Welcome to another installment of Harry Potter Theory. Today Iâve got a bunch of news stories that I want to cover which are centered around the upcoming HBO show.
I know thereâs been a lot of news-style videos lately, but Iâll aim to space these out more going forward â I donât want to stray too far from the core focus of this channel: the lore. Let me know if you think this is the right call.
Anyway, itâs no secret that the upcoming series has sparked a lot of conversation â not just about casting or storylines, but also about J.K. Rowlingâs involvement. Today, weâre going to take a closer look at what Rowlingâs role actually is in the new series (including addressing some rumors around her allegedly SUING HBO), how HBO and Warner Bros. are handling the production, and what this all means for the future of the Wizarding World.
Weâll also be taking a look at some exciting updates on the showâs production.

Voldemort was considered the most dangerous Dark wizard of all time, and for a while he was feared by the entire wizarding world- even by those who followed him.
But after his initial downfall at the hands of baby Harry, he was little more than a shadowâweak, powerless, and holding onto life by a thread (well, seven threads).
But eventually, after a brief stint in the forests of Albania..He does come back. He regains his strength, rebuilds his body through dark and ancient magic, regains his followers and..Eventually reclaims his place as the Dark Lord.
So⊠My question is: why didnât anyone finish the job the first time around? Why didnât Dumbledore, the Ministry of Magic, or anyone else track down what was left of Voldemort and destroy him before he had the chance to return?
Could the Second Wizarding War have been avoided altogether?
Letâs take a look.

With the introduction of a MAJOR new element in the upcoming HBO Harry Potter series, thereâs one big question we need to ask: Is it canon?

The name âBellatrix Lestrangeâ would send shivers down the spines of even the bravest of witches and wizards. And this reputation was well-deserved, as her terrifying perspectives and bloodthirsty nature propelled her to commit numerous unthinkable acts over the 46 years that she terrorized the greater Wizarding community.
Widely considered to be one of the most powerful and dangerous witches of her time, Bellatrix is perhaps best known as Voldemortâs âright-handâ woman, occupying a high-up role in the Death Eater hierarchy.
But beyond all of this, there was actually a lot more to Bellatrix than some realize.
Today weâre going to be diving into her history, peeling back the layers of her character and uncovering what may have motivated her to become the woman that she did.

This is everything that came before.
So settle in, brace yourselves, and letâs wind back the clock on Wizarding History.

I recently came across a clip on YouTube where author Brandon Sanderson and his podcast guest Dan Well were discussing Voldemortâs character.
Aaand things got pretty controversial pretty quickly, as shortly after posing the question, âIs he a good character?ââthey both came to the same conclusion: he wasnât.
Naturally my first inclination was to feel ANGER because HOW DARE THEY insult the main antagonist from the series that I love.
But then I began to wonderâŠ.Is he a good character? Or do I just like him because I like the Harry Potter story as a whole?
Is he compelling in his own right? Is he actually interesting?
And..Can a book even be good if a CORE character is bad?
All of this got me really thinking about what makes a good character. Is it depth? Motivation? Backstory? Complexity?
Yes, heâs powerful. Yes, heâs terrifying. But is he relatable? Does he evolve?
So today, I want to dig deeper into whether or not Voldemort is actually a well-written character, or if heâs just been heavily propped up by the strength of the narrative around him.

Given that I have a Harry Potter YouTube channel, you might not be too surprised to hear that most of my recommended content on YouTube is..*SHOCKER* Harry Potter related.
But every so often, I see something in the same realm, but just a little bit different..which in this case was a video of Jordan Peterson analyzing the series.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYedNVMB2YQ 0:50-1:20
Now, itâs not often that mainstream figures discuss Harry Potter. Itâs 2025 and nearly 3 decades have passed since the first book came out. So naturally, I was curious- and I decided to see what he was talking about.
But what exactly is the connection between Jordan Peterson and the Wizarding World? And why does he seem to think itâs so important? Is it possible that heâs just bending the Harry Potter story to his philosophical will? Or are there elements to the story that perhaps many of us have never considered.
Today Iâm going to be breaking it down, clip by clip, and seeing if I can make some sense of it all. Donât worry, none of this is political- weâre strictly staying on the topic of Harry Potter.

Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today weâre discussing Ghost Plots.
You might not be too surprised to hear that Rowling, who wrote the 7 Harry Potter books in a 10 year timespan, generated a fair bit of information (storylines, plots, characters) that simply never made it in to the final versions of the beloved books. And in time, these secondary pieces of information have come to be known as âGhost Plotsâ.

Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today weâre going to be taking a look at aspects of the Harry Potter universe that everyone seems to rememberâŠThe wrong way. And partly to blame for all of this is the fact that the Harry Potter books were adapted to film.
The short answer for WHY all of this happened is that in transforming the beloved book series into movies, a lot of liberties were taken.
Characters personalities were changedScenes that NEVER occurred were addedCharacter roles were switchedAnd in many cases, aspects of the books were outright omittedBut now that so many years have passed, a lot of these movie misconceptions have become so ingrained that they've completely overwritten how we remember the original Harry Potter books. How you perceive this video will depend entirely on how you engaged with the series. For some, the films were too frustrating to finish â filled with inaccuracies that clashed with the books- and by going down this path their memory of the books (and more importantly, accurate information) remained intact.
But for many others, the books and movies have blended together into one seamless version of the story. Harry Potter as a whole became an amalgamation of both book and film â with the lines between them increasingly blurred.
And in many instances these changes became so pervasive that they overwrote how nearly everyone remembered the source material.
After youâve watched the video, let me know how many of these things YOU remembered the wrong way. Be honest.

