-Sex Attraction: Survivorsâ Stories of Conversion Therapy, and weâre anxiously awaiting its release. If you havenât caught Luke on the show in the past, heâs a Liberty University graduate that endured âgay conversion therapyâ under LUâs infamous anti-gay(wink) crusader, Dane Emerick. His story is one of many Luke brought together in the upcoming book, and we canât wait to read them. The book drops on January 21, and you can preorder it through bookshop.org, Amazon, and many other book retailers, and follow Luke on Instagram (@lukeslamdunkwilson), X (@wilson_FW), and Bluesky (@lukeslamdunkwilson.bsky.social)!

This week weâre pleased to welcome back writer and host of the Tell Me About Your Father podcast, Matt Phillp! In this episode we cover a broad range of topics like cringe youth group object lessons, the absurd difference between Americaâs self-concept and what it looks like from the outside, the symbolic importance of wheat in film, and the morality and necessity of the Oxford comma. Itâs a fun conversation, and we hope you enjoy it. Follow Matt on Instagram, X, and Bluesky (@mattphillp), and check out Tell Me About Your Father wherever you listen to podcasts!

This week discussion seems to revolve around death⊠Personal loss, remembrance, sentimental attachments, and lastly, a Special Forces operator named John âShrekâ McPhee. Known as âthe Sheriff of Bagdad,â John McPhee served as a Delta Force sniper among other things in Bosnia, Iraq, and Afghanistan, and now he teaches combat training. He came to our attention because heâs been playing the podcast circuit lately, and his gruff, sarcastic, matter-of-fact descriptions of killing are kind of shocking. We take a look at some clips from his recent appearance on the Shawn Ryan Show podcast and discuss the implications and aftereffects of war. Kind of a weird one, this week, but we hope you enjoy it!

This week weâre joined by Jeremiah to discuss the colorful cast of characters being appointed to the highest offices in the land! Itâs traditionally known as a cabinet, but I think this is more of a pantry given the number of rotten potatoes inside (thatâs my joke and you need to cite me if you use it. I will press charges.). As always, if youâd like to get in on the fun, join our Discord server! You can find a link in our Instagram bio.

This week weâre pleased as heck to welcome back activist, documentarian, and internet provocateur Charles McBryde! Since we last spoke, Charles has been working diligently on a documentary about the plight of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (better known as UNRWA). Back in March of this year, the US and several other nations cut funding for the organization after Israel accused 12 UNWRA staffers of taking part in the October 7 Hamas attacks. The organization plays a critical role in caring for around 7 million Palestinians living throughout the region. They provide humanitarian aid, healthcare services, education, job opportunities, etc. to an extremely vulnerable group of people, but the loss of funding has crippled UNRWA. Although several nations have lifted the funding ban, the US will not have the opportunity to change its stance until March of 2025. Charles and his team are working hard to complete their documentary titled âLifeline to Palestineâ in part or in full before that time, and they could use our help! Go to https://ko-fi.com/charlesmcbryde/goal?g=5to donate to the effort, and visit https://linktr.ee/CharlesMcBrydefor links to all of Charlesâ pages, including his Substack: Refuse Dystopia!

This week (and what a week itâs been) we got together to discuss the election, how we got here, and the absurdities of American politics. If you want to pipe in on the discussion you can join our Discord using the link in our Instagram bio.

This week weâre joined by Drew and Grant of Twinnuendo, a 50% gay podcast about two brothers reuniting after 20 years of living worlds apart! Drew is a drag queen living in LA with his husband and dog, while Grant is a former pastor raising 4 kids with his wife in Florida. The two of them reconnected after Grantâs turbulent exit from the church about a year and a half ago, and their show is all about sharing each of their perspectives on their childhood, as well as the fundamentally different worlds in which they currently live. These guys are sharp, witty, and very funny, and we had a great time talking to them. You can follow them on Instagram (@darbylynncartwright; @donttalktogrant; @twinnuendo), find Twinnuendo on the IMHO: The Show youtube channel (www.youtube.com/IMHOTheShow) or wherever you listen to podcasts!

This week, Jeremiah joins us to debrief on Samâs rollercoaster weekend in Las Vegas at the When We Were Young Festival! If you havenât heard of WWWY, take a look at the lineup. Itâs insane. Over the course of a couple days, Sam fell in love with the timeless beauty of the Vegas strip. Join us as he imparts the valuable life lessons he learned during his weekend in that sleezy human terrarium, and have a great week!

This week weâre excited to welcome back musician, former pastor, and our friend, Ben Sooy! We discuss Benâs vision for a less coercive and predatory music industry, some of the struggles facing up-and-coming artists and musicians, his experience playing with Christian rock legends Switchfoot, long nighttime chats with Sam over carcinogens, and the most despicable bird in the animal kingdom. Ben has a phenomenal band called A Place for Owls, and they have a new album dropping in November! For info and links to their socials, visit www.aplaceforowls.com!

This week weâre chatting the accelerated aging cycle of Goodwill stores, the looming disaster that is the presidential election, a Wisconsin pastor with idle hands and a Net Nanny skeleton key, and finally weâre dusting off an old prophesy trick that Iâll bet youâve used yourself in the past. Enjoy the show!
-
This week weâre happy to welcome back author, activist, and Christian thought leader Shane Claiborne! Shane is one of the founding members of The Simple Way, a non-profit serving people in some of the poorest communities in Philadelphia, as well as Red Letter Christians, an organization that promotes a progressive Biblical view on issues such as social justice, nonviolence, and human rights. Our previous episode with Shane focused on the culture of gun violence in America, but he joins us this week to discuss the principles of nonviolence, the triviality and horrific realities of war, dehumanization, and the ways in which American Christianity has perverted a Biblical perspective on conflict. We really appreciate Shaneâs commitment to these principles and the good work that heâs done over the course of his career. For more information and links to his socials, visit www.shaneclaiborne.com!

This week Jeremiah joins us to discuss Phase 1 of The Chosen-Verse, the slightly-ambitious-but-mostly-just-puzzling expansion of the critically acclaimed tv series, The Chosen. We also touch on Samâs visceral hatred for the bands you like and the glee he feels when someone ruins their life, Christian rock gods Skilletâs new song âAll That Matters,â and the controversy surrounding Linkin Parkâs new vocalist, Emily Armstrong. Enjoy, and have a nice week, friends!
-
This week weâre joined by Jeremiah to talk about the presidential debate, a self-important, globetrotting nut named Ryan, and Sam and Jeremiah exchange conversational purple nurples because sometimes when a boy likes you and doesnât know how to show it, he does rude things to you⊠I can only assume thatâs whatâs happening there. It was a fun conversation and we hope you enjoy it!
-
This week we skipped the presidential debate to discuss the clash of two actual titans: Christian hip-hop sensation KJ 52 (itâs important that you pronounce it five-two) and Eminem. For those troglodytes that just arenât plugged into contemporary culture like we are, back at the turn of the century KJ 52 wrote a song called âDear Slimâ which was an open letter to Eminem. It did garner the attention of a couple of music news outlets, but itâs unclear whether Eminem actually heard it. Nowadays, Pastor KJ 52 (thatâs right) uses the incredible story of his speaking truth to power to illustrate how God uses even the most unlikely of people to accomplish big things. I think youâre going to enjoy this storyâŠ
