As the year comes to a close we continue our tradition of re-airing some of our best Where We Live shows from 2021. They include conversations with explorers like NASA Astronaut Kayla Barron who is currently orbiting the earth, deep-sea explorer and Connecticut resident, Dr. Robert Ballard, and underwater ocean photographer Brian Skerry. We also talked to two amazing athletes, Paralympians Matthew Torres of Fairfield and Laura Goodkind. And before we say goodbye to 2021, our show December 31 reminds us to reflect on the winter season; it’s okay to slow down and take time to be gentle with yourself and others, some of what author Katherine May shares in our conversation about “Wintering.”

Faced with a world of increasingly complex legal, industrial, and social systems, it can feel paralyzing to attempt to make any meaningful ecological impact on the world. Hosts Mike Stoess and Nick Donavon break through these monolithic challenges that the world faces, seeking simple, attainable solutions for the average person that focus on backyard issues, rather than global dilemmas. On top of tackling ecological issues, Nick and Mike explore ways to better enjoy the outdoors and take in depth looks at the flora and fauna of the South East U.S. Listeners are invited to join their journey of learning and self improvement as they take steps to get a little closer to the world around us, and maybe even becoming a bit more wild minded.

I'm a 44 year veteran broadcast meteorologist based in Buffalo since 1984, but also having worked previously in Bangor, Wichita, Tampa, and Detroit. I grew up in Hudson County NJ, yet was never indicted by a federal grand jury. I now work mainly as a weather/climate writer for the Buffalo News. On the side, I have been a gag writer for a long time NYC radio personality and was twice recommended by Johnny Carson's Head Writer to be hired onto his staff. I'm proud to say I was PERSONALLY passed over by the Head Writer's boss--Johnny. How many people can say that? Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/don-paul/support