When weâre first exposed to the Harry Potter story, Gryffindor are introduced as the âgoodâ guys. They canât do any wrong, can they?
Slytherin Bad. Gryffindor good.
But, itâs not really that simple, is it?
Because when you actually look past the golden glow of Gryffindor House â past the roaring lion mascot, the impressive Quidditch performances, and the constant rule-breaking that somehow always gets rewarded 100 house points at the end of the year â what you start to see is a culture thatâs not exactly representative of moral superiority or emotional maturity.

Albus Dumbledore is widely regarded as the most powerful wizard of his time. Some may say Voldemort, or even Grindelwald, but in my opinion- Dumbledore had something special that the others didn't.
He was truly one of a kind.
Or...Was he?
My question today is: was Dumbledore as special as we make him out to be? Does he deserve to be pedestalized to the extent that he is? Or is it possible that someone else could reach- or even surpass- his level of power?
Surely SOMEONE has the potential to match him, right? And if so..Who?

Boggarts, as we understand them, are essentially the manifestation of our deepest darkest fears. Amortal shape-shifting non-beings that transform themselves in to whatever it is that we fear most.
No one knows what their true form looks like (except maybe Mad-Eye Moody), no one knows where they come from, and no one knows..WHY they exist.
So today, we're going to be busting these questions wide open: exploring WHAT they are, WHERE they come from, and why they're one of the most terrifying creatures in all of Harry Potter lore.

Today weâre going to be discussing James Potter..And why I think he was actually kind ofâŠawful. Now, before you rush to the comments, hear me out. I know James is Harryâs father. I know he fought Voldemort. And I know he eventually became a good person who died protecting his family.
But if we take a closer look at who James was during his years at Hogwarts, the picture we get is a lot less flattering.

Quick video for you today on the most recent update from HBO which includes their finalized casting decisions for a number of the main actors in season 1 of the Harry Potter TV show, which will be an adaptation of the Philosopher's Stone.
Many of these names have been thrown around over the past few months, but few had actually been confirmed.
And interestingly, there are a few names and characters here that slipped through the cracks entirely. In total there are 6 names. I'll start with the ones that I didn't know about up until the announcement, then go into the others.

Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. I made a video a couple of weeks ago discussing the recent casting for Severus Snape in the upcoming Harry Potter HBO series..And let's just say there were some strong opinions...
In fact, that video got over THREE THOUSAND COMMENTS- and the basic gist of the conversation was this: people really care about who plays Snape- and rightly so.

As far as works of fiction go, the Harry Potter books are pretty mild.
Sure, the books do get a LITTLE bit darker as the story goes on..But youâd never go so far as to deem it SATANIC or something..Right?
Well, as it happens, many people DO think this way (I know, nuts), and ever since the first book hit the shelves in the late â90s, there have been waves of controversies surrounding the seriesâincluding some truly outrageous claims⊠Like Harry Potter being somehow synonymous with devil worship.
And thatâs just one of these flagrant claims.
One asserts that the Harry Potter books act as an âopen doorway that will put untold millions of kids into hellâ
Another claims that that the books are âworse than rat poison mixed with orange sodaâ
And one religious figure even made the bold proclamation that: "Behind Harry Potter hides the signature of the king of the darkness, the devil.â
These are REAL quotes.
But..Now the question is: Are these assertions substantiated in ANY WAY?
Today, weâre going to be tackling this topic head-onâunpacking why so many people believed Harry Potter served as a gateway to hell, what unfolded in the wake of these controversies, and why, despite all the backlash, the series not only survivedâŠBut became a global phenomenon.
Letâs dive in to it.

I've done a lot of spell videos. The most powerful, the most dangerous, the hardest to cast, but one I've always wanted to make involves taking a look at the most... Messed up.
Not the deadliest. Not the flashiest. But the kind of spell that makes you question why someone would even invent it in the first place.
Fortunately I've gone down the spell rabbit hole pretty deep- I've even made an entire video covering every single spell in the Wizarding World. So I've got a pretty solid grasp on the full spellbook.
Which is why today, we're shining a light on the most messed up, demented spells the Wizarding World has to offerïżœspells that exist to inflict pain, humiliation, and sometimes just pure, senseless suffering.
Instead of focusing on the obvious ones, my goal for this video will be to dig deeper into the cruel, obscure, and morally bankrupt curses, hexes, and jinxes that most of you probably haven't even heard of.
But before we get stuck in, I do want to highlight one consideration: Sometimes, it's not about what the spell is inherentlyïżœit's about how it's used. Something that seems harmless on the outsideïżœlike a spell used to mend a broken teacup can quickly become a tool of torment in the wrong hands.
Anyway..
Let's dive into it.
